Utica Comets Update
Utica made their first round of cuts today. Both Curtis Valk, and former Tiger Wacey Hamilton survived. Utica still has 19 forwards at camp.(4 free agents). Shinkaruk played in his first AHL Preseason game and recorded 1 assist.

Overage Deadline Is October 15th, next Wednesday.

Valk signed an AHL deal today. He was sent down to Utica's affiliate Kalamazoo in the ECHL.

Tyler Bunz was also sent down to the ECHL.

Might sound far fetched but what I see shacking down is that Shinkaruk might need some time back in junior.
With that injury he was off a long time and may need to get his confidence back and see lots of minutes on the ice.
Sent back to Tigers and the Tigers trade his rights to Portland.

I still think that Shinkaruk is very talented but plays as an individual and never created an East West game. He would benefit from another year in junior. He needs to dominate like Etem did. If he was sent back I would hope he would be traded. I like the tiger team we have, guys play as a team. I do not think Shinkaruk fits into that.

What could we get from Portand for Shinkaruk?
Not another draft pick I hope!

Rebel Game Notes:

Tigers were all over the rebels in the first period. It wasn't close. They built a 2-0 Lead. In the second period the Rebels made some adjustments kept hitting and greatly minimized the Tigers chances. The Rebels gave the Tigers a run for their money in the 2nd and 3rd, until the Tigers got a lucky goal off a rebel stick, and then scored a couple late ones to seal the deal.

Becker with a big game with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Nice game tonight Tigers. Showed maturity and patience. Did not get panicked. I think they have got something with this team. Excited to see this season play out.

I know some moves are going to have to be made, our team roster does not add up. But I sure like the core we have. I think only minor changes needed. I like that Koules was traded to keep Becker. I was not a huge fan last year but he has stepped up his game. Still not my fav on defence but hats off to him for earning the overager spot when all the odds were against him.

Becker is helping the Tigers with boosting his trade value

Anonymous said...

Becker is staying. I would put money on that.

Allen or Staples to be moved.

TigerTurf said...

Staples has been a healthy scratch the last 3 games.

Becker is playing with great confidence and that wrist shot is lethal as we,ve seen in previous years. Well deserved first star!!

Nice start to the season for sure. Think tonight's game against Victoria, who, although they haven't got off to the greatest of starts, was predicted to be one of the teams to beat in the western conference. Big physical team with good goaltending, should be a good measuring stick for the Tigers.

In interviews Becker said he knew he had to come to camp ready to fight for a job. I think he and everyone thought he was a lock to get cut at the end of last season. Clearly the guy went home and worked his a$$ off all off season and came in with a good attitude to earn the job. That combined with the difficulties in the dressing room with Koules made Becker earn the job. I give full credit to the guy. Is he my favorite defence man - no, but I have gained a hell of a lot more respect for the guy and for someone works that hard to earn a spot, I think they become someone I want in my dressing room. Great job Becker! I love a guy who proves everyone wrong (including me)

Tough test tonight but tigers should be fine if they play with patience like last night and play their game. They also need the PP clicking tonight, might be the difference in the game.
So far I like the coaching staff a lot this year. Clearly the guys are buying in. Good to see.

I do not think the Tigers are in a panic to make a trade. Staples can sit until the trade is right. I like that the tigers are not rushing into anything. Play some games and see what you need. Tonight will be a good test if they need to acquire some muscle. I like this team, I think they have the parts to make a run, dont rush a trade, see what is needed and get the right guy at the right price.
Go Tigers

What exactly was the problem with Koules? Just curious

I do not like bashing a guy, he is a good player, but I heard from some of the players he came to camp with a very cocky attitude that was difficult for the room to deal with.
That being said, I hope the best for him in Portland. Sometimes a change in scenery is what one needs to grow as a person and player.

Vey scored first of many NHL goals tonight. Sick that like his WHL first goal, it was under coach Desjardins
