Tigers Defeat Kelowna 4-3 SO

Well I think Cam Lanigan is going to quickly become a fan favorite if he has more in him like he did tonight. Lanigan's Tiger debut at the Arena would turn out to be a game he probably won't forget as he stopped 55 of 58 Kelowna shots, including both shoot-out attempts for the win.

Kelowna scored the tie-ing goal with 24 seconds left in the game, however Lanigan made 2 highlight reel saves before Kelowna's leading scorer Myles Bell was able to roof it over top of him.

Late in the overtime Lanigan was able to stretch out his pad and make an unbelievable stop giving the Tigers a chance to win the game in the shootout.

I thought the Tigers played the game like they were on the penalty kill. Kelowna likes to shoot from anywhere. Their were a lot of outside shots, but for the most part the defenceman did an incredible job at knocking away loose rebounds with the exception of the last Kelowna goal. I thought Kelowna looked frustrated at the end of the second period.

I also thought Kelowna started the third period playing rope-a-dope, they weren't sharp, but the Tigers were unable to gain some momentum and it felt like Kelowna was then able to generate some chances because the Tigers laid back too much.

The difference tonight we all can agree on was the goaltending, the tigers were fortunate to come out with 2 points.

Let's just say it. Cam Lanigan, you are the man!!!! Darren commented on the radio that he thought it was the best goaltending display ever showcased at the arena. I agree.

We HAVE a goalie. And now we are getting back on the wagon. More wins to come!! This one was tough and not pretty but that is how we are going to have to start off. Good work tigers!

Lanigan was sick! Keep it up!

Dirty win but that is what we need. Wins are not going to come easy for the next bit, gotta be gritty like this. Quite possibly the best tending I have ever seen. Ridiculous! Not Bunz's barn anymore!

Anonymous said...

Trade Bus his play his getting ridiculous, Cam bailed him out countless times and he is brutal in his own zone

Reffing was terrible. Glad we got the win tho. Crowd could have been behind the team a bit more.

What was Hart doing getting all those penalties??? I thought that cost us the regulation win, even though the did not score on the PP, it was a momentum swing. He needs to cut that crap out.

Too many shots on net again. Glad we won. Bus added another negative to his total +/-...... how long will we let this go on?
Gritty win otherwise. Nice to see a SO, think we have the goods to win those most nights.
Lanigan was awesome. Great net-minding!

Hart did look a bit rusty but then again he has missed a lot of time recently.

True about Hart. He was still awesome out there. Just something he has gotta watch! Could have cost the win. Glad to see him back, I think he brings a lot to the team.

Busenius has the worst +/- in the entire league. Defensive zone coverage needs to be a focus for him.

Get rid of Bus, Bredo and Ryckman. There are younger more talented players on this team that deserve the ice time

Defensively they need to battle harder for loose pucks, don't think we won a puck battle all night in our zone but were bailed out by a terrific goaltending effort.

What has happened to Shinkarik? Gone cold. Where is Emerson Etem when you need him?

Anonymous said...

Hart penalty in the third gave Kelowna the tieing goal and then to play him in a 4 on 4 situation only to get another penalty could have been detrimental. Why was he not benched. Where is the coaching staff. Playing young guns during crucial times is just stupid coaching. Rely on your vets at these crucial times to pull out a win! Calgary will be brutal if the offence can't start to come alive on a steady basis. Tigers were lucky to get this win! But another team won't be so giving.

Lanigan was great, now if he can get a handle on consistency then the Tigers will build confidence from the goal crease out.

With Hart in the lineup... we win. I liked Pearce with Shinkaruk line too bad Koules doesnt get gritty and shys away from hits. Id like to see Leier and Labelle play together more good combo..when does the hardest worker Leier get an A..very gritty and fun to watch..

Anonymous said...

Yes Bus picked up another minus BUT it was PEARCE who got beat BAD to the net and PEARCE'S man scored NOT BUSENIUS fault!!!! I love to see that they had Hunter and Koules killing the penalty and Hart came out of the box and Kelowna scored! Why the hell do you have an offensive line out there at the end of the game killing a penalty when you could of thrown Bredo and Leier out there!!!!! Great job by the Boss on the bench!!! I really like the line ups that they had played tonight and it was about time that we started to play the D pairings more consistent, instead of bouncing all over the place!!!! GREAT JOB BY THE FANS TONIGHT!!!

Pearce got beat but he did more in the game to make us win. His overall play was excellent. Can not same for Bus. Bus has the -14 or whatever, clearly he is an issue night in and out. Pearce had one bad slip up, can not judge him on that alone.
For everyone on Hunter, do you not all remember when Etem returned and could not score because every team knew his play was to go wide on the Dman and score?? He went cold for a long while. Hunter is the same, he will figure it out, he just needs to keep battling. It is not that he needs Etem, he was an awesome player far before meeting Etem. So lay off!!! Support the guy, don't tear him down!
Lanigan is unreal. Why did this guy not start on another team? Keep er up Lanny, so glad to have you in the orange and black!

You crazy? Ryckman and Bredo are needed! Keep em, you have no idea what you are talking about!

Ken said...

Now that we have a goaltender, all the guys will hit their stride. Hunter will get in his groove and we will start mounting the wins!
Our young defence are getting so much ice time, this is going to pay off in the second half of the season and next year!!!

Anonymous said...

Can we not take Bus's "A" and give it to Leier??? Do the coaches not see this???

Anonymous said...

55 saves.......you kidding me?!?! WOW! Hopefully our guys feel a bit more confident with who we have in net and can get back to playing how we did at the beginning of the season, where we outshot teams!!! Can't do that to a goalie every night!

Anonymous said...

I like that Hunter is going to the dirty areas, goals will come, you can see he is fighting the puck a bit but he is working hard and that will pay off for him.

Anonymous said...

Hart is a veteran

Anonymous said...

Labelle and Leier would be a great line, I agree, would love to see it

Anonymous said...

Get rid of Bredo? the guy who broke up the one timer and turned it into a scoring chance on the penalty kill? because that makes a lot of sense and Ryckman/Lewington are the only Dmen we have that will stand up for players including Theriau if they get rid of Ryckman for a player that may not even be healthy that is beyond idiotic, how about Bus though worse plus minus in the league, AJHL is where he belongs

Anonymous said...

Let's quit throwing the sink at Bus!!! Maybe the focus should be on Hunter, he is terrible what has he done wearing the C? He has proved he needs somebody to get points for him when he touches the puck down in our end then gets a assist. Valk is showing him up! His stats for being the talk of the team are terrible. He is not in any way the leader of this team!Just another way of Clouston showing he knows nothing about the game! Should get fired now rather then later! If we think our goalie will hold us in the game all year long like he did last game, we know as much as Clouston which is nothing!

Anonymous said...

After his past 2 outings Lanigan should be goaltender of the week for the whl as he has outperformed everyone.

Stan said...

Here's an idea gang...stop throwing the sink at everyone...yes Shinkaruk, Busenius, Bredo, Pearce, our goaltending that was, and on and on have had their struggles this season but I'd hope you all know that the Tigers wouldn't win 40-50 games a season annually/automatically...yes we've been spoiled over the last 10 years or so with very competitive and even top notch Tiger teams, but this season truthfully will be a transition year with rookies and young guys getting way more minutes than they normally would breaking into this league, and veterans who have not played major minutes or significant roles being put into those positions where they need to adjust to it and learn on the fly. Be patient people, it is a transition year for almost everyone on this team in one way or another and let's see how they learn/progress in the first half of the season, and ultimately we should see their contributions to the team improve and grow as the season progresses.

Inside Scoop: Give this team a couple of weeks with Lanigan in net. We should see a climb back up in the stands.
By mid November, this team should dictate what we can expect from this club for the rest of the year.
There will be some changes in the near future to the team, that will benefit the club.

CLUB LEADERS:

•Goals (9) Curtis Valk
•Assists (9) Boston Leier / Dylan Busenius
•Points (17) Curtis Valk
•PIM (28) Tyler Lewington
•Plus/Minus (6) Boston Leier
•Wins (4) Cam Lanigan

We should get use to seeing Pearce in the mix of Club leaders soon.

Hahaha I just laugh at all you guys wanting to fire clouston! Where were you guys last year and the year before? It's just funny how when the tigers are over 500 you guys worship everybody but when they struggle a bit it's actually painful cause everyone is fire clouston, and the rest of the coaching staff. Also trade shinkaruk! You clowns should all give your head a shake! Remember these kids are 16-20 years old! There all not gonna be superstars in this league!

brennan hurley is now on the hitmen.

Hunter got drafted into the WHL high without Etem, he has had more years of success without Etem. He had the pleasure of playing with Etem for the past couple seasons, but don't hold it against him. He is an extremely talented player who is battling through a rough patch. Why does everyone forget that Etem had the same problem?!?!?!? It is shocking that people do not remember this!!!!! Shake your head!!! You know nothing about hockey talent when it is staring you in the face.

Anonymous said...

Clouston knows what he is doing, its called building a hockey team to win. Can't be done in a year. In his interview after last game he commented on the quality of leadership on the team. Lets not knock a 17 year old who is ridiculously talented because he is not leading the league in points in the first 13 games. Watch hockey much? This happens, guys get in slumps. If you are a true tiger fan you will support the team, not tear the players apart!!!! Not sure if you have not been a tiger fan for long but I remember all our good guys going thru slumps.... Etem, Ennis, MacCarthur, Lupul...... Hunter is no exception. Get over it!

The "Real" Captain is Valk !!!

Leier wears an "A" for the Tigers on the road...relax people. Bus has put in a lot of time with the team, and he will turn it around.

Love listening to all of you hockey experts who have most likely never had a pair of skates on in your life. Sounds like you need to get of the couch and throw your skates on. Comments about certain players are offensive and sickening.
