Hurricanes Make Some Big Moves!

Yesterday the Canes fired their head Coach Drake Berehowsky. Today they fired their GM Brad Robson.

The Hurricanes Assistant General Manager Peter Anholt will take over as both the Coach and General Manager. Anholt has coaching experience for the Raiders, Red Deer Rebels, Kelowna Rockets and Seattle Thunderbirds. He was also serving as a scout for Seattle

The Hurricanes board of directors felt that with the Christmas break coming up and with their record it was a good time for a change.

I thought the Tigs might have went for Morrisey and Heffley for Hobbs and Becker but it looks like Kelowna is loading up for the big show!

Kelowna made bigger moves, they got Morrisey.....in time for Friday's game.

Anonymous said...

Kelowna traded for Morrisey. They are seriously taken a men cup run. What will the Tigers do??? I would like to see a decent sized move!

Like a waddling pregnant women....Long overdue.....Oilers?

Morrissey, Bowey and Chartier are all at the world junior camp and will not be playing on Friday.

Friday's game is going to be a very good test. Kelowna has some guys gone, the Tigers have some guys injured. Interested in seeing how the game flows.

I'm hearing a ton of rumors should be interesting to hear some more Friday night.

Also Hobbs has made the WJAC Roster....World Junoir A squad.

Tourney starts Dec 14th in Kindersley.

Anonymous said...

What rumours are flying around? Any good source behind them? Tigers have to make a move. I hope it is a decent sized one!

Anonymous said...

Hoping the Tigers are going to make a significant move, I want to see a run. We need a power forward and a tough guy. Let's get it done

TigerTurf said...

I just calculated some stats on the Tigers.

When Hobbs was in the lineup the Tigers Goals against was 1.4.
After he has left it has risen to 3.1

After Markus has left their Goals for has been 3.2
Before Markus Left their Goals For was 4.4

SO both players not being in the lineup has had a significant impact.
Langhamer and Schneider have almost identical stats.
----------

Christmas Wish List
An enforcer to play on the 3rd/4th line.
A Top 6 Centreman with speed-size
-------

Flushing down depth is so important on championship teams. Take a guy like Hobbs..even though his ice-time wasn't high...just the security in depth made everyone better...same with Eisenschmid up front.

Hopefully this game against Kelowna can solidy opinions. They are already big favorites to win everything.

longtimefan said...

Don't agree with your take on Hobbs at all. Him leaving has had little bearing on the teams goals against going up. They were playing out of there minds defensively to start the year and anyone with any sense at all knew they weren't going to keep playing at the pace they were. Losing top six forwards like Eisenschmid and Butcher has an effect on goals against because you don't have the puck possession as much, which puts more pressure on the defensive side of the game.

TigerTurf said...

I agree that it was a matter of time before those stats slimmed down a little. However as of now as a whole they are outscoring their opposition by only 0.1 goals a game,(start of november) and that is a MASSIVE difference even with stats being slimmed down a little.

When those 2 were taken out of the lineup the team's game as a whole changed. Of Course Butcher being injured didn't help either.

They aren't as dominating speed wise. Their coverage in their own end is getting worse. Leads to fewer chances, more time in their own end, and everything else you mentioned.

I"m saying the stats show that those 2 not being in the lineup have had had big negative impacts on the teams overall play, and they have been sliding since November.

Anonymous said...

Longtime is right it is more a function of losing 2 top 6 forwards for an extended period. Having to elevate players into roles that they really aren't ready for effects the team dramatically in their own end. I would also be curious to know if the stats you mention reflect the quality of the opposition they have been playing of late. I don't recall many bottom feeders in the last month

WHL Fan said...

I totally don't agree wih your take on goal differential...Key guys out of lineup...Short bench most of time..And the most glaring stat about the .1 you talk about is that our PP and PK have taken a nose dive...
Take on tonites game is that Vanelli looks like a player that has the pout on for not making the USA squad. Let your play show that they made a mistake rather than showing them how right they were for not selecting you..Doesnt give 110 on every shift..3 Lazy penalties tonite..One they scored on the PP and another just after penalty expired.
The boys are playing a bit scattered on the ice at times...Loosing their check and not supporting the puck...
I will say it again that our PP will be the killer of this team.
Kelowna plays a sound fundamental game. They use their sticks well on the forecheck. Stick on stick all the time..That is what the 5th visiting goalie to get first star this season...Id like to know what our shooting percentage is.
Great job by the Staples line playing against the number 1 Kelowna line. Staples a true team guy.never bitched when he was a healthy scratch early in season and is getting rewarded. Yah hear that Hobbs. I also like the play of Rassel Dazzle. works hard on his shifts.

Anonymous said...

Getting tired of Langhammers weak goals. Becoming more frequent then usual. Tonight the second and third goal were not screened and just weak goals that cost the game.

Anonymous said...

Thought tonight the game was given away, not lost because the Tigers were not as good. They need PP work, JF Martel to help Langhammer stop shots with no screen and help playing the puck and finally, let's get a trade for some talent and size up front!!!!

TigerTurf said...

The Tigers were playing horribly defensively compared to what they can play like, and if you don't agree...I don't know what to say.....Just watch the past game tapes of their positioning and overall coverage...it wasn't that great..and compare it to the game they played against Kelowna...

They were 100% committed to defense. Kelowna didn't have many prime chances, minus the couple accidental breakaways. They took care of their own end, and offensive chances developed because of that.

Stats to me are just stats, its what you see on the ice. Tonight was the first game in a long time where I saw them play very sound defensively.

I liked the Powerplay, they took a step in the right direction. It is obvious that they worked on it a bunch. They had really quick puck movement, lots of shots, they just need to keep working on it and refine it.
------

The Tigers could have won the game tonight. IMO Kelowna wasn't head and shoulders above them. It was a close game where the Tigers lack of finish, and a couple goals Langhamer normally doesn't give up cost them...and they probably would have won.

Kelowna was missing their top 2 defenceman, and a guy that could score like Etem could when he was here....when they get that in the lineup...they probably have an edge.

longtimefan said...

Think the main culprit for the difference in goal scoring would have to be the woeful power play which has now sunk to 15th in the league. Pretty good puck movement but no traffic in front, and folks, the goalies in this league are to good to let them see all the shots and expect to score. Think they should end the experiment with Cox on the point for the pp. that was scary.

Thought it was interesting that there was no Tommy Vanelli on the ice when the Tigers pulled the goalie the first time. Message being sent?

With the trade deadline fast approaching it will be interesting to see what they do or don't do. Having an older defence like they do you would think they would try to add to make a push. Hasn't been there MO over the years so we will have to wait and see.

WHL Fan said...

The team didn't play sound a sound defensive game tonite. They didn't play as a 5 man unit with puck support. They were too spread out at times and Kelowna was allowed to attack the puck because the Tabby player didn't have support. We didn't create much offense using our speed because the carrier didn't have support. Kelowna is far superior than us when the 3 guys are back in lineup. Whoever is bitching about Langhammer is a fool as far as Im concerned. Top corner Blocker side was a perfect shot. A change up that slipped under his pad was the only questionable goal and that happens to every goalie at these high leagues. The expectation is that the guy shooting from the slot is going to rip it. How many major league hitters look like fools trying to hit a change up from 90 feet rather than saving a puck from 20 feet. Give me a flippin break.
Yah the PP had shots but zero quality shots. I give them credit that they are putting pucks to the net, something that fans have been asking for. I wish that they were able to get some pucks down low. We rely on the hard wrister from the wing that either hits the goalie in the gut, flies high, or wide. It has to be a perfect shot. I see that they try to get Becker parked in front of the net to create traffic but he doesn't have the quick hands to work the rebounds. Opposing goalies are allowed to control rebound and the defensive guys box out the attacking Tigers coming for rebounds. Not to many PP goals gonna happen.

Anonymous said...

I agree Cox on the point is bad. Vanelli took two silly penalties late in the game and I think a message was sent. And rightfully so.
Sadly, yes, most goalies will make every save they see, other the 2 of 3 goals last night in Langhammer. I was really let down by those two goals. And that does not give the Tigers a chance to win. I hope Schneids is in goal tonight. Langhammer seems off and needs some instruction to get back "on". Those two weak goals were game changers

04Forever said...

Kelowna was missing 3 incredibly good players and still beat the Tigers soundly, they did not give up a lot of chances and the Tigers seemed to not know how to deal with their defensive game. Impressive how Kelowna was never out of position, finished their checks and their break outs were perfect. Good effort against a great team but Kelowna with their best 3 Dmen in the lineup and best scorer would crush the Tigers, they are just way too good and are a team that saw how good they were and went out and got pieces to get better, Tiger haven't done anything to improve. I found the most shocking thing last night was how the 4th line (Staples espically) was causing havoc and turning the puck over and scored the first goal and they hardly play the second and third period but line 3 had a normal shifts and looked horrible all night, that might of been Penners worst game as a tiger

WHL Fan said...

I would put a package together that would include Penner for sure. His play doesn't indicate how well he is perceived by fans. Maybe he gets the hometown pass. He has shown little offensive threat. Just dumps the puck in at the blueline every chance. His value on PK is immense but his overall game lacks.
The tigers don't seem to make adjustments throughout the game. We typically have a strong first period. The other team makes changes at intermission and we let down and teams come back.
You see how opposing teams crash the net and get in Langhammer grill. We need to get gritty like that. More sandpaper hockey.

Murphy said...

Kelowna play with grit in your face hockey, merkley even out worked stanton, our little guys shy back when the play gets gritty. I think the boys are running the show. We wont even get out of the first round this year.

TigerTurf said...

Did you not see Cox quarterback the powerplay to the point where they had amazing puck movement? They could improve upon their decision making in taking shots, but that is what you want on the powerplay. Quick Puck movement forcing people out of position for shots in close.

The 2nd part of it is getting traffic in front, and rebounds. That is the part that could use improvement on. They had a lot of outside shots, but they also passed on a lot of opportunities in the high slot.

The 2nd half of the game they had a bit of trouble on the PP, but they had some amazing puck movement. Cox had one little dribble on the back-end, which cost a breakaway...but the puck was bouncing and flipped over his stick.....

I saw improvements to their powerplay. IT will take time to gel together, but they took a big step in the right direction.
-----

Their puck support on offense could have definitely used some improvements. However their coverage and positioning in their own zone was miles better than the last month.

The Tigers fizzled in the third period, I thought their legs weren't there. Kelowna came out very strong and won that period hands down. The Tigers made a valiant comeback.....They get that PP clicking, and a better 3rd period, it would have been a much different game.

It was good to see Eisenschmid back in the lineup.

longtimefan said...

"Langhammer seems off", seriously. Wasn't he the first star and the main reason they won in Kootenay on Tuesday. Third star in Everett after a solid game. He let in a soft one last night but has been nothing short of brilliant all year. Lot of sore ankles around the city today. Drugstores must have been busy.

CatFan said...

I'm sure if Lethbridge fans read this forum they would want to throw up. Seriously, people we are 2 points out of the conference lead after battling injuries most of the first half. Traditonally we are stronger in the 2nd half, so please get some perspective. We will not be perfect every night, but we are always entertaining and isn't that what hockey is all about??

TigerTurf said...

That was ugly but 2 points is 2 points.

WHL Fan said...

For sure an ugly two points. I like the bit of change up that Clouston did in splitting up Becker and Vannelli. That playing at 75% speed that those 2 play in our end is a killer.
I beak about the play of the Tigers when I feel it is warranted. It is my right as a season ticket owner. I wouldn't mind seeing a benching. or two.
Those old trade winds are a swirling. Will we make a deal or not.

longtimefan said...

Bench someone? And replace them with? The only body they have extra is Chad Butcher and he can't play because of concussion symptons.

WHL Fan said...

Ride the pine for a period. 75 % is brutal. Fans expect and deserve more. That type of play during Willies time would have resulted in sitting a period or 2.

longtimefan said...

Part of the problem is they've played half the games in the past month with a short bench as it is. Let's shorten it some more and see how that works out. One more game before the break and then a much needed rest. Hoping they bring some bodies in to fill some gaps with Marcus gone to the world junior and Butcher out until at least after the break. This teams depth is very weak to start with.B

WHL Fan said...

Kanzig was a healthy scratch for Hitmen last night and they were already short Dmen. A foreward came back to play D. Coach sent a message that team discipline will prevail no matter what the circumstances. I could give a rats arse that the team already has a short bench. You aren't going to play a TEAM game then ride the pine and watch the team play.
Senators had 2 veterans sit and watch. Noel of the Giants has regained team play and they have reeled off 6 straight wins. The most successful teams play a sound team game. Tigers need to play within the system.
With the short bench the team needs to play at 110% to overcome the short bench rather than give 75%.
The same players giving less than 100% effort is unacceptable. Reward the guys giving 100% with more ice and sitting the slackers.

Anonymous said...

The first line would have had 15 points combined last night if they could find someone to keep up with Sanford and cox

TigerTurf said...

I really have liked the play of staples he is doing everything he can from hitting and being physical, him and rassal pair up well together.

longtimefan said...

What you perceive as guys being slackers may just be guys playing tired. Six games in nine days with lots of travel and a flu bug going through the team tends to wear people down. There's also a couple guys playing that wouldn't be if there were enough able bodies around to fill in.

I agree with TT's comment about Staples game but that's exactly what I'm talking about there being a lack of depth with this club. When you need to resort to your number 7 defenceman to play centre there's an issue.

Anonymous said...

You could find lots of players to keep up with Cox and Sanford if yiu didn't have to help the D down low to transition puck up ice

WHL Fan said...

When these slackers skate faster with the puck going on the O, then they do coming back on D, yup they are slackers in my book.
To top it off taking a hook or trip penalty because you are not giving it.
Excuses are for loosers. Winners never whine, they compete even harder , dig deeper.
Tigers have always been a hard working team. When they dint work at 100% they will loose.

Anonymous said...

Gotta be trades coming.....but I would not think Mowbray or Labelle, they are two of the hardest workers! Always like watching them play!

I love our team but would like to see some new blood up front - some size and grit!

Anonymous said...

I don't see a move being done until after Christmas.

WHL Fan said...

What I see missing from the Tigers is a rugged dman that will clear the front of the net and can shut down a teams top players. Also we have a need for a foreward that keep teams from keying on Cox and Sandford. Who knows how long Butcher will be out.Making the team more balanced. Here is my trade scenario I wouldn't mind seeing. There would likely be no Eastern team that would be willing to trade with the Tigers. So out East I see that PG has some needs and also some assets.
Id trade Penner, Hobbs and a 2nd rounder to PG for Sam Roup and Brad Morrison.
PG has the leagues worse PK by a large margin and Penner would help in that capacity along good forecheck and character. Hobbs is the puck moving first passer that PG has never had.
Roup is a big body tough dman that will drop the flippers a time or 2. Morrison would be the key to the deal. He has great upside and has yet to fill out but would sure take the heat off of the topline.
Hobbs has the skills to be the best player out of this lot but since he doesn't want to play for Tigers a trade is in order. Id even be willing to add to the pot and put a listed Tabby on the table to make it happen.

TigerTurf said...

Actually that sounds like a good deal.

I think the Tigers would still need to add a body up front afterwards, but that is a move I'd think would benefit both teams.

WHL Fan said...

Tigers have the horses, its just a matter if they have the will and desire to make it happen. We are only as good as our weakest link. Like I keep harping we are not in a position to take a shift off or play at 3/4 speed.
Ast is still not at 100 neither is Markus. When those 2 guys get their legs under them we will be off to the races. No need to add another player, just players for players in any deal. Maybe a depth veteran for some crucial situation minutes or even a guy that can be counted on to win faceoffs. Bloggers here keep saying to bring up a listed player to fill in while we are short benched. Here is my response to this. I understand the thought process but with that said the player will benefit the Tigers more in the long run with him developing on his club team. Getting tons of ice playing PP and PK. Getting called up and not getting much ice will hinder development. If they prove themselves through the club season and after their season is complete then they will come up to the Tigers and get a taste of WHL life.
This is the year to make a Mem Cup run. There is no clear cut favorite in the East. Wheat Kings are set to make a strong run next year so they wont be making any significant deals. A tweak maybe. A long run this year will only help them next year.
Regina is playing above expectations right now. They will soon crash and come back to reality.
Swift has the skill but they are a Jeckle and Hyde team. Never know how they will be night to night. Bow gets to many minutes and will burn come playoffs.
Calgary has skill and obviously team size but they have major character issues. Too many cancers in room isn't good. If they can get dressing room in order they could be a team.
In Edmonton, If Lazar had come back they would be buyers going for another cup run. Without him they are average and might be a seller for the right price. They have some big assets Tigers may, that is a big may look at. Red Deer, is playing for next year as Mem hosts, so any playoff experience will benefit them. Sutter preaches team discipline and he would have no problem sitting a player to ensure TEAM play. His record speaks for itself.
The Ice are the ones who are gonna be in it come playoff time. They have skill in every position and if Hoflin is hot, they could go deep. The Ice is the Team the Tigers need to get the jump on with a good trade. You know McGill will be at his cranky best and Jeff Cynoweth has the scouting staff to get whatever he might need to make a good run.

TigerTurf said...

In your scenario I miss-calculated the bodies, with staples moving up front and extra Dman on the back. They wouldn't need to add. Your right.

That is a relatively smaller deal that wouldn't give up the farm, and would make them better next year...in compliance with typical Tiger History. Honestly I'd LOVE that as a backup deal if they couldn't add a big scorer.

Anonymous said...

so understand that you have to decide what you will give up to make it and is there anything out there worth it, so look at teams that wont make it, IE Vancouver - Houck. I read some of this stuff and you'd never know the Tigers are first in their division and a couple of points out'a conference lead. most players seem like they arent good enough, ?? for who the,Tigers. Owre is doing a good jon as center, and yes going low to help the D is part of his job?? like who wrote that? and we have no tough D?? Really what is Lewington, watch him in front of the net , maybe you should stand there see how it goes, same with Stanton , they are as good a shutdown pair in the league and they can skate.we could use another foward to make 3 strong lines, the tigers are all about team and effort and pure speed, they arent getting big overnight

longtimefan said...

Heard a rumor that there is a possibility that Butcher may not play again this year. This latest concussion is number three going back to last year and the concern is growing.

Anonymous said...

Terrible news about Butcher. I hope that is not the case but 3 concussions is pretty serious.
I like the idea of the PG trade. Would love to see that happen. I think it would good for both teams.

longtimefan said...

It's imperative any deal they do needs to include a defenceman under the age of 19 coming back. With the current roster ther is a possibility that only Quennville and Ty Schultz could be the only returnees on the backend. With both Lewington and Becker gone, Vanelli won't be back, Stanton is a possible 20 and Staples who won't be in the picture, the defensive group isn't looking good.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't there a late release of a d man to the Alberta Jr A league. Why wouldn't he be brought back up to get experience as there is going to be a hole next year.

04Forever said...

Keeping Becker over Forest or getting another Dman was a terrible move for the long term.
Are you referring to Shaw who was released by the Mustangs in Jr. A? He got released so he could sign with any Junior A team he wanted instead of getting traded up north, the calgary mustangs apperently have a joke of management

Anonymous said...

Nothing stopping the Tigers from bringing Forrest back. I really liked him in camp! Koules was a dressing room problem and forced a necessary move that has impacted the defence situation.

I am looking forward to seeing what trades are made! Hope to see some size and grit.
Will also be nice to have Marcus back! Would like to see a full line up at least once.
Also, Staples is really stepping up. Good game by him!

WHL Fan said...

Not a start to the game that the Tigers wanted but Langhammer did his part making big saves while the team was getting their legs under them.
Kamloops has a short bench and was prime for the tabbys to take advantage but typically with kids this age, they think that they can just put er in neutral and get win. It typical when you play a last place team. Hard to give it your A game. The delay didn't help either. That delay was sure to the Blazers advantage.
Tigers skill sure showed as the game progressed. Even though Owre isnt getting the points as Cox and Sandford, he is getting his nose and um chin in the gritty areas. Taking a big hit to make a play.
Even with the level of competition that we played last night, the evidence of the need to have a nasty punishing Dman clearing the front of the net especially on the PK was evident. We have overall team toughness on D, but lack that guy that is gonna make you pay for standing in front of our crease. Marek gets a tiny bump, nudge or brush from opposition often. Other teams are aware that this gets Marek a bit off his game, that's why they keep doing it.
My trade thought I gave, gives the tigers a guy that has the nasty to move guys out and is young and will be an asset for the next 3 years. As said by many on this blog, we need to find secondary scoring for a deep playoff run.
The secondary scoring we had at the start of the year is in jeopardy. Butcher had a good start but know with concussion ills, his health is more important than hockey right now. Marcus also had a strong start and I hope he has a great World Junior Tourney to get his legs back. If his knee doesn't get totally right then we could be in a difficult bind. Now with Ast getting another ding when he needs ice time to get the legs and timing right, wont help either.
I sure wouldn't want to put all my eggs in the basket that all our injuries and ills will be at 100% come playoff time.
I concur with T-T that this would be our year to go for it.
It makes hockey sense as we have awesome pieces here now. A high end goalie, skilled and mobile D, 2 of the top 5 scorers in the league. There is no true front runner in the East.
Financially it makes sense. The buzz and atmosphere will be back at the ole barn just in time to fill up the new Event Center. Attendance has been dropping off lately, its time Tiger management gets the fan juices going again by making some headlines.
Those are my thoughts.

It's to late for a memorial cup run, Tigers had a chance to improve the team to be able to contend with Brandon and Kelowna but Kelowna is a scary power house I can't see them losing many games for the rest of the year

WHL Fan said...

The thing the Tigers have that can get them to the Mem Cup is a top tier goalie. Pap in Brandon is not good enough...Neither is Whistle in Kelowna..Kelowna is def the team to beat, but they are beatable..Dont kid yourself, they will have a hard enough time getting past Portland..Kelowna and Portland have easy schedules in the second half...Portand only leaves the USA 3 times in the second half..Even with Brandon and their brutal travel have things easy as the competition they face in the east div is less calibre than teams in the Central(exc Leth)that the Tigers face.
If Clouston pulls off a trade we can go for a run.

Anonymous said...

Judging by the comments made by Clouston at the end of the game, there is trades coming and I think there is still potential in this team. Sounds like Butcher will be back after the christmas break and Marcus should get his legs back. I see no reason why the tigers can not acquire a tough guy and a scorer and be a good competitor.

Jevne in town and will play tonight.

For all those griping that the team is playing shorthanded, those are valuable minutes the 4th line guys get to pick up by playing 3rd line shifts!

What's the point of constantly carrying 3 or 4 scratches who miss time with their AJHL or midget team?

You can cry all you want about the Tigers being shorthanded up front but not bringing in a platoon of guys when there is an injury or two and giving guys who would normally ride pine some real ice time not only develops those players but instills trust that when the opportunity is there, the coach will play them.

I am willing to bet Alex Mowbray and Scott Allen would have preferred this year's scenario to last year where they barely got into the games.

Cox is playing a lot better. He is moving his feet more, and trying new things on offense. Typically he just waits to pass the puck, but we saw him go for it and came close to succeeding tonight. League leader in scoring by 5 points!

When he starts slacking I will be sure to get on his case again!

I want more trade speculation...lets start our own rumour mill....

I say lets go for Point from Moose Jaw...
For Hobbs and a pick

"Cox is playing a lot better" are you frigging kidding me. He's leading the league in scoring and you take a backhanded stab at him. He's playing 35-40,minutes a night, what more do you want out of the guy, sheesh.

That's the spirit Anon 11:08!

Like to see a scenario where they pull Bittner out of Portland.

The way I see it though, everything this team has going for it is built on chemistry. Every guy has his role. Labelle accepts Bradley is ahead of him and does his job as required etc.

Trade is going to bump someone down and potentially disrupt that chemistry, but that being said, with the club being shorthanded as much as they have been I'm sure the guys would accept a new player.

Didnt Cole sanford score in the 3rd period in 21 seconds? Does anyone know who the uncelebrated winner of the 5000$ giveaway was?No mention of it prior to the 3rd period start??

TigerTurf said...

Wasn't meant to be a backhanded stab.

He has 28 points in december in 3 less game ...15 points in November.

I would agree that he is playing a lot better....???

Cox's output is not just that he is playing better it is also a total change in the PP. Prior to December he was playing net front on a very average PP. Now with him running it, the PP is actually starting to produce on a regular basis. I bet if you were to check his powerplay points are way up versus the first months of the season.

Not even a mention of the 3rd period 30 second score winner wtf?

No one was in the seat or in attendance to claim the prize. That's why they are not talking about it. All the winner had to do was come to the game.

Since no trades let's make some situations up the fans would like to see:
Personally I want a big top centerman, 3rd line heavy checker and a mean man on defense.
My moves would be Hobbs for Stewart on PA. I think this could be a straight up trade or the tiger could get more Hobbs is going to be a very good Dman to watch and Stewart will be a 20 year old next year. Stewart is mean, physical and one of the toughest guys in the league. Would be a great policeman for 2 years.
I would send Stanton to Portland for Keegan Iverson. Add of Stewart makes Stanton available and for next year Stewart bring a lot to the table over Stanton. Iverson is a 2nd/3rd line bruiser, is known for crushing guys into the boards and being a spark plug can also fight and is big on standing up for team mates.
The center situation is a difficult one I could see Petan coming here but I'm going to go with Carroll and a 17-18 year old Dman for Becker, Penner and a couple of high draft picks. Victoria is not in the running anymore and will be sellers Carroll is great with Cox and Sanford because he is big and very mean player he can have a 40 goal season but also hits and stirs the pot.
Those would be my trades, Id also look at Prince George to get Ruopp but it will take a lot to get him.
TigerTurf you have any trade scenarios?

I don't want to waste a third line spot on toughness. I want toughness on our top 2 lines.

Find a tough/gritty winger with skill. A legitimate pro prospect who can play big minutes on our 2nd line. A Pollock/Kirkland/Gabrielle type player.

And a top line or 2nd line centerman who can also play wing to provide toughness. Like a Baddock/Hickman/Iverson.

Preferably guys who will be here this year and next year as well.

Need some protection as we are getting banged up pretty bad.

Clouston already made a move.... he brought in Jevne...We are the only team in the league that doesnt run 4 lines, yes good ice time for the rookies, but tiring out the players leads to poor line changes and backchecking and hi scoring games.

Time for a new Coach and Gm if Clouey cant make it happen/<

I want a 1st line centreman who can push the depth of everybody down.

Owre is good, but should be a 2nd line centre on a championship team. (sounds like he may be out for a while though now)
-------

Just look at the team Canada game tonight. They had a very quick team who also finished their checks. They wore team usa down and had more scoring chances.

The Tigers are small but they don't finish their hits, minus Staples/mowbray.
------

If the Tigers don't bring someone in this season, I am shutting this blog down because I will be too pissed off to follow what they are doing anymore.

Its sad and we will miss you TT. Junior players don't cost money just a little effort and thought from the GM! All the other teams seem to be on it but not our team. Just like no RRoary or shirt air gun or any announcement of who the winner of the 30 second 3rd period goal winner was? What did they send the Texas tiger girls to find that the winner was in the bathroom or concession with no announcement or picking another seat or ticket holder?? Cman who is running this the missing link mascot chicken wing??Sad folks (be better)!!

It will be a very sad day it you quit this blog TT. Its been one of the best blogs out there. I share your frustration with the lack of moves but there are a lot of teams still in the playoff race. I for one wouldn't mind seeing Watson from Lethbridge in our lineup. Lot of Energy. I also thought Jones had some grit the Tigers could do with. Another possibility could be Seattle for Theodore or Victoria for Carroll. Might be a exciting few days ahead.

I think That was the liquor talking, but I still want to see them make a move.

Bruce Luebke (880 CKLQ Brandon) just announced on the BWK/Blades pregame show that the Tigers have sent Hobbs to Regina. He didn't say what they got in return

TigerTurf said...

Interesting...I will keep an eye on the twitter/message board feeds.

Regina has quite a few 19 yr olds, and the higher ups have mentioned that they see them as sellers, rather than buyers...although they have been playing really well lately

Lets look at their Roster.....

Next Years Overagers
Wapple
williams
Burroughs (possible AHL)
Hunt
Gay
Klimchuck (likely gone)
Hansen

If they don't plan to go for it it may make sense to sell one of those guys....if the trade is not for a younger player.. Hunt/Gay? both 6 feet PPG players.

yeah i dont have a tweeter account or i would ask him about it. he is pretty good at answering tweets when he is on the air

So many interesting event happening the past week or so.
1) Tiger PP...I like what the team has done with the pp. putting Cox and Sanford on the point. They have great stick handling skills and are able to move the puck around to create creases and shots to the net. Teams have to get out to them at the point because they have the moves to get in close to get a good shot or in Cox to let go of a big one timer. Vanelli and Becker get down low to create screens and dirty rebounds. I have stated all along that the Tiger pp will be either the killer or savior of this team come playoffs.
2) Tigers need to make a splash in the trade dept. Something significant needs to happen. Clouston best be on the phone 24/7 to get deals done. Show the team that management has confidence in them and are willing to make things happen. If no trades happen I expect many players losing respect for the GM. Show these vets that what they have contributed to the team is appreciated.
3) Now with injuries to Owre up to 6 weeks, Penner and Marcus coming back from a significant injury we need to get more bodies to take some minutes so more guys don't get hurt.
4) Team has started to focus on scoring which is a positive as they were having a bit of problem with scoring. This O has led to more goals being scored against the team. I have a lesser concern with the GAA going up as I like the O we are generating.
So if it is true about Hoobs going to Regina I sure hope we get a player back and not just a draft pick. Id like Klimchuk in an orange jersey.
I hope it was the booze talking TT. Id hate to see this blog go...Means Id have to start one...

London is 10 ranked nationally and they became sellers today...Sounds totally ridiculous to me...They have a 8-0-0-1 streak going and have Domi at the Juniors. Says a lot about the state of junior hockey that a team ranked that high has thrown in the towel.

According to a poster on the white board Connor Hobbs is going to Regina for forward Morgan Klimchuk's. Don't know if anyone else is involved but I can't see this being a one for one.
