The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled right wing Emerson Etem and defenseman Sami Vatanen from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the club has reassigned center Peter Holland and defenseman Jordan Hendry to Norfolk.

Etem, 20 (6/16/92), collected 12-2=14 points with a +1 rating and 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in 40 games with Norfolk this season. Selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the Long Beach, CA native is the highest drafted Southern California born-and-trained player in Ducks history and third highest in NHL history. The 6-1, 210-pound wing was named to the AHL Eastern Conference All-Star team on Jan. 23.

Etem led the entire Canadian Hockey League (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) in goals (61) and shorthanded goals (10), and co-led in game-winning goals (11) last season. In 65 games with Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League, he earned 61-46=107 points with a +29 rating. Etem was the first WHL player to score 60 goals in a season since 2000-01, when Swift Current’s Layne Ulmer scored 63 in 68 games.

Bunz is out of his league. He should still be in the WHL. He was weak in the ECHL. Goalies take longer and it was a mistake taking him out of the Hat. It is also got to be playing on his confidence. Too bad! He was a really low draft pick in the NHL. Most that low never put on an NHL jersey, why rush this guy who does have some talent? Big mistake in my eyes. Sorry they did this to you Bunzy!

I disagree. Bunz had nothing left to prove in the Dub. Needs experience at a higher level. Dont count him out just yet!!

Far better goalies and higher draft picks have played their 20 year old year in the dub. In addition, if you look at his numbers there was still room to decrease GGA and save %. He never had a lot of shut outs and he had lots of talent to improve this. I agree he needed more time in the dub. Goalies take longer to develop, he is sinking in the ECHL never mind the AHL. Too soon for him!!

5th round goalie, the Oilers have drafter higher since him. I think he will be lucky to reach starter in AHL never mind NHL. Just realistic.

Good luck Etem!!! He deserves this!!! Never seen someone so focused and such a hard worker!!

As a player maybe you could pull him up but as a goalie it is too soon. His numbers in te ECHL are very bad. More time with the tigers would have given him time to co to use to improve. He was a work horse for the tigers but he could have had better GGA. Can always improve. Also, a big factor is another year maturing under the roof of a billet.

The Oilers just claimed a goalie off of waivers on friday.

Bunz will probably be sent back to the echl pretty soon.

But it leaves a question as to what the Oilers will do with their goalies once Khabibulin is healthy.

Hope that works well for Bunzy!!! Get the confidence and winning juices flowing again!! Not sure what the Oilers are doing with goalies! All over the board!! Congrats to Etem!!! He has a long career ahead of him!!
