Tigers Defeat Kootenay 3-1

Unfortunately the Injury bug hit Jayden Hart again. He was scratched tonight.

Game Summary

Elgin Pearce was able to exact a little bit of revenge on his former team scoring the games first goal off a rebound. 1-0 Tigers

In the second period The Tigers would add to their lead from a point Shot by Kyle Becker on the powerplay. 2-0 Tigers

Kootenay would get on the board very late in the second period. Their was scramble in front of the Tigers net and I'm not sure if it was deflected or not, but a sharp backhand from Sam Reinhart rang off the far post and into the net.   2-1 Tigers

The third period was quite entertaining high paced gameplay both teams looking to score. Kootenay would pull their goaltender late, however they didn't even have time to setup as Valk and Busenius shoveled the puck up to Hunter Shinkaruk who  put it in the empty net.
3-1 Tigers

Thoughts

I thought the Tigers came out and played very well in the first period. It was a goaltenders battle as both tenders played very well in the nets. I thought the Tigers laid back a little during the first 8 minutes of the second period, but a powerplay goal was able to snag the momentum back.

The Tigers showed a couple new set plays in both zones. I won't describe them here but it led to a few chances.

Jake Doty covered for a pinching defenseman 3 times, and all 3 times made very nice plays to breakup the Kootenay rush. Doty was also involved in a second period fight with big 6'4 207 lb Mike Simpson.  Doty was able to land a handful of big punches, knocking Simpson to his knees at the end.

I thought Kootenay played a hard working type of hockey game. They get lots of pucks around the net. They have some real big defenceman.

That whole line of players Leier, Bredo, and Doty have been playing really well and have stepped up their game as of late. The 4th line also continues to play well no matter who is dressed. Cam Lanigan another first star.

They seemed to try some new things tonight, good team to practice those on. Thought they looked pretty good. I hope Hart is ok and can get back on the ice soon. I think he is really important to this team and the tigers really need him.

Any word on what has gone down with Hart? This seems to be a lot of injuries! A little strange.

with the how great Ryckman has been playing and the 20 year olds in general i think Theriau should pack his bags

I heard Hart had a sore hand but listening to coach Kruger after the game it could be more than one issue.

Pearce has very strong mid section.. wears it and comes back to score the games first goal... nice work and quite an example for the team.

Pearce is one player they are regretting letting go.

Inside Scoop: Pearce is a stud!!

What did Krugs say about Hart after the game? I missed that. I really think having Hart in the line up makes a huge difference. He is a smart player with good hands. He adds great secondary scoring and really could be a guy in the top 5 in scoring on this team. But he is out more games then he is in.

I'm curious , how come Langhamer does not play ? We paid so much and gave up a lot for a euro backup goalie. It just does not make sense to me. Either play him or cut him, why do we ruin his life and future because he is a NHL draft guy. Sure seems cruel to me , WHL meat market maybe ?

Mr. TigerTurf who do you see being the final 20 year olds? and any roster moves before the deadline in your opinion, i know a lot of people want number 2 in a different jersey

Krugs said Hart has been bit by a few different injuries. They will take some time to get him healthy since they have the young guys roaring to go.

He didn't mention specifics on the Injury.
-------------
Langhamer came in quite raw, but shows potential. I think giving him the odd start and working on him through practice will benefit him more than him getting lit up every other start.

I think everyday in practice the Tigers should use langhamer as thier PP/PK / tips practice goalie. Put big bodies in front and get him to work on picking the puck up through heavy traffic.

I would look for him to put up some quality starts in the second half of the season.

Ryckman I thought has really picked up his physical play since the aquisition of Lanigan, and deserves to play in the whl as an overager.

Both players have comparable foot speed. Ryckman is more of a physical defensive defenceman. Theriau has a better 2 way game

I feel that once Theriau returns he will be the #1 guy on the back-end.

Inside Scoop: Theriau has been released. Very good player. Will be interesting who picks him up. Great kid.

what? where did you hear this?

Inside Scoop: He was packing his gear this morning. He was very well composed. No bitterness at all. Handled it like a professional.

He is still listed on the roster!! Where are you getting this that he has been released?

The whl Weekly Update that came out today listed Alex Theriau as a return from injury.

However Inside Scoop has been right on the money before regarding trades.

I am a little suprised on this move if it is indeed deemed official.

Also sean rooney tweeted a few minutes ago that says theriau is a return from injuiry and the Tigers have 2 weeks to decide.....

Tiger's site shows that theriau has been released. Tough break for him, I hope he can catch on with someone else.

Surprised Kooteney did not jump on him. Like this move, the team was playing well and Theriau was not as good as Ryckman.

Inside Scoop: Theriau has taken this very well says a couple of his team mates. He is a very good player that will be sorely missed here in The Hat! Not sure he was dealt a fair shake after being asked to play through his injury the entire year. That's not how we want to treat our players.
I do feel there will be room for him on a roster in the near future.
Good luck Theriau!

Thing that makes me laugh about Kootenay letting Pearce go is they did so to keep 3 20 year olds Montgomery, Leach and their Captain Czerwonka. It was a numbers game and Pearce had to go. Then just awhile ago Czerwonka quit. Ha ha ha. No one would of thought Pearce would have the break out season he is having. Good for Pearce.
