Rybinksi Part Two

I've decided to take a step back and evaluate everything. Let see if this trade request makes sense... First here are the public comments made by the Tigers and comments from his agent.

This was the New Release From the Tigers
http://tigershockey.com/article/press-release

Rebuttal from Rybinski's Agent
https://twitter.com/MHNMcCracken
- Ryan McCracken has a twitter post from Rybinski's Agent

Go read both articles and then come back...

Evaluating Rybinski
At 6'1 176 lbs, Rybinski has the makings of having a solid frame. He is not afraid to go into the dirty areas of the ice and he is not afraid to take a hit to make a play. He does have a tendency to play with his head down which leads to occasional instances of getting hit hard and slight cases of tunnel vision.

Using His Frame
As a 17-year-old he is still gaining experience on how to use his frame to protect the puck. He doesn't yet possess the strength to fight off attackers quite yet. He will develop it, but he needs more muscle and more experience. As of right now, he can be knocked off the puck which is normal for a 17 in the whl.

On Ice Awareness
His offensive awareness I'd rate as an average calibre for a 17yr old forward. He doesn't yet possess the ability to see the next play beyond the current one on a consistent basis. He does show occasional playmaking ability when he is given time to see the play.

He occasionally puts himself in poor positions along the board and has been hit hard because of it.

His defensive awareness I'd rate as slightly below average due to the slight case of tunnel vision and playing with his head down as mentioned above.

Offensive Skill
Rybinksi has above average straight-line speed. He appears to have a hard shot but is slow at getting it off. This will improve as he gains more experience and gets older.  His puck control is a bit inconsistent but made big strides over his 16yr old year. He has a long reach which will become useful as he grows into his frame.

Potential
He is one of those players that isn't overwhelming in any one category. He still looks a little raw as of yet. I do feel has a high degree of potential to become a force once he puts everything together. How quickly this comes together and how dominant he could become, is still to be determined. I would put money on him reaching it by his 19yr old season.

While he has shown improvements from his 16yr old year, he hasn't shown that he is ready to break out into a top 6 role yet.

In the future, his biggest asset will be the ability to protect the puck with above-average speed and a long reach. Once he is able to slow the game down he will learn to see the play develop beyond the current one. He will need to work on his shot quickness and keeping his head up and being slightly more aware of his surroundings.

Once he gains experience and those skills above begin to pop, his value will skyrocket and Rybinksi as a potential pro player will need to be re-evaluated.

WHL Potential
In his 18yr old year, he projects as Top 6 or Top 9 in the WHL depending on his progress this season.
In his 19yr old year, he projects as a possible top line or Top 6

Draftable: Right now he is a no as he is still a bit raw.  Potentially a very late round pick depending on his season progress and traits improving as mentioned above.   More than likely he is a later bloomer/camp invite type player and a player to watch for in his 19/overage season.

IceTime
He is receiving 3rd line minutes from the Tigers. The Tigers give heavy minutes to their top 2 lines. Occasional PP time. He has seen occasional shifts in the top 6 early in the year.

He may get an extra minute or two a game on teams that play their lines evenly.

Why The Trade Request?

While Rybinski's public statement alludes to wanting more icetime in a top 6 role, I largely feel this request was made  because he is in his draft year. He feels that playing in the Top 6 will equal more points, playing with better players, which will subsequently boost his stock.  He played LW before the Tigers so demanding a Top 6 centre role feels a bit odd.  Perhaps there are other motives but who knows.

Can A Trade Boost his play
Maybe..Sometimes getting traded lights a fire under your butt...He did show a notable improvement in the first 4-5 games of the season and that slowed over the last 7-8 games. Sometimes a new coach offers different insights or is able to connect with a player more effectively if they think alike.

Could a Trade Hamper his play
If he wants Top 6 minutes the only teams I see where he could jump into the Top 6 are Swift Current or Regina. While both teams were forces last season, I might be worried that he would be playing with lesser skilled players and get less exposure.

Best Case/Worst Case
Best case scenario Kelowna comes calling with the memorial cup next year, but Rybinksi likely won't receive top 6 minutes there. Worst case, he could end up in swift current who have no top prospects and will likely have less exposure playing with lesser skilled teammates.

Overall
I find it difficult to see a career .22PPG player jump into the .75ppg territory that is largely needed as a top 6 player. I guess anythings possible and I would rather see a player succeed than fail. I don't think many coaches or GM's would acquire a player to play in the top 6 based on those stats though.

I supported Gary Haden's request for a move because he was behind on the depth charts as a 19. But for Rybinski my thoughts are different...

Was this Rybinsi's Decision?
In this case, I largely question if this was Rybinski's decision, or if this decision came from hover parenting. It this was his decision because he was unhappy I support him. However, if this was the result of Hover Parenting trying to get their kid special treatment I would not support this at all.

Why This is dangerous for Rybinski
The no-trade rules limit acquiring 17yr olds unless they request a trade.

If I'm the Tigers this is a big annoyance. Expecting to have a big year next season I'd either want an equivalent aged player in return for balance in the lineup or an impact player coming back that will be here next season.

The Tigers already have 6 forwards and 3 defencemen for 9 players in the 18 yr old age group. Trading for a 10th player is a bit much for one age group. They won't be seeking a 19yr old it doesn't make sense.

If I'm the Tigers I might wait to see if there are other 17yr olds that have requested a trade. Otherwise, you take your time to find a player that will help them next season.

Perhaps something happens quickly, but it's not everyday impact players are being shopped and 17yr olds are available with the new rules....If his goal was getting drafted he may have just shot himself in the foot as there is a legitimate concern a move may not happen until the deadline. Making a trade request in early Novemeber was not a smart thing to do.

my Two cents....

A lot of journalism effort in my opinion waisted for a player that will at the very best be a top 9 foreward by his 19yo season. This is the sign of the times. Make the best of your situation and the rewards will come to you. The world is turning into its all about ME ME ME. A team cant survive and be competitive when inside the team there are players that are only concerned about themselves. Work hard and rewards will come. I am sick of this mentality.

Very valid points. He could possibly be a second line player at 19 on many teams. He was a hard working player who has greatly improved . I would trade him for a 18 yr old with the thought of moving brown who is small and a perimeter player . Brown is not involved in the play much and easily turns over the puck and is -9. As for him asking for the trade I believe Henry his agent and most likely parents played apart..but the coach/gm has a large history of players mostly some of the better players requesting trades. It is not all about the players as clouston plays it out in the media. The organization has a tradition of winning? What have they won..alot of first round playoffs and a few seconds match ups. The team is generally one of the smallest in the league and out in the second round of they advance that far. He doesn't seem to have the vision/ability to build for the future ...think tthe have a chance of winning it all every year. I feel coach gm duties are not working here its time he moved on. It took several years to get his brother out of the dub as teams and players finally had enough of their ways. I think this team and I hope I'm wrong are beginning to spiral back to the bob Loucks era.. which was hard to take. The argument that he is a winning coach is hard to buy ..as a head coach how many times to the league final or how many league titles. Look to Kelowna for a winning tradition though this year is a down year with many players turning to the pro level...the quick turn around in lethLethbr by trading so older players for assets and having the ability to see the team a year or 2 away.

I agree that Rybinski should be a very good player when he’s 18, 19, 20. I also agree that him requesting a trade now is stupid. If I’m clouston I’m not selling low on this guy and I’m waiting until January to find the best deal. Rybinski could go 2 months without playing which is dumb considering he wants more ice time. The belief that he is a top 6 player on any team is ridiculous.
I don’t want to start any debates on clouston or player development but last year I was so excited thinking about the possibility of having a championship team in a few years. Having Williams, Rybinski, Price, Baker, Van Impe, Fedyck. Obviously not everyone will always pan out but it’s frustrating to see a group that had so much depth and potential to now be broken apart. Williams, Baker and Van Impe are still going to a strong core of 18 and 19 year olds but we aren’t going to be as deep as I once imagined.

So much for the Willie D rumors. Hired to take over in LA.

Anonymous said...

Good for Willie... I'm sure clouston breathing easier now

TigerTurf said...

Good for Willie. I hope he can do well over there!

In regards to Brown I feel he is much better suited on the wing. Defensively I don't want to say liability but not strong and aware enough to barge into a scrum and tie up loose sticks.

Since he has been moved back to the wing I feel he is playing a lot better and more energized. He is also on a 5 game point streak.
-------
I agree that I largely wanted to stay away from the coach and developing players debate. It is likely a big consideration that went into Rybinksi's decision. I think the reputation of the past may be in the back of their heads, especially when they see a situation like Gary Haden work out so well for him.
--
I agree on those players you mention being a strong core. It sucks to see a player taken away from that group.

I am not a fan of Clouston, at all, would love to see him gone. BUT I have to say that I do not see it fair to blame him for this Rybinski situation. I would not play him on a higher line. He did not deserve it, not to say that he might not earn it, but I believe that you learn to play on the 3rd and 4th lines and you earn your ice time.
I hope that the tigers still have good depth down the road as Clouston generally gets good value out of his trades. I would be in no hurry. Rybinski put himself in this situation and if it takes until Jan to trade him then so be it. Clouston needs to do what is best for the tigers and that means getting someone good in return. Hoping it all works out!

Anonymous said...

Whole thing is strange. What player would ask for a trade because he has decided he is a top 6 forward. Except he is not a top 6 forward. If true, parents and agent are ruining the kid's career. The other possibility is the Rybynski's decided they want no part of the organization and used the top-6 request as an excuse to get out of Dodge. Who the hell knows!

Anonymous said...

Just finished reading an interview with Bobby Orr in the Globe and mail and a comment he makes is fitting in my view for Rybinski and others for that matter.

"Love the game. Don’t cheat. Don’t cheat yourself. Do everything you can to be the best you can be. And in the end, if you don’t make it, you weren’t good enough.”

Anonymous said...

The tigers are the most predictable team under Clouston. they will be fast, skilled small players that can compete with most teams in the regular season. Come playoffs they are to small and Clouston will never add that extra guy or two needed to elevate the team. The tigers have plenty of draft picks, maybe its time to run the team like a business and build an exciting team that the fans can expect to go deep in the playoffs. It seems like cloustons style of coaching and management has become way to predictable for most fans judging by the empty seats in the stands. If the goal is to just make the playoffs every year knowing you wont go far, then I guess the tigers owners an management can enjoy looking at an empty arena. Its time to bring some life back into this organization

Anonymous said...

Is it true? There are only 9 out of the current 22 players shorter than 6'0
Our shortest defenceman is Nassen at 6' and we have the twin towers in net.
So that rules out your small player comment
As a season ticket holder for years, I have been having a lot of fun watching this team play. They are gritty, inconsistent at times, but for the most part the players are fearless in the corner no matter the size.
Yes we are lucky to have two of the fastest players in the league in Jevne and Preziuso but can you call Steele a small fast player?
Where this year's team ends up is anyone's guess and I am excited to see.
But I am even more excited for next year's team, I think that will be the one going deep into the playoffs with a memorial cup possibility

Anonymous said...

Mem Cup. With this coach. Are you a comedian?

Anonymous said...

This tiger team has some fairly soft players. Anyone who watched Calgary pressure us down low and cycle the puck all night while the tigers backed in on the goalie instead of pressuring the point would realize this team has some big holes to fill this season and next if they are going to compete for any title. A players size does not always dictate their strength, as the tigers have some big kids that are just to soft. Clouston is going to actually need to give some draft picks up that he's been hoarding if he's going to turn this team into a true contender. But my guess is Clouston and the Masers will use the excuse that this league is for development versus a business, and a business that is going down the toilet.

Anonymous said...

Well they can all just watch their team and crowds go down the drain. It's happening quickly and they best wake up soon or it'll be too late.

CatFan said...

Tired of crap hockey. I keep going hoping things will change but they never do. These coaches are not getting the best out of their players, way too many turnovers and lazy plays. The exception is our goaltending which is great. Also, what has happened to our top line? They rave about what great leaders Hamblin and Jevne are but lately I'm not seeing it.

Anonymous said...

The last two games have attendance at 2880 or so - but the rink is maybe 40% full. I'm guessing that is the paid tickets (like moi, who fell for buying 4 season tix again) - not attendees. Very sad for the players that the crowds are rapidly thinning! Many reasons, I suppose, but poor coaching has to be one. Otherwise, how can teenage athletes run out of gas and discipline so consistently in third periods?

CatFan said...

Someone please explain to me how the ref could call a penalty after play had continued and put a team down 2 men because of it. Very strange! Also how stupid of the Tigers to start a line change in overtime with the Oil Kings in our end!!

Anonymous said...

Bad reffing tonight... Looked like a dive/embelishment from the GreaseKing, but although the refs were allowing the visitors to play, they made a couple of questionable calls on the Tigs. After drawing blood on Jevne, it was obvious they knew they were calling a crap game - so an evening out was almost guaranteed. Gave the game to Edmonton, IMO.

The OT was just a simple defensive mistake - and I think that Edmonton very effectively feigned a line change... Nassen was fooled and started to the bench without the Tigers clearing or having possession. It tarnished Sogaard's otherwise great game. But two of Edmonton's best contributors were indeed Crich and Lightbown. They lost the game for MH ☹

Anonymous said...

They definitely have Edmonton every advantage to win but Tigers didn't deserve to be in the game. Tigers are so predictable and need to change the team size and style of game they play

Anonymous said...

Size has nothing to do with it. They need to find players willing to compete night in night out. I think it comes down to having players that just aren't good enough and not willing to put it all out there.

Anonymous said...

Size helps to win puck battles and puck possession..watch how all the big teams skate..the big players of today are good skaters

Anonymous said...

Simply put the team lacks high end skill. I don’t think it has anything to do with effort because there is lots of guys giving 100 percent every night.
I’m sick of seeing people complain about size. This is one of the bigger teams we have had in years and yet people still think that’s the problem.
Also does anyone know how hard it is to find big guys with skill. Those guys don’t grow on trees and they are the guys that go early on the draft. Drafting kids at 14 is hard and unpredictable and it’s tough to just find those guys.

Anonymous said...

Most teams in the league do it well except here ... draft small and speed.. works until playoffs...big teams just push them off the puck and win the puck battles . Maybe really pay attention to the successful teams in the dub

Anonymous said...

I don’t know why I waste my time arguing with people here because all I get is mad. People on here act like it’s a simple matter. All we have to do is draft big and we will win all the time. We have 4 forwards over 6 foot and every dman over 6 foot but we aren’t that good.
The reason we haven’t made a deep playoff run in a long time has nothing to do with size. It’s becuase we haven’t been good enough of a team to make any noise come playoffs.
Obviously if you have a team full of big guys with skill then it’s going to be better than nothing but small guys but it’s hard to find those guys later in the draft.

Anonymous said...

You just don't get it.. can't be that hard every team does it but us

Anonymous said...

You just don’t get that size doesn’t automatically win championships. Skill still prevails. If you got both then that’s a bonus.
Don’t go say every team does it because there is many teams in the league that I’m glad I’m not a fan of because they aren’t good consistently.
In the last couple years I can’t remember us losing on the playoffs becuase we weren’t big enough. We lost becuase we weren’t good enough.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't matter how big or small the tigers are if they are soft, but the bottom line is this team returned almost the whole team and they for what ever reason are not playing well together. Time for a shake up on the roster and most definitely a coaching change.

Anonymous said...

I would agree that with this ownership nothing will change. looking at attendance, it is scary to see how bad things are getting every year. The tigers are one of the only teams in the league that does not have a sales and marketing position. I would say its time to market and get some people back in the seats. When willie was running the team, you could always count on an exciting team to watch. With ticket prices having gone up, there needs to be some real marketing done to get people back, and having one really good season in the last 8 years doesn't help.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone considered that this season is a building year? This team is young, look at the Dmen. Our second top pairing is a 00 and 01. Think about much they are learning this year and what they are going to be like next year with more experience under the belt! With Sogaard and possibly Bjorklund in net.

Next year we will lose Jevne, MacPherson, Nassen and probably one of the 99 forwards, my guess is Hollett won't be back either so think of where this team will be a year from now. Especially when you add Sillinger to the mix.

If you are frustrated and ready to give up on the Tigers or all you are here for is to complain about the coaches, then get off this site and move on with your life.

Anonymous said...

Nice glasses you are wearing

Anonymous said...

yeah heaven forbid someone look at the brighter side of things right?

Anonymous said...

If the brighter side is watching boring hockey with no atmosphere in the building, I guess I will join everyone else that has stopped attending games! The empty seats tell the story bottom line! Wake up before the tigers are the next prince George cougars.

Anonymous said...

Millennial generation, bandwagon fans through and through.

Anonymous said...

All we ever hear is, how good they're going to be next year!!! Is that like beer is free tomorrow?!!! This site is for airing your thoughts and if you don't like what people are saying then maybe don't read it.
The reality is the team is in a stalemate. Changes need to happen and not just guys asking out.
Always talk about a winning tradition, well just making the playoffs every year and going out in the first 2 rounds or less is the only tradition in the past 8 years at least.
Winning the league and then the MEM CUP would be a winning tradition!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I would love to see a letter written to the Masers with thousands of fans names signed, a kind of petition, to get rid of Clouston. It would be nice to see pressure applied to them. Ensure the news knew about it. I would think it would have some effect!

Anonymous said...

Anon 5:03, why don't you grow a pair and do it yourself.

Anonymous said...

From what I seen from tonight’s game it’s pretty evident that we just don’t have the skill to compete with the best teams.
I don’t like clouston or the masers but the reality is that we just aren’t that good. We don’t have a guy or two that can carry the team like rassell and Quenneville did last year.
People that don’t know anything about hockey can blame it on other people but in my opinion we just have to accept the fact that the team isn’t that good. I hate to admit it but it’s the truth.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:45 I would agree, team of guys that work hard but don't have any finishers. Two man advantage with a couple minutes left and can't score tells the story.

Anonymous said...

I agree but a change is needed

Anonymous said...

Agree. Lots of hard workers but lack the true talent to create plays and put the puck in the net.
I don’t know what to change or who to get rid of. The rules that restrict the trading of 16 and 17 year olds certainly hurts the potential of us selling.

Anonymous said...

They have lots of draft picks

Anonymous said...

I wouldn’t be trading those draft picks though if that’s what your getting at.

Anonymous said...

look at Kelowna if you want to see a winning tradition, and when things weren't going well to start the season they fired the coach and made the roster moves to turn things around. if anyone thinks this tiger team as is will be a whole lot better next year, its a pipe dream!

Anonymous said...

Seriously, what is your problem? It was a thought that I expressed on here. You have to lighten up man. You have serious anger issues.

Anonymous said...

Because the owner in Kelowna wants win every year

Anonymous said...

I kinda hope the tigers keep losing. I hope they drop out of the playoff race. I hope it gets real bad all to force the Masers to fire Clouston!! Then, with any luck, we get someone with even half a hockey mind and claw our way back. Dreaming, I know. One can always dream.

Anonymous said...

I have that dream too..but it will be too late before they do that

Anonymous said...

Most teams will make trades that improve the team, Clouston makes trades every year out necessity when players request trades. Sure he has got some good value in return, but it would just be nice to see him make a trade that actually improves the team. Clouston is know different then his brother Corey and look how well that worked out. I feel bad for the players.

Anonymous said...

The only good value he has gotten in trades was Hobbs for Bulenius and Gerlach last year. Otherwise he has not done well and when he thinks he needs someone he always overpays

Anonymous said...

I’d say he got good value for Fischer as well but there certainly has been some trades I haven’t necessarily agreed with.

Anonymous said...

I would also say that drafting Sogaard is looking pretty good so far. I for one was skeptical of the move when they did it but he's been brilliant to this point.

Anonymous said...

I would not be scared to have Sogaard be the starter and trade Hollett.

Anonymous said...

He should trade him ..he has value but he wont

Anonymous said...

I have been to a lot of games this year & here is what I am seeing: (1) We don't have the skill to compete in this league (2) Size is OK, but we don't have any players with a mentality of going to the tough areas- afraid to hit, afraid to be hit, don't win enough puck battles which is why we get pinned in our own end zone for far too long resulting in good scoring chances or goals (3) Night in/night out we are way too comfortable shooting from the outside from bad angles & all we are doing is making the other goalies we face look good- no screens, no one in front of the net, etc. Shoot to score instead of shooting for the sake of shooting. (4) Our trades have been awful & we haven't addressed any of our needs: Haden for Christensen- seriously, a 42 pt player for a 12 point player (5)We are getting out coached every night. Perfect examples are the Saskatoon & Edm games. Saskatoon made a system change in the second period of both games by stretching out the neutral zone & we didn't adjust even after they scored & had too many good chances. In the Edm OT period, the Edm coaches started the period with the best center ice man to win the face with the 2nd/3rd line, they made us skate around until we were tired, they changed to their top line, sucked us to the middle of the ice & use their speed against our tired legs to get an easy goal- great coaching, great puck management. We get the puck in OT & all we do is shoot from bad angles & give the puck back to the other team (6) We believe outshooting teams on the stat sheet is more important they good scoring chances. What other team in this league shoots on the goalies from center ice like we do? We need quality, not quantity!!! This team needs to be torn apart starting with the coaches...the players want off this team not just due to playing time, but come one...most of the players have had good coaches over the years & they know this coaching staff is being outcoached every night!!!

Anonymous said...

It’s been mentioned already but lack of skill translates to many things. Less skilled players loose more puck battles. They turnover the puck more becuase they don’t have as much patience with the puck, little things like that.
One thing I’ve noticed is they will get a chance in the offensive zone and someone will be open and either the guy with the puck doesn’t see him or he makes the pass to late and then that opening is gone.
I look back to butcher a few years ago becuase that’s fairly recent and he had a great ability to find guys at the perfect time or make the pass that the other team didn’t expect and that’s why he was so good at setting up teammates.
The team right now doesn’t have that kind of guy or a guy like rassell who scores whenever he’s given a chance. It’s not meant to be a jab at the players but it’s reality.
Ill agree we haven’t made that playoff push that I’ve been hoping for and that’s sad but we’ve been spoiled with always having someone on the team worth watching every night. Right now we just don’t have that guy.

Anonymous said...

Every team usually has one or two stand outs, and I cant pick one out on the tigers. I would be moving a couple of our 18 or 19 year old players as they are average at best. might cost a few players and some draft picks, but that is the cost to win. Every team that has won has payed the price a bit to do so.

Anonymous said...

They don't want to win just want to make one round of playoffs

Anonymous said...

Losses are piling up. If this keeps up I am not sure how Masers can not re evaluate things. Under Clouston we have to be honest that he has had a winning record. Always kept the team above water. Produced regular playoff appearances. But if the ship is sinking, if it is not changing for the better, the further they fall out of the playoff race with an older team.......will this push their hand? Attendance is falling, I know people who have told them flat out they gave up tickets until Shawn is gone, they know fans are not happy. There is always a breaking point, I am hoping that with a run of losses, very few wins in the next 20 games, could it be enough? Can that loser Shawn be gone?

Anonymous said...

I understand the frustration from fans but I can’t believe the over reaction from everyone. The team isn’t good enough and I don’t think the coaching has anything to do with it.
Don’t get me wrong if I had my choice clouston would have been a gone a long time ago and I wish the masers would sell the team to someone who cares but everyone here acts as if the team should never lose. It’s junior hockey and teams may go through cycles like this.

Anonymous said...

I think the team is not deep, not as deep as what we thought. A lot of guys quit on the team, going elsewhere over the past few seasons which impacts what we see on the ice. I don't think any team will win everything, ever. I would never expect that of this team at all. But I think we are seeing the results of people quitting because of Shawn - on the ice and in the office. From that the team is not good, we dont have grit, we dont have a pure goal scorer, we have a lot of nice guys who are 3rd and 4th liners elsewhere. Yes, there are some brighter lights - the goalies, the captains and assistants have some talent. The goalies likely have pro talent but no one else does. That is a big issue. The team is falling apart over the years from loss of players and personal, it does not fall apart immediately but takes time. I think we are now seeing it. I hope it continues until we see change. In the meantime, get Hollett to a team where he can regain his confidence, get some of our scores out where they might be able to make a run at a pro contract, use our picks and rebuild properly, with a new coach and a new GM (not one and the same) to make a mem cup run for once.

Chyzowski (C), Sogaard(B), Rybinksi(C), Williams(B) are all on the central scouting ranked list.

Looks like they've lost Elijah Brown to a long-term injury. They don't know how long and I haven't heard what he is out with.

Anonymous said...

It's ok to disagree just be respectful

Anonymous said...

Sadly it is hard to count Rybinski as he is not really a tiger anymore. And I would think his stock is decreasing as he plays out the season on his couch.

Anonymous said...

Hmm. Williams was rated A Prospect at the start of the year.

Kevin W said...

Where did everyone go? Lol. Looks like the Central Division just got much harder with the Lethbridge/Regina deal.

Tigers had a decent game last night.... Played a bit more possession rather than rely on dump and chase... Looked better and seemed to generate more chances... They need to keep that up.
Read an article in Kelowna paper the other day speculating that the Rockets might come looking to deal on a few Tigers to get loaded up for Memorial Cup... Will be interesting to see if that comes around.

TigerTurf said...

Looks like Lethbridge realized this was a better year than next.

Their issue is defence and goaltending though so Imagine we will see more moves from them coming.

So are the tigers going to be sellers? I am thinking we have a good goalie riding the pine. I think we have forwards who we can ship out. Lets sell, lets sink, lets get a good draft pick and load up on prospects. Make a run finally, make a run!

I think we are at that point that should be the plan....if we continue I same path, we won't do better. We've tinkered for several years and gotten mediocre results - time for a rebuild! We've got assets to trade to improve our team going forward.

I agree. Trade Hollett as he is the older goalie, also a couple of 19 year olds. If we only get prospects so be it, we will be better for it down the road. I am tired of paying for playoff tickets when it is obvious we are going no further than a round or two.

Heathcoat sent down, what happened there? Hoping to see some trades of the tigers older players.

All I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE on Heathcote rather see guys like Hopwo getting regular shifts. Also agree they should be selling now they ain't going to beat the Raiders in round 1 as 8th spot is all they will get. Now for the love of God can we plz get more size up front??? I like our young D and Sogaard going forward.

I wouldn't agree with selling. If PA would have sold last year they wouldn't have one of the strongest openings in the whl has seen in the last 20 years. The Tigers are in a very similar position.

The Tigers with a couple tweaks will be in the position to dress a very strong team.
------
While I haven't watched every game lately I see some small changes that I have been quite excited about. They are playing as a team and not as individuals. The biggest change I see is in players movement away from the puck. They are putting themselves in support positions and skating to passing lanes and putting themselves in good positions offensively. They are playing more like a team than a bunch of individuals within a team.
----

With Heathcote, this move is a bit surprising, purely based on numbers. They don't have any extra forwards now. I'm assuming that either Elijah Brown will be back for next game or they anticipate a trade with Rybinksi is about to happen very soon.

K Smart: Heathcoat sent down do to the fact he wasn't growing, just had no room for him. The Tigers aren't going to be sellers, nor are they going into a full rebuild mode and never will. The Tigers make the playoffs get past the first round and a loss in the 2nd round. That's how it's going to be. We had our chance in 2017 that team was stacked and they blew it. That's all this team will ever be, 1st 2nd round playoffs that's it. They don't make the big trades to go for a run, they don't sell/rebuild just maintain the status quo.

Libertarian: Sadly they won't be selling. Also, they won't finish 8th will be 2nd or 3rd in the division playing the Oil Kings most likely. Which they could win, but would get destroyed by Lethbridge in round 2 if they moved on.

The biggest reason nobody is coming to the games is the Tigers don’t have a marketing and sales person and they don’t do any specialty nights, or fun events. The biggest reason is no ticket options flex packs or game packs. Same old just walk up or the full season. Just the same old same old, they need to have some fun promo nights, give people a reason to come, not just because we have hockey. They finally got a family pack for tickets that’s a good decade old, just so behind the times. The video production team has gotten better, it’s been more of a show on game nights great to see, now just need to work on promos. Pink in the rink was a drag didn’t even have pink on the glass like in years past,Teddy Bear Toss is always so sad. It’s great our city donated some bears, but ours is probably one the lowest in the league for that. Now nothing until fan appreciation night and I think Don cherry night again.

I would like to see Christiansen released or traded. I don’t think he fits in with the team and I would rather see a young guy get the ice time. I understand he is a nice guy and hope he can land somewhere else but I just think the tigers need to move on.

Nothing will change until season ticket numbers drop next year .

Does anyone know the extent of Soogard's injury??

I just hope his confidence isn't blown after that world juniors. Denmark didn't score a single goal during the tournament. They face-off in 2 games against Kazahkstan friday and saterday with the loser getting relegated.

I can't believe it Josh Williams is traded. What are the Tigers thinking?
