Tigers Acquire a goaltender

The Medicine Hat Tigers announce this afternoon they have acquired 18-year-old goaltender Daniel Wapple from the Moose Jaw Warriors.

In return, the Warriors will receive a 4th round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft as well as a conditional pick in 2016.

Kellan Williams and Zac Robidoux were expected to battle for the backup job to Marek Langhamer, and it appeared that Robidoux had won the job after Kellan Williams was sent down.

However Williams remained with the team and came into replace Robidoux after surrendering 5 goals in an 8-5 Tigers loss.

With the acquisition of Wapple it appears that the backup job has been solved.

Edit: On Wednesday the Tigers re-assigned Zac Robidoux to the Portage Terriers of the MJHL

I guess they weren't happy with either Williams or Robideux? Not sure why else they would get another goalie unless Langhamer is hurt worse than what they say.

Ridiculous that after Tyler Bunz our scouting staff or goalie coach or whoever lists the goalies have not been able to find 1 that can even be a back-up

We need to draft a goalie we are going to play, that is what we have always done. I know the poor performance of previous 1st round MacCauley threw a wrench into the tigers plans but we need to draft and tendy in the 1st or 2nd round next year!!

It appears the Tigers were not comfortable starting the season with the two young goalies, thus the trade. Seems a little odd that they still haven't said anything about Langhammers injury.

Tigers and goalies are like oil and water. Never give a guy a chance and wear out any good ones. Poor coaching IMO

MacAuley is with the Regina Pats. It's a blessing that he's out of the Tigers Operation.

Very odd there is no info on Langhammers condition, is something going on?

Don't recall wearing out any goalies?!?! I think tigers have a good goalie history - just recent failure of a high goalie puck has caused problems.

WHL Weekly Report has him day to day with a lower body injury.

Curious as to which goalie they wore out? The Tigers are no different than most teams in this league where one guy will play 60 plus games and the backup plays the rest. I know for a fact that the team was concerned about the play of the young guys through the pre-season and with Langhammer going down for what could be 2-3 weeks they weren't comfortable starting the year with what they had.

Doty is playing in his first pre-season NHL game tonight.

What are the chances he gets in a scrap?

Just watched the Rebels VS Tigers highlights and their D-zone coverage was atrocious.

Probably a case of their players being over-aggressive in pre-season but there were so many odd man rushes it wasn't even funny.

Gotta feel bad for the Kid. Went from being the backup and probably really excited thinking he won the battle, to letting in a bunch of goals and getting sent down the next day.

Doty got into a fight tonight.

Totally unrelated with anything to do with goalies but still important with the crazy rumor I heard today, Tommy Vannelli (St Louis's 2nd rounder from this June) has left the Minnesota Golden Gophers even before his NCAA started and could be joining the Medicine Hat Tigers as CHL rights are owned by them.

His other option is the USHL with I believe Tri-City owning his rights, but apparently he is leaning towards the WHL over the USHL. Interesting to see what happens in the coming days with where he heads.

Whoops, I forget to add he apparently was in Medicine Hat today on a visit or whatever you want to call it.

confirmed that he is leaving the NCAA.

He is a second round pick in last years NHL draft.....this could be good news for the Tigers.

He is an offensive defenseman, and the blueline is already fairly stacked.

I'll keep an eye on twitter. It will be interesting to see what happens

Just what the Tigers need another offensive d-man that will generate more odd man rushes against. Two young goalies were already made scapegoats by Clouston for total lack of defensive coverage. Will be interesting to watch how Langhammer and Wapple deal with multipule breakaways and 2 on 1 rushes in every game.

Anon 10:02 who are these offensive d men you speak of. Hobbs is going to be in time but neither Lewington, Stanton, Becker and Jensen bring back any memories of Kris Russell. It'something this team has been missing for a few years and is one reason why the pp numbers have dropped off.

Completely agree with you Longtimefan!! I look forward to a good offensive defenceman. I think our D will tighten up come main season.
