Lethbridge "Incident"

A day after Lethbridge announced their intentions to bid for the 2020 memorial cup, there seems to be some scary news today out of Lethbridge

The Hurricanes released the following statement

------
Not quite sure what is going on, but I hope this "incident" isn't a life-threatening accident.

I found one comment on social media about the situation. In times like these, I'm always unsure if I should post links to information that hasn't been confirmed.

Now that a Newsperson has come out with the details

Someone threw gasoline into a firepit at a stag party these 3 were attending. According to Liam Nixon's tweet, 1 of those 3 is in critical condition.

Not going to say much out of respect for the family's but one of the those three is a medical incuded coma. Their life has changed forever due to silly decisions.

The Hurricanes have come out and said Ryan Vandervlis is in a medically induced coma in critical condition. Vandervlis had season-ending shoulder surgery last December. I hope he can recover, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Former Tiger Matt Bradley has signed with the Toronto Marlies.

Carter Sears is no longer with the Tigers as director of player personnel.

Interesting. In the 2018 bantam draft, it was probably the Tigers biggest draft in a very long time. I wonder if their were differences of opinions.

Looks like Fox is the new Director. Fox and Clouston seem to get along very well on the bench. Fox also has assistant manager experience in the AJHL.

Hopefully, that combo works well. Fox will have tough shoes to fill if the Tigers do indeed dress some strong teams the next few seasons.

Will Fox also stay as assistant coach or will he just be director of player development

Ryan Chyzowski has been invited to Golden Knights Development Camp. As has former Tiger Owre.

Just one assistant, Clouston will add another one if its a good fit.

I will be shocked if Clouston can find a good fit. No one seems to want to stay on the bench with him. Ongoing issues that the Masers ignore sadly.

Nobody drafted in the NHL entry draft this season. The blame for this goes on Clouston, he just does not develop players at an early enough age. He's too damn interested in his own win loss stat. Players don't get to play regular/high minutes until their late 18 year old season or even 19. Just pathetic watching this pattern every year when there are so many good young players that would be playing regular minutes and all sorts of situations on other teams. I think they call that development!!!!!!!!!! The organization gets paid from the NHL when they have drafted players, you'd think the Maser's would be a little interested in a coach that could at least do this for them.

It's not really Cloustons fault though. You win with 18&19's. I'd say it's more of a CHL issue.

Canada used to be THE market for NHL talent as over 70% of all registered hockey players were Canadian. That number is less than 50% now.

I'd argue that the US will eventually pass Canada, and become the premier place for talent within 10 years, due to sheer number of registered kids. Their USHL, NCAA path is also very competitive.

The only time I've blamed clouston for not developing younger guys was this year when he had white playing over guys like Heathcote and Anderson. Aside from that he does his job and plays old players because that's how you win. We always seem to have lots of talent in every age group and while it's not always elite talent we still have plenty of good players that help the team win. You can't focus on always playing the young guys because that's not how you win

Anon 9:57, Brown, Lockner, chyzowski, all 17 year olds along with Williams and Rybinski as 16 year olds all got lots of ice time in the second half. Both Craven and Clayton also played quite a bit as well so I don't think your comment really is true with last years team.

longtimefan he essentially said that with his first sentence

why does Lethbridge always get to host the first game of the year?

AMEN!!!!

The 2000s were a weak draft class as a whole, that is why some 99s ended up getting drafted instead.

The US had a lot of kids drafted, I hope that lights a fire for Hockey Canada to work more closely developing our players.

Honestly people just don't get it. If your good enough to get drafted your going to play top minutes on any team. If your not good enough to play top minutes on a team then obviously you aren't going to get drafted it's that simple. Development had nothing to do with it.
Someone argue my point
Would heathcote or Anderson got drafted if they would have played all 72 games. The answer is no. It's not that they are bad players but they just aren't at that level.
Chyzowski played all 72 games and didn't get drafted so you can't even complain.
I'm not a clouston fan by any means but how can you argue this.
Playing more games makes you better obviously but it doesn't turn you from an average player to a great player. Everyone has there own natural ability and there is only so much they can do to hit the next level.

TigerTurf said...

I think your right when it comes to the draft. If they are well above average they will get selected in the draft. The sign of a good player is that they mature a year or two earlier than their peers.
---

I feel your statement on development is not right though if we look at the overall picture that includes more than just the draft.

I'm not saying development has nothing to do with it. I meant development had nothing to do with it the case of our team with guys like heathcote, Anderson. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

"It's not really Cloustons fault though. You win with 18&19's. I'd say it's more of a CHL issue."

That a cover for Cloustons lack to develop. He doesn't win with 18 or 19 year olds, he wins with 20 year old goalies because he doesn't know how to develop a starter. Look at Schneider, he went into flames camp as an undrafted free agent and won a contract. Comes back to the Tigers and Clouston pine rides him and he loses his confidence. He can't even develop a goalie who was signed by the AHL properly.

Clouston cares about one thing and one thing only, making the playoffs. He has had stacked teams before where they were missing one or two key pieces to make a real WHL championship run but never pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, his coaching methods have drove players and a lot of fans. He may have more wins than Willie but a Clouston team could even hold the door for one of Willies teams.

Just crazy how fans forget what real development looks like. Will never forget the Hobbs getting cut so Becker could play 6th dman, how that blew up so badly and cost the Tigers a superstar is still incredible
