Tigers Go 2-1 On Trade Deadline Weekend

Early in the week the Tigers made a blockbuster deal with Regina picking up Kyle Burroughs, and Dryden Hunt. The Two flew to Victoria to await the rest of the Tiger team.

55 Hour Bus Ride
Their were a couple avalanches on the road and the Tigers were stuck out in revelstoke. I guess they basically camped out in the Bus. Seeing as how the next morning arrived and they kept pushing the time back to when the road would be opened they found a hotel and stayed the night. The next morning they made their way to Victoria and met up with their new teammates.

Victoria
Pretty much played with a new lineup as this was Markus Eisenschmid's first game back from the world juniors. First games for Dryden Hunt, and Kyle Burroughs. Blake Penner was back from injury. That was almost a whole line.  I thought the Tigers controlled big parts of the game. The broadcaster mentioned that this looked like  Detroit Red Wings game where they controlled the majority of the puck possession. The Tigers won 3-2 but that score flattered Victoria.

Vancouver
I didn't get the chances to watch this game. The Tigers always have a good rivalry with Vancouver and always seem to loose against them at least once no matter what the skill Vancouver has. I was a bit surprised though that Vancouver came out with the 5-3 victory.

Kelowna
This could very well be a preview of the whl championship final if both teams have their way.
A hard fought game. It was the Tigers 3rd game in 3 nights, with a brutal bus-ride. The Key moment in the game was when the Tigers scored 2 shorthanded goals in the same penalty kill. Kelowna had taken the lead, and the Tigers bang-bang took it right back. The Tigers controlled the first period, it was a fairly even game throughout the rest, although I might give a small edge to kelowna in the second half. Kelowna will only get better as they gel with their new players. The Tigers won 5-3.

New Faces
Hunt has 4 points in 3 games.
Burroughs has 3 points in 3 games, and a +3 rating.

Just watching both these guys play, I can't believe the value the Tigers got without giving up a significant prospect(minus hobbs who was never going to play for the Tigers again)

Burroughs is so smart in his own end. He fought Tyrell Goulbourne of kelowna standing up for Tyler Lewington, after Lewy took a big hit.  Even though Goulbourne wasn't the guy that hit lewington, Goulbourne had been a thorn in the side, and I thought that was a key moment for the Tigers.

The Tigers still have Owre, and Stanton out with injuries, both key players to the lineup.

Next Up Regina Pats

Looking forward to the matchup against Regina on Wednesday. I'm sure it will be fairly emotional for Burroughs and Hunt. Wouldn't be surprised to see if either of them go into the wrong bench once.

I agree with longtime fan who posted in the comments "I would hope that people don't boo Connor Hobbs when Regina plays here on Wednesday. As I've said previously he's a young man that I think he got some bad advice."

Nice win and good trip considering the issues getting out there. The trade and getting Marcus back has given the team another dimension and takes the pressure off of Cox and Sanford to carry the load. Lewington and Burroughs give them a shut down pair as good as any other in the league. Should be a interesting last part of the season.

I hope they dont boo him either but I hope we kick Reginas butt. Make sure he knows he went to a loosing team. Go tigers go

Markus E and Butcher sure are on fire, I am liking our new players too great trade! Burroughs is + 30 something way better than Morrissey. Go Tigers Go!!

Ouch that was ugly. The only thing I liked during that game was the play of Burroughs.....

Regina played a great game....the Tigers not so much...

Hobbs looked better than every tigers player

yes on D besides Lewington and Burroughs wasn't pretty back there, think Hobbs might have enjoyed that game

The back up goalie played better than any Tiger...Your point being what???
Every aspect of our game was off...
Just glad we got this stinker out of the way now rather than in playoffs.
The real thing that ticks me off about this game was the Pats giving it to Langhammer after the 4 goal. Beaking from the bench and not one Tiger took exception to this. They kept at it for the rest of the game.
The game was out of hand at that point and there was enough time to drop the flippers and give it too a Pats player without the chance of a late game misconduct. Send a message for F sakes...

This team does not seem to play for each other, the swift current gane cox was getting mugged by Cave who's twice his size and Lewington just watched

The powerplay is getting really concerning for a team expected to challenge. 14th overall doesn't cut it.

The Tigers have a history of waiting for the perfect chance, however I hate it when fans yell shoot...drives me nuts.

The Tigers have missed chances to put the game away early...or at least develop an initial lead. I think its time to go back to basics..2-3-4 quick set play passes, and lots of shots, looking for rebounds and tips. Putting Becker up front, and then not shooting doesn't make sense.

The Cox experiment was hot and cold, but it doesn't show a noteworthy improvement. He has only scored with traffic in front, but the other Dman could do that just as well.

Teams at the top of the league in PP always have 1 thing in common. Lots of quick puck movement, and lots of shots. The Tigers sometimes have very quick puck movement, but too many of their shots are because they passed the puck around for 20 seconds and have nothing, rather than there is a small opening and going for it.

Cox gave up another bad pass that led to a blades Shorthanded goal.

WooooooW They can't even beat the worst team in the league.

I guess its about time the Blades give some payback to the Tigers.

Any team can beat any other on any given night...but after getting their asses kicked by a team who sold their best players to the Tigers, then losing to the worst team in the league. I would call them pretenders not contenders.

Clouston needs to step away from the bench. Put Kruger back in..

A coach at the whl level using defenceman for faceoffs. I have a brilliant idea, lets put Cox in for goalie and use Schneider as the PP quarterback. They may give up 8 goals, but they should score at least 1.

Second the motion for Clouston to hand the bench to Kruger, Isnt clouston contract up this year?

Why do you allow that one person to always post a negative comment about Cox any time he makes a mistake? It's obvious he has an issue why are you encouraging it?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 6:37 you sure that pleasure pointing out every mistake that Cox makes why are you not as critical of the mistakes any of the other players make? Last I heard it takes a whole team to win or lose a game.

i think they need to find chemistry in the top 2 lines!! not sure hunt with cox and sanford is working 100% while hunt is putting up points as a unit not so much considering the last 2 teams we played, like to see someone else center that line and put hunt on 2nd line with butcher and marcus, then 2 real strong units, and others need to adjust to their lines and ice time still

I am more worried about our defence and goaltending at this point. We are scoring goals, we just are not preventing them at this point!

Trevor cox is a goodforward...we have great defense with great shots and moves...too many mistakes on the PP trevor...be better!!

To ananymous @ 946am dont blame trevor blame the coach for setting the lines! Go Trevor Go>

Oh Anonymous we have figured it out it's that fact that he's taking up a defenseman's spot that you are concerned about. Maybe leave it up to the coach's to figure it out. Perhaps if certain members of the d core actually came to play every night they would be relied on more.

Time to let the players who got the team their winning record play more! I love the trade we made and the new players but it would be nice to see our strongest players playing top minutes instead of babysitting on the third and fourth linnes( both offense and defence).

Maybe it's time to reward those players who play both ways on the ice with some meaning full ice time.

Let Clouston go and let Trevor cox run the team from the player/coach perspective. All hail TC.

ALL Hail Trevor TC TC TC TC TC TC!

Hey Trevor can you guarantee us fans a win tonight?

Teams go through seasonal ups and downs. No need to panic. When this team gets all players back from injury, they have the depth to have a successful playoff run.

TigerTurf said...

Tigers back in the win column. I guess 2 points is 2 points, but I think they will need to work on giving up 42 shots.

Anyone know why Langhammer and Staples didn't participate in the skills competition last night? Also Ast falls and doesn't return, another injury perhaps? He might have to invest in a bubble suit.

I thought that was a pretty unorganized event. You'd think they would have the radar working and had an idea of how each event would take place.
