Oil Kings Shutout Tigers 3-0

Very Brief

Thoughts
I thought the Tigers played a pretty good hockey game. The Oil Kings came out of the gate fast with Curtis Lazar scoring their first goal 32 seconds into the game

Lazar potted his second squeaking it through Lanigan's pads on a bad angle shot and completed his hat-trick with an empty netter.

I thought the Tigers got better as the game wore on and matched the Oil Kings chance for chance in the second and third periods. The difference was the play of Oil King netminder Laurent Brossoit, and the Tigers being unable to score on their powerplays.

The Oil Kings took 7 penalties against the Tigers, including a full 2 minute 5 on 3, but the Tigers couldn't solve Brossoit.

The Tigers played well in all 3 games this weekend, unfortunately they were only able to come up with 2 out of 6 points. The effort was their and that's what we as fans like to see.

Up Next
Their schedule doesn't get any easier as they play another 3 games in 3 nights Starting with a Rematch against the Oil Kings Friday in Edmonton and back home Saturday and Sunday against Calgary, and Red Deer.

a pretty good hockey game? they lost every single battle for the puck and got dominated, doesnt help that we had only 5 D but holy you must of been some kind of drunk

I also liked the way the Tigers played last night against a much better Edmonton club. They competed hard all night and had the power play clicked who knows, could have been a difreent game.

I thought Hunter Shinkaruk didn't play well. Last night he was afraid to get dirty.

IMO the Tigers have been playing alot better than they were in november or december. The play of the 2nd/3rd/4th lines and defense has been much improved.

Two minutes with a two man advantage and no shots on goal ????

To be fair the Tigers did hit the post.

Oil Kings have the best PK in the league at 92.1%

They have only allowed 16 goals, and have scored 7 themselves shorthanded

That is one helluva stat

Tigers deserved a better fate. If I was told that we would only give up two goals and have 8 powerplays against a bigger, older, physical Oilking team, I would have been estatic.
We had opportunities but weren't able to score.
Edmonton played the type of game that suits thier team.
Lets face it we cant play a physical hard hitting game when we dont have physical players. When each player plays thier role we will win more than we lose.
I was happy with the effort last night. The Tiger ship is headed in the right direction. Overall we are a better team now than at the start of the year.

I thought we hung in there with one of te tip teams in Canada. I thought a number of those shots would have gone in any other night, which may have made this a different game. A little power play tweaking is needed but I also think that Hunter not playing a good game plays into the not scoring, especially on the PP.
I hope the guys are not hanging their heads on this one, was a good game, good effort and the team looked competitive.
Go tigers go!!!

We are so much better without Hart and Bus!! Apparently the mood in the room has really improved too!

Good effort Tigers! With efforts like that you will usually walk away with a win. Sucks that it did not go that way this time.

Only bad point was needs improvement on the PP. Otherwise great effort!

Was wondering who is responsible for our brutal schedule this year. By my count the team plays 3 games in three nights 7 times this year. I believe we have played 5 of them so far and by contrast Lethbridge will be playing there first this weekend south of the border and Edmonton played their only 3 in 3 this past weekend.

Seems as if Hunter had a reason for not playing great on the weekend. Not going to the prospects game because of the flu, perhaps as in a lot of cases people should find out if their are injuries or sickness before making comments on how players are performing.

I wonder what the record for the longest natural hat-trick is? Lazar's natural hat-trick took 58 minutes and 12 seconds.

where is dman brennan hunker playing this season?

Hunker is down in AJHL I think. I liked him a lot, really wish he would have stuck with the team. He was physical and defensive minded, we could use a little of that!
