Tigers Trade Leier To Regina

The Tigers will receive a 2nd round pick in 2016.
--------------------------------

Well I was a bit shocked when I heard the news, but after I saw the 2nd round pick coming back it settled my nerves.....but leaves me wondering what  Regina is doing. The deadline is 8 days away, and they may not make the playoffs this year. Spending a 2nd on a one year overager doesn't make good long term sense unless they plan to achieve a first round potential  Home-Ice playoff type of season.

I am ecstatic that the Tigers could get a 2nd round pick, and IMO the Leier/Doty debate was pretty close. So if the Tigers could get a 2nd round pick it makes a lot of sense. The Tigers essentially had 7 players who could play in the top 6 in Shinkaruk, Valk, Cox, Koules, McVeigh, Sanford, Leier. With trading Leier it solves that.

I wish the best of Luck to Leier in Regina he will instantly make that team a lot better.

Sorry to see him go actually. He always worked his tail off and you knew he was giving his best effort all the time. Guess the Tigers opted for toughness in this case. Hope he does well in Regina.

Tough to hear him leaving, wish him nothing but the best.

Fantastic choice

Anyone see the Start Jayden Hart has had this year? 8 points in 5 games.....Tigers could use a 6'2 209 lb forward.

Would not take Hart back in the line up, full stop. Hobbs will be years of return for Hart.

As for the trade, tough to see Boston go, but would have been hard to see any of them go. We needed Doty for toughness and with guys like LaBelle and Broadhead who have stepped up as good energy guys in addition to the widespread scoring, I think the Tigers are able to make up for Boston better then the other 20 year olds. But a tough loss, heart and soul guy, he will be missed!

Hart was -21 last year, it will take more then 5 games and 8 points to make me consider that a bad trade. Given how Hobbs looked and how the 2nd round draft pick will look, don't think I could ever regret that trade!

The Tigers management have single handedly sucked the "spirit of the Tigers" out of this team with this trade. For you long time Tiger fans, you know what I mean - hard work, loyalty, giving your all to the team - what it means to be a Tiger. There are some intangibles that you can't replace simply with "toughness". And...Leier is a great player as well. He will be missed.

Considering the Tigers got McVeigh and Hobbs back in return for Hart/Busenius, I would say it has worked out well for BOTH teams- as a trade should.

I would think PA would really like a promising 16yr old d-man back.

All the overagers (Bredo, Leier & Doty) brought something to the team. Tigers probably took the best deal offered to them. I think we had someone to fill all the voids if any of them left besides the toughness and intimidation factor that Doty brings. I believe this was the best decision. Get a 2nd rounder and offensively, Leier has been passed by a few of the younger guys.

Alan caldwell just updated his height/weight/age roster stats.

The Tigers are the lightest team, and 3rd smallest in the league.

They are also the oldest team in the league.

Friday they play Seattle who is the tallest team, and 2nd heaviest. Tuesday they play the hitmen who are the 2nd biggest team, and heaviest in the league...it will be a good measuring stick.

I read an article from Regina's Newspaper and I'll link to it shortly.

Regina's GM Chad lang said he had been in talks with the Tigers before Training Camp about inquiring Leier.

Looks like they upped the price they were willing to pay for him this weekend.

Leier sounded pretty shocked in his interview. Its gotta be tough spending 4 years in a city, on the verge of an incredible season, to be traded to a team that is in a growing stage.

I think the word great gets used way to often. I would classify Kris Russell, Joffrey Lupul, Tom Lysiak, Steve Tsjura as being great junior players. Boston was a hard working honest player but he was no where near great.

At the start of every season the last few years the tigers have been on the verge of an incredible season only to be good but not incredible. We will make the post season and maybe go two rounds as usual. Far from incredible

Good luck Boston, thanks for all your hard work. A good team player with lots of energy in his game gone, I will be sorry to see him gone but the Tigers have younger players ready to fill the void. Now we can get on with the season

True about the overuse of great, and point taken. Leier is a hardworking and honest player - both great qualities that any team would be happy to have in their players.

Simply put Doty was by far the better choice to make this team even better

Anon at 5:50 We'll see you in the Finals!

anon at 5:50 - pretty sure no one thought the Tigers would be very good at the start of last year with all the question marks.

this team looks sorted out and ready to compete nice and early on, whereas last year you may remember they had to put a forward on D to salvage the crew back there (which incidentally turned out pretty good, but you get the idea).

I think this team is pretty solid all the way through. Just need maybe one more legitimate scorer and hope the goaltending holds and who knows where the Tigers can end up!

The coaches were damned no matter what 20 year old they traded. The fact remains that we need Doty as a policeman and he chipped in offensively last year. With the rise of Sanford and the 4th line from last year we can replace Bostons points. Guys like Labelle and Broadhead will be expected to step up as heart, soul and energy guys. When you throw in that we got a 2nd rounder for Boston, it made him the obvious one to go. Now, in saying that, I wish we could have kept all the guys, Boston is amazing and I will miss him on the ice. But when one player must move on, it allows for others to step up! Go tigers go!

Speaking of Hart, he got a match penalty for attempt to injure. Glad he is off the tigers. Bad attitude.
