Tigers Assign Daniel Hansen To Denmark

The Tigers have sent down young 17 year old import Daniel Hansen back to Denmark.
With the young depth on the back-end their was just no room for him this season.

So, Cole Sanford and Kenny Cameron are the ones who will be sent packing?

That is what I am thinking. But I thought we were only allowed 23 guys on the team? Are we not still at too many?

A minimum of 2 more cuts have to be made, as you are allowed to have 25 on a roster.

Like this move. I still think we will cut a dman, probably a forward and of course, a goalie. Gives us mobility later on.

Staples, Sanford and Cameron for sure and I still think Theraiu

Agreed

Gogalev train all aboard!

The roster has to be down to 25 I think.

Theriau isn't going anywhere, in fact he may be the captain of this team. As for Gogalev overagers don't normally carry a heavy price when traded but if he was moved to a team wihin the division I think the price would be higher than normal.

longtimefan said...

So much for Gogalev, traded to Victoria today.

Tigers missed out, Theriau is a decent player but he is the odd man out injury prone and average all around the fact is the tigers cant have two 17 year olds sitting outside not getting any playing time (who would you rotate them in with) and then have then come in next year being in the 3-6 spot and with under 40 games experience, it isnt a very smart move from a General Manager stand point so you know they are looking the question is who do they go after now my best guess is a forward from Kamloops or Tri-City

The main goal for the Tigers is to build a consist team year in and out there is no way they risk losing 2 Dman maybe even 3 next year and throw the others into the fire its looking like it will be Hunker and Stanton and playing time is essential for development

I really do not think we need a forward. I think we have a nice line-up on forward. I do not see them acquiring another guy up there. I really think one other dman will be sent down. Too bad as they will be pulled up to play as an 18 year old or just skipped over. I would agree, I would be happy to see Theriau sent to another team as I did not think he was that good. Becker seems to be stepping in as a leader on defence. I hope we look to make room for another 17 year old Dman. If you are going to rebuild, you might as well go all the way. Plus, in this case, I think we have enough talent to do it. Theriau would be picked up by another team no problem, he is a good player, I just think the Tigers need to do what is best for them and their development. Sadly, it is a business and tough decisions like that need to be made.

Its not even rebuilding its about constantly developing a team look at the hurricanes rebels hitmen they would stack and stack for one run and they would fall on their faces and then be at the bottom of the division for years you gotta do what Portland, Kelowna and especially Vancouver do which is have you studs but also have the development going on as well

Becker was one of those 17 year olds last year who didn't get any playing time due to roster depth. With only 11 games played for the Tigers last regular season, it is great to see how he has stepped up in spite of it.

You contradict yourself in your post about Theriau. First you say he was not that good. Then you say he would be picked up by another team, because he is a good player. Theriau will more than be ready to shutdown 1st line Dub players as he has in the past. Becker although showing big improvement , and good on him. Does not have any experience shutting down players on the top two lines. Busenius has had little exposure either with top 6 forwards.
In my opinion it will be Busenius who may become expendable. And if not him, than Ryckman. He has been acquired to fill a role I'm sure. Until Theriau comes back.

Anonymous said...

Ryckman is a better version of Theriau, hes not there to fill the role till Theriau comes back he is a far far better player and with Becker we got lucky he has a very high hockey IQ and learns very well you cant keep doing that though its just not a smart business news

I don't think another forward would be a good idea.

This team is not built for this year.(Although its possible they make a good run at the end of the year).

If Shinkaruk and Valk come back next season, the entire scoring core will be back and they will be a favorite to lead the league in offense.

Might as well keep that group together and save your assets as of right now offense isn't a perceived weakness. Plus their are a bunch of good young talent that could use the ice-time.

Guys like Hunker and Stanton will still get lots of playing time. With Theriau out I could see the odd scratch to Spenser Jensen too.

When Theriau comes back, by then they will have a much better evaluation on all the defenceman.

Like how Busenius fits in to next years overagers, how far along is jensen on the depth charts, compared to the new guys, how far along the new D-men are.

It gives them good mobility. Plus how valuable is a first line Dman at the trade deadline.......Bus may be able to fetch a first rounder if the Tigers choose to go that route.

at the trade deadline.

Tiger Turf I agree with your 1st pairing value about trade deadline. But, it's highl unlikely that Busenius retrieves a 1st round player in a trade. At most, he would retrieve a 3rd round pick. Realistically a 5 th rounder. He hasn't shown enough confidence to play in the top 2 pairings. His plus minus last year as a third pairing guy, doesn't exactly command a big net return. And he was an 18 year old then. He would need to shown a steady reliability, and poise back there to warrant another team giving up so much. Now, if we were to package a deal with him included. That might yield a higher return in future draft picks. Bus is a good kid, players love him.

longtimefan said...

Busenius isn't the type of player that would bring back a first round pick to the team if dealt. I think people need to relax and let the first 10-15 games play out before making decisions on what is or isn't needed. It's going to tske at least that long to find out whether or not the young guys can succeed at this level. Anyone know if Stanton is hurt? he didn't play in any of the last three exhibition games.

I like our team now but would not mind an older Dmsn trade to allow for the young guys to plsy. We always have a competitive team and I think we still would if we allowed a young guy to take the place of an older guy on D. So far I feel that Becker has outplayed Busniesus and although you have to wait to see how the season goes, I would have expected Busniesus to stand out more if he was going to be a top Dman in this league. I think he is good but I think the Tigers situation may allow them to play a younger guy with comparable talent.

Anonymous said...

I like that call on moving Bus at the trade deadline i was thinking our overage situation next year and couldnt see us parting with Doty, Bredo or Valk and Bus defiantly has not improved his game so far

Anonymous said...

The tigers rely on the older guys to step you and play! The younger guys arent given much confidence with only given minimal playing time. Busenius is one of those guys. He's been here for three years and gives the team the experience going into his fourth season. The last three years he has usually been on the third line for d pairs which means he's playing with the third or fourth line forwards. And over the last two years that hasn't helped the kid! He has an amazing shot from the point so we need to give home that and watch him use it! I enjoyed seeing him being physical at the home game against lethbridge and also jumping up into the play!!!

We need to give him a chance and see what happens!!!

Stanton dislocated his shoulder. He's suppose to be back in a week or two.

Anonymous said...

We are simply saying it as we see it and thats huge to lose Stanton but Hunker can fill in the role pretty well

Anonymous said...

I am a fan of Hunker, I hope he takes this opportunity and runs with it. He is a great Dman. I am really pulling for him to stay. Really liked him in his pre-season games. I think he has potential!

longtimefan said...

Busenius didn't get top line minutes because he wasn't up to the task of playing against the other teams top players every shift. He will get that chance starting this year but for me personally he doesn't have the tools to do it but I guess we will see. My guess is they went out and got Rykman for two reasons, one Theriau won't play for a while and two, they not sure they had a guy that was capable of being a shut down guy.

Anonymous said...

It seems silly that we would keep both Theriau and Bus when we just got Ryckman. I wonder if there is not going to be movement mid-season or deadline time. Allows for the young guys to improve a bit.

Who ever stays and who ever goes, I like this team so far. A tweak or whatever here and there will be fine. I like the general outlook of this team tho. I also look forward to what it will look like in a year or two!

It's not silly, considering how they and most junior teams manage their rosters. For the past several years, the players value to the team and coresponding playing time with this organization has always been given to older players, with the exception of a handful of elite young players such as Shinkaruk.

The Tigers depth chart will once again be based primarily on age, and now with 9 defencemen, Hunker will be kept around until Stanton is recovered. The Tigers will keep 8 defencemen this season due to the uncertainty of Theriau's injury and the two-three 17 year olds/rookies will be on a healthy scratch rotation, barring injuries.

This is how this team has run for many years, and no change should be expected gang.

Anonymous said...

Hunker will play over Staples

Anonymous said...

Do you think 8 Dmen will be kept all season or will they go down to 7 when Theriau returns?

Anonymous said...

eventually 7 when Theriau or Bus is traded

TigerTurf said...

They may keep 8 all year. Depends on injuries and how the roster plays out.

Anonymous said...

Hunker is gone! The updated roster is on the tigers website..The breakdown sees the team currently carrying 3 goalies, 8 defenseman and 15 forwards.

Of note is 20-year-old defenseman Alex Theriau, who is on the roster but currently recovering at home from offseason hip surgery.

TigerTurf: Who do you see us keeping as goaltenders?

TigerTurf said...

I haven't seen them enough to make a decent judgement.

Last year I made some god aweful predictions on who I thought would stay after only seeing guys play for one intrasquad game....trying hard not to do that again..

I do think that the 2nd goalie coming into this season was Kenny Cameron's to lose....but Dawson MacAuley is showing us that he doesn't want to get sent down this year.

Stan said...

Tigers will run with 8 dmen,

On the goalie front I'd like to see them go with Langhamer and McAuley...two 18 year olds who could compete for minutes. With Cameron, they know he's not going to be back as a 20 year old spot next season, so what it comes down to is if they think MacAuley's development will be better served playing behind and potentially competiting with Langhamer or playing a starters role in Junior A.

Anonymous said...

MacAuley has to beat out Mark for the job flat out this year or he will not return next year simple as that

Stan said...

No Langhamer is drafted and has a spot, the 2nd spot is between Cameron and MacAuley
