Heard a rumor that the Tigers are looking to acquire scoring. Also it looks like the Tigers only dressed one goaltender for tonights game, and Marek Langhamers goalie equipment got lost in Arizona.

I heard Labelle is injured.

Labelle and Ast are injured, Cole Schafer from the Cubs was the emergency backup tonight.

Go Valky go!!!!!! I think the whole city is behind this kid!

I am not surprised that the tigers are looking to aquire. I think they have a back-log of prospects worth value to trade. I also think they have some guys to shed - specifically Becker - but would be open to trading others - Allen? Labelle? And certainly they could easily throw a prospect into that mix - Fischer, Forest and other down the pipeline. I would love to see a big power forward. They definately have some pieces to work with!

So no goalie has been aquired, Rathjen is clearly not even practicing (why????) They must be somewhat confident that Langhammer is coming back is my guess.

I watched the Vancouver game with Valk and Hunter. Hunter is still so predictable. Always goes wide. Never infront of the net in the dirty areas. And terrible on defence, half the time he was out of the frame trying to get a long pass out of his own zone. Valk is a complete player and showed real well. Should get a contract. Coaches comments after the game was that Valk (and their goalie) were the best players on the ice. Nice to see complete play get recognised.

Poor Ast, was hoping this would be his season where he actually got to play. If the guy did not have bad luck he would have no luck at all. He is such a talented guy with a good attitude and great speed, here is hoping this is his only injury this year.
We kinda need to get some guys back!!! The tigers are getting thin on vets.

The tigers are looking at starting the season with a lot of youth in the line up due to guys away at camps and injuries. Could be a bit scary!

I know it is way to early to tell and I have no idea what other teams look like. But I really like the character on this team and think that there is a lot of talent there. Yes, some are young but I do think good things can happen with this team. Getting some vets back is key and potentially acquiring a guy or two, likely with the departure of a guy or two (20 year old at least). But I think the tigers have a good foundation for an exciting season. Can not wait!

Ok I swear I usually can get my online season pack for watching on newlion. What is going on? Why can I not buy it yet. This is the week that the season starts. Did I miss somethign that the WHL decided not to have online games anymore? I woudl be very disappointment. Anyone know?

Cant sleep and read an article about Bunz. Very sad to see that they are writing stories about him being a write off. Burried in depth. Terrible performance in the pro ranks since getting out of junior. I can not help but thinking it would have been so much better for him to play another year of junior. And I feel the same about Langhammer. I feel that Langhammer has only really performed well for 1/2 a season at best. Not that he was terrible before but he was nothing special. Let him have another year to prove he is a really good goal tender. Let him mature a bit more, get a bit strong and get more experience under his belt. I just think taking goaltenders too young can ruin them - like in the case with Bunz.

I remember watching a recent interview with Willie D, and in it he said bringing up a player to early can wreck him.

IMO bunz wasn't ready and I remember stating here on this blog once, and hinting a couple others but got ripped apart by people.
----------
With langhhamer a lot of people were ripping him up, and I tried to defend him saying he has the potential to be the best tender here since keetley...

I agree with you in that half a year of a great performance isn't ready enough yet. Good News for us is that due to the depth in Arizona Langhamer is highly likely to be back.

Was at the Stettler game last night, hats off to the town of Stettler and the Tigers. Over 1000 at the game and a great effort from the team.

Nice SO Schneider and looks like Mason S and Dave Q are doing awesome! Bradley too has a knack for the net!

I have also heard in the rumour mill that the Tigers are looking for a trade. A couple pieces and this team might look pretty good!
Love Hobbs and Queneville on defence with Shaw and Bradley up front. Not so sure about Schultz and Fischer tho. Maybe future cuts?

Valk and Shinkaruk both scored for Van in the game. Shinkaruk scored twice. I still feel that Valk is a 200ft player where Shinkaruk is opportunistic but good finish. Shinkaruk is a liability defensively ending the game with 0 compared to Valk with +1. I really hope Valks talent is recognised and he is given an NHL contract. Crazy to think Hunter was a first round pick and Valk was undrafted. I just do not get it.

Good job the ex-Tigers showed up for Vancouver today.
Shinkaruk first goal a tap in at the side of the net.
Second goal to tie a tip in of a point shot.
I still think he is labouring with his skating, but got double shifted late and it helped him.
He even threw a body check in the corner that dropped a guy.
Hope he keeps improving his skating, always had the great hand skills.
Valkie: great game. Solid defensively, drew a penalty off of a good defensive intercept.
Score a good goal off his own rebound.
Very solid game.

Interesting article in the paper about Rathjen......an "abnormality" in the medical. Could be a problem. Hope it is not. Hope things go well for him.

Doty with a goal! Good on him! Always loved his attitude and effort. Hope he is successful!

Wondering thoughts on who will be captain and A's?

Each year the WHL rankings always put the Tigers so low. Every year. Not that I am saying we should be top 10 this year at all. But each year I see the rankings, 12 years in the playoffs running, yet each year they have the Tigers ranked low. I just do not get it.

Lew for C is likely

If the Tigers had a couple power forwards 6'2 who could score 30+ goals I would have listed them as early season favorites..

This year they have the defense and goal-tending (provided they come back), but up front is questionable.

Travelodge tail gate party! Time to kick off another awesome year if tigers hockey..Go Tigers go!!

Final game for Valk and Shinkaruk

Both looked tired, nothing good to report for Valk, took a hard hit once.
Hunter was one of the better Cannuks, but no rewards for his efforts.
A fun tournament to watch, but not sure if any Tiger grads next year.
Maybe still Hunter and Valk?

Why do the Tigers always start the season in Lethbridge and not at home? You would think the league would rotate who gets the opener of the season.

"Valk has stood out, he's had a real good tournament. He's not the biggest guy, but he plays well" - Benning
Post game interview when asked who stood out. Good news for Valk, likely going to main camp.

Valk and Shink did not have great game. I still find that Valk plays in both ends where Shink is poor on defence. I doubt Shink will stick with the big club but maybe AHL. Valk I hope he gets a NHL contract

"I think if there's been one guy who has exceeded expectations it has been him"

Vancouver expected to go over video tonight, and make first cuts. We will likely find out in the morning if valk made main camp.
-------

Probably hear about Ty Stanton very soon as well. He was a +4 tonight

Gosh I love Valk! Come on Van, give him the NHL contract. He should have been drafted!!!!

TigerTurf said...

It's not official yet, but a Vancouver prospect writer has tweeted that Valk has made Canucks Main Camp.

Also Darren Helm of Detroit is looking to be moved up from 3rd line centre, to being Pavel Datsyuk's wingman.

Also someone was asking about whl live earlier.

I just got an email that they are doing early bird specials on now.

Yikes, might be tough to get a win this weekend. Missing a lot of key guys. Hoping Schneider is up to making a lot of saves and the young guys in the line up are up to the task!

Red Wings released their training camp roster and free agent invite Ty Stanton has made the list, so add that as another guy who won't be back for the start of the season...
