  1. Been watching this team since their inception and I don't recall any team having so many serious injuries at one time. All these guys except Joel Craven (not belittling him at all) are seriously important pieces to this team.

  2. I have never seen such a depleted line up. Not sure how you can plug all the holes.

  3. Any info on who is coming to fill in for the goaltending situation?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anon 8:23, Garin Bjorklund will be backing up tomorrow. They haven't said if it's long term or not. Defenceman Daniel Baker, 16, has also been called up.

  5. The lineup the Tigers will play with tomorrow will be an average age of 17.6 years old. Very young team they'll be icing for the foreseeable future.

  6. Injuries are the most unfortunate part of the game and never wish them on any player, but on the flip side now other players should get the opportunity to step and show their talent. All I hope is that Clouston doesn't start double shifting his top guys just to win, because if that's the case (as per usual) they will have absolutely nothing left come playoffs.
Now is the time to actually DEVELOP your younger core, if you believe in them then they should be able to help get you through this.

  8. Bullion looked real good last night. Hope he takes this opportunity and runs with it.

  9. Congratulations to David Quenneville of for becoming the all-time assist leader among defensemen in team history.

  10. Thought Tigers should have had 2 points out of the game tonight but came away with none. Lots of losses, will be dropping in the standings if they dont figure out ways to win.

  11. Bjorklund is no longer on the roster. Kaden lane is now the backup for the time being.

  12. Off topic, but as I'm watching the women's Olympic game, here's the question: Would the Tigers consistently beat the women's national team? Presumably, with Queensberry type rules (no heavy checking/cheap shots) - would a good WHL team dominate our fair Olympic warriors?

  13. Can anyone remember what number Murray Craven wore with the Tigers?

  14. Mark the date. March 3 looks to be the tigers don cherry night!! Video on Tigers site has a sneak peek!

  15. The National Woman’s team prepares for the Olympics by competing in Alberta’s Midget AAA league which is made up of the best 15-17 year olds that haven’t moved onto the WHL or other the AJHL. They played each team once and had a record of 10-4-4 this year. They did the same in preparation of the Sochi games and had a record of 3-11-4. As impressive as our ladies are, they wouldn’t be able to compete with any WHL teams.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I believe Murray wore #10.

  17. Attendance has been pretty bad for the tigers so it is nice to see the owners responding with something for the fans with the Don Cherry night. I really think they need to do more but glad to see they have done something!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bullion got pulled. Kaeden Lane is in net. Tigers lost Macpherson to injury. Hasn't been on the ice in the 2nd period.

    ReplyDelete
  19. yea they said he went to the broncos hospital dont know why tho

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anon 4:03, it's not the Tiger ownership doing it it's a league wide initiative. Half the teams did it in the first half and the rest will be doing it before seasons end.

    ReplyDelete
  21. MacPherson's X-rays came back negative. He took a hard shot to the knee.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well that is disappointing, was hoping the Masers finally stepped up and did something for the team and the fans. Glad it is happening, will be neat to see.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I hope Lane is started tonight.

  24. Haven't watched all the games but a few thoughts...

Daniel Baker has looked amazing on the back-end. Very strong defensive IQ, something the Tigers badly need with their Dmen. Baker and Craven have potential to be future #1 Dmen.
Cole Clayton is also benefitting a lot with the extra IceTime.
    ----

Elijah Brown has impressed me a lot. Intelligent playmaker and likes to set up his teammates. Ton of speed with very good lateral ability. I think he has a very strong chance of being a PPG next season.
    ----------

I've seen good improvements from Baxter Anderson. He used to be a half step behind, but now is winning some of the battles
    --------------

Disappointed in Preziuso's disappearance. He started the season so well but has reverted back to last years form. He needs to find another level in his game. 3 Pts in 18 games when the Tigers need him to step up isn't that great.
    ---------
The Tigers social media feeds have been very good lately!!
    -----------------
I heard Hollett is 2-3 weeks from being ready.
    ---
The Tigers victory over Swift Current was massive! Very Impressive Win!

  25. I Agree with what you said about Baker. Also hoping Craven can make a return this year. Brown does have a lot of talent but I personally think he could maybe pass the puck a bit more. A couple times he has had chances and instead of passing or shooting he has tried to deke and he had lost the puck. I like the creativity and his willingness to take a risk but I think there has been certain times where he has missed the opportunity to make the "right pass".
If I'm in charge I don't think preziuso is on my team next year because we have more young guys that need the ice. Preziuso has speed but he just doesn't generate offence. I wouldn't say he hurts the team but I expected so much more from him this year.

  26. Can the tigers go far in the playoffs? If not could they in the next five years?

    ReplyDelete
  27. This Season: If they can get fully healthy They would be the definition of "darkhorse".
In 2 seasons(2019-2020) I feel they have strong potential to be contenders. Save up your money for that season.

    --------
    This season:
Fully healthy they are talented enough to reach round 3 and give their opponent lots of trouble. However, I don't really have any expectations for them to get that far because of the injuries they've had. They would be going into the playoffs with multiple players just getting back and a total re-organization of line combinations. It will be interesting.
    -------

I think their best chance for a long run is 2 years down the road If Hollett stays as a 20.
They look to dress an exceptional defence and goaltending. By my count 7 forwards are potential PPG players, with a couple more that could knock on the door. Add 2 Imports to that mix.

    1. Here’s one to chew on - next year they have to move some players - they will have to keep at least 1 16 year old new player so there won’t be much room for the group of “00” they have now - who would you put on the radar to be traded? I would have to believe there will be a few asking to go ? Your thoughts

  28. Is Josh Williams a bust?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Williams is not a bust he’s young and if you at former young guys stats he’s about the same as Butcher at that age..I think sometimes Williams, Rybinski and Anderson is the best line some nights...they buzz in the O zone and He’s getting his chances...just my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon@ 5:59 I don't understand where you're coming from? Can you provide more information?

The Tigers don't have to trade any 2000 born player. In 3 seasons when they are overagers' there will be a debate, but in 2 years I want to see a lot of 19's on the roster.
    --

Anon @ 6:58. Why do you say that? The average 16yr old scores at a rate of .162 pts per game. Williams is scoring at a .36 pts per game rate. That is far from a bust.

    ReplyDelete
  31. in your opinion, Who are the top 5 16 year olds in the league

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think trading a 99 forward that isn't hamblin would be the best route to give the young guys ice time for next year.
My opinion in no order about the best 16 year olds would have to be Krebs, Cozens, Byram, Dach.
I think Williams will get there. He has great speed and size for his age and he wins a ton of battles against older players. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he came out and scored 25 goals next year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As of rite now they would have 11 forwards that are 99-00-01

    3 dmen “00” and Baker as “01”
Pick your 2 imports and your overage players, plus throw in a 16 yr old u have to have on the roster for 40 games
That means a few Players to many does it not ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't see any 16 year olds on this team next year because we just won't have room. Guys that could potentially be on the team next year that would be 17 would be
    Jalen Price
    Corso Hopwo
    Nick Mccarry
    Daniel Baker
    Eric Van Impe
    Ryder Fedyk
With this in mind you definitely are not trading anyone in the 2000 group because that group along with the 2001s has "championship potential". Therefore like I said earlier you probably move a 1999 forward or two to make room for the young guys.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do we even know what is wrong with Hollet?
Also, Baker is a lock for next year, he looks like a vet out there. Hopwo was good when he was here along with Fedyk. They have a lot of talent in the pipeline. Will be interesting to see how is back goalie next year, will they go with a 16 as back up?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Any one know if Craven is improving? Still so angry about that hit. 5 games was a pretty cheap suspension.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Top 5 16's? I don't have a lot of viewings of the west. If I was forced to make a list right now from the East I'd go something like
    Cozens
    Krebs
    Maier
    Dach
    5. Schneider(BRN)/Robertson(EDM)/Williams(MH)/Barlage(LETH)
    ------------
    --------------
    Next season something like

    Chyzowski Hamblin Jevne
    Brown Haden Ostir
    Preziuso Williams Lockner
    Anderson Rybinksi Heathcote
    Steel/Hopwo/Mccarry/Truman/Chabot

    Quenneville Mac D
    Baker Craven
    Clayton Longo
    Van Impe/Fedyck

    Hollett
Lane/Bjorklund/ (Both having very good seasons) This will be a huge battle in camp
    Kaleb Mceachern
    + 2 Imports
    -------------
    Strong Season in 2020

    Chyzowski19 Hamblin20 Williams19
    Brown18 Haden19 Rybinski 18
    Anderson18 Heathcote19 Lockner 19
    Steel/hopwo/mccary/truman/chab0t/1st round pick/other prospects

    Baker18 Craven19
    Clayton19 Longo19
    Van Impe18 Fedyck18

    Hollett20
    Lane19/Bjorklund18

+ Add 2 Imports (Ostir/preziuso also on the books)
    -----------------

They'll tinker most likely. I don't feel like they will have to make a move. It will be difficult for a 16yr old to make the roster. If say preziuso can't kick it into high gear a rookie could take his spot.
    ---

It will be exciting watching them improve over the rest of this season and next.
In 2020 the WHl hosts the Memorial Cup. I believe Kamloops intend to make a bid. Victoria and Kelowna are looking at bids. If the Tigers were to ever make a bid 2020 would be a good year to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed. One thing you may have just missed is you have jevne on the team next year. I would assume shaw will take a 20 year old spot over jevne.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It would be nice to have him back. Make up for this past season.

I'm nervous that the wild have an aging minor league team with 15 contracts expiring next season. We'll see how his knee injury and 5'9 size plays out. For sure I'll be paying attention to their signings for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tigers turf I think your lines are forgeting your comments earlier in the year about coaches needing to develop young players.

Do you really think young players wil be happy to be 4th line or in the press box or 5 and 6 D or in the press box for 2 years in a row.

I think the team will have to make trades to give opportunity to young kids or more kids will leave. Med Hat is becoming the worst place in the league for developing young players

    ReplyDelete
  41. You're right, I see what you're getting at. I haven't really put much thought into next season yet, I was more focused on when these younger kids mature...and my brain was bypassing next year.

After training camp and the start of the season you're right they will be pretty stuffed. At that point yes, they will very likely need to make adjustments.

I do feel though their team will be more of a scoring by committee approach where the 3rd line is more of a 2nd scoring line.
    -----------

Preziuso could be on the block. perhaps they keep nassen as a 2 spotter, and take a couple Flyer picks on elite Euro's. Guys like anderson, heathcote/van impe/fedyck could be at risk for lesser icetime. 1 of Bjorklund/lane won't be happy. Do they give a spot to an 18yr old jaxon steele, who's putting up decent numbers in the AJHL? What about Jalen price as a 17yr old in a 2nd tier league
    ---

So yeah, maneuvering in those water will be extremely tricky and your right movement is bound to happen. Next years training camp is going to be a doozy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Agreed hopefully this team can finish the year and make some noise but next years training camp is going to be intense. So many players and so few spots.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would not waste my time on so-so 19s next year. I would rather see a young team with lots of 16s/17s/18s getting ice time with the hopes of making a team that makes it to the mem cup in a couple years. Trade Prezusio - he could likely use a fresh start elsewhere, give him an opportunity to make a go of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think the thing that should be said that no seems to want to acknowledge is that Williams is over-rated. He is physically one of the biggest forwards on the Tigers despite being 16, always played power play this year and has at best mediocre numbers. He is soft and cheats high. He will be a good player not a superstar. Saying he is one of the top 16 year olds at this point isn't being honest.

TigersTurf you are respected by all of us but I think you are being too nice in saying he is a top 16 year old based on this year. His draft position shouldn't matter anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I said He would be tied for 5th with a few others just in the East, purely because I haven't watched them all enough to make an informed judgment. That doesn't include everyone from the west, which I am unfamiliar with. If I had made a list of the league I don't know where he would end up 10th? 12th? 15th? 20th? I feel such lists aren't important.

At this point, you're right players like Krebs/Cozens are a tier or 2 ahead of him.
    ---
My personal opinion on Williams is that early in the year the Tigers expected too much out of him. He was playing on the top line, playing slightly over his head. He had a clear case of.... his hands were trying to move quicker than he could think the game.

After Williams came back from his injury the Tigers had more depth and are playing him in a role more suited for development. I haven't paid him too much attention lately, but I'll watch him closely tonight and give more thoughts.
    -----------

FYI Linden Vey had similar stats to Williams as a 16.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am a Williams fan, I think he has potential. Lots of guys develop at different times, I think at 16 it is unfair to write him off........

    ReplyDelete
  47. Williams is hardly overrated. If you think that then obviously you don't follow junior hockey closely enough. He started mediocre like any 16 year old and then when he started finding his game he broke his collarbone. Now that he has been back he has been playing 4th line and is really starting to look good. Only the very best 16 year olds put up good numbers their first year.
If you look at points per game among 16 year olds Williams is 7th in the league. Factor in that he had a major injury and he has been playing on the 4th line almost the whole year.
He wins a lot of battles against older players and he has good speed. He was on the best players at the u17s in the summer and I'm not just saying that. I watched all those games and many people agreed with me on that. He had 2 goals and 4 assists in 3 games playing against the best kids in his age group.
I expect him to finish the year strong and maybe score 25 goals next year.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Does anyone know why Bullion was not on the bench tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thought I would add another opinion to the Williams discussion.

He doesn't like to battle on the boards and in the corners. He likes to hang high and cheat and is not strong on the backcheck or defensive play. He doesn't make his linemates better as he needs someone to feed him and do the work. He skates and shoots well but for our biggest forward 6'2 188lbs, he is not physical. No one is on the Tigers.

He would not be chosen 5th overall today if the WHL draft were done over but he would still be in the first round.

On another topic, is anyone tired of Clueless and the dump and chase the Tigers play? How about how many breakaways we give up every game.

the most important thing we should discuss is about that we need a new coach

    ReplyDelete
  50. Everyone is on board with a new coach but back to Williams I have one comment.
You say he doesn't make players around him better.
My argument to that is how many 16 year olds make the players around them better.
I believe krebs and maybe dach(top two picks from that draft)I've watched cozens and he's a good player but I wouldn't say he makes players around him better. Only the best 16 year olds have that ability and I believe there is only 2 or 3 of those guys.
You can never write off a 16 year old. It's to early. For example
Hamblin at 16: 2 goals and 1 assist
Hamblin at 17: 23 goals and 24 assists

Chyzowski at 16: 5 goals and 7 assists
Chyzowski at 17: currently at 18 goals and 26 assists

Williams I believe is way better than both those guys were at 16 and the numbers show that. Obviously it's no guarantee but I could see Williams putting up 25 goals next year.

Would Williams still go 5th overall maybe not however that is the way the draft goes. Some guys develop differently.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yesh, tough crowd on a 16 year old kid who is doing well, has a regular spot in the line up, has overcome a big injury this year...... ease arm chair scouts and gm's!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree with anon743
Not only Williams but rybinski both 16 yrs
Are not hard on it in the corners ( I get it there young) - the turn overs from rybinski are quite visible time and time again and there is little or no back checking from both of them
Williams played on the power play and on top
Two lines for a minimum of 12 games before injury and his points were below were they should have been in my opinion , with that ice time and players he was with
Ostir will be returning this week more than likely benching Heathcote and Anderson
It will be interesting to see what player will be sitting in the stands if Shaw returns surely one of the two above
Playoffs will shorten the bench to 3 lines I would have to guess - not much action from a 4th line in near future

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree with Anon 6:00 PM. Williams is doing fine. Give him time.

    ReplyDelete
  54. A new low for Tiger fans, dumping on the sixteen year olds. Look out Roary, you'll be next.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Agreed Longtimefan

It looks like we could have Ostir, Nassen adn Rubins back soon, anyone know if we could see them this week?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not worried with Williams or Rybinski for that matter, both kids are excelling and will be impact players for the Tigers.

Lets do a quick review on the 5th overall picks.

    PPG as a 16
    2013 - Brett howden .67
    2014 - Justin Almeida 0.125
    2015 - Cole Fonstad .378
    2012 - Glenn Gawdin 0.33

    Josh Williams - .342

He is doing A-OK by me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. How is stateing the obvious “ dumping on the 16 yr olds “ other than the move prezzio comment I don’t see any thing negative
Watch the game tommoro and see who’s back checking and see who turning the puck over - hopefully no one

    ReplyDelete
  58. Does anyone know when Shaw will play I know he's back in the Hat skating and working out...as for Williams he's the real deal and will make a huge jump next season. Still not a fan of Quenneville's play in his own end, quite a let down actually. It truly baffles me that White continues to take up a roster spot he better not be one of our 20 yr olds come next yr!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Queneville's play in his own end may be suspect at times but he brings so much to the team. He makes a lot of heads up passes and just think how many of rassell's breakaways were a result of good passes from Q. He has great patience that may get him in trouble occasionally but more often than not makes a good play. Then you have his ability to shoot the puck on the PP. I'll take him on my team any day. You can't have a full team of guys like him but when you have one it sure is nice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If Q was on another team everyone in the stands would want him. Because he is in a Tiger jersey everyone complains about him. Same with Williams etc. It is the way of disgruntled Tigers fans. Nothing will ever be good enough, they will never be happy......they comfort themselves with b&tching.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I disagree with anon 10:31. This is a forum to express thoughts and feelings, you have two options read it or not read it. On the debate about Q, he is not the dynamic superstar that fans thinks he is. He is a defensive liability on the ice, however he has a good shot and the game is won in the defensive zone especially in the playoffs. Just look at his plus minus rating, it's pathetic for the points he has. Fans love him cuz he showboats all the time and that's fine if you can back it up.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 100% agree anon1208
If there is a issue that a fan sees and brings it forth to this group , it is for discussion
As for anon1031on the topic of Williams I believe the question was “ is he over rated” no body said he was terrible , readers responded with there opinion, with the weak back checking and not going in the corners , it’s quite obvious he wants no part of the rough stuff- oh he scored a nice goal just now
So basically readers have answered tha question that he would be a better player if he was to work on backecking and get mor aggressive in the corners

      Delete
    2. I'm going to Disagree with you anon12:08. Queneville isn't great defensively but you bring up his plus minus rating saying it's pathetic. Well guess what powerplay goals don't count as a plus. So think about all the times he has gotten a powerplay point and take that out of the equation. His plus minus rating doesn't look so bad no does it. It is a +4 which really isn't awful when you look how low a couple of our dmen are.

      Delete
  62. For the topic of rybinski turning over the puck 8 in the first 6 in the second and 5 in the third - once again not dumping on him just if he was to clean that aspect of his game he would also be doing much better

    ReplyDelete
  63. Jesus Christ some of the stuff posted here about Williams can be fixed if a good teacher pounds into his head.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ok anon 8:19, Quenneville is a 19 year old, drafted dman and you're telling me his numbers are good enough for how highly talented he's supposed to be? I don't buy it!! Compare his numbers to a Cale Clague or even a Connor Hobbs from Regina last year, not even close. It also indicates that he can only put up numbers on the powerplay (that's great), but again means he's an average dman especially 5 on 5. Watch his skating abilities, they are below average and if anyone thinks he's NHL quality, that's not happening. He will honestly be lucky to sign a contract and that will only happen because of his numbers, he will never play higher than the AHL and he will struggle there too.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Replying to Anon 8:38
I did not say that his numbers are good enough. I was simply comparing him to the rest of the team. No where did I say that he was Cale Clague or Connor Hobbs. I said that he is great on the power play which we agree on however I didn't say anything about his 5 on 5 play.
I know his skating abilities are not great. I never once said he has NHL potential. Quenneville is not a dynamic defensemen however for a whl defensemen Ill take him on my team any day.
You basically made up a bunch of stuff that I never once said.
Ill agree with you though if he was a dynamic skater he could have a pro chance but the fact that he is small and slow doesn't go well for him.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anon 11:56
Please accept my apology, wasn't intending to call you out. Just my thoughts were how over rated he is and he's getting way too much praise for the game he plays. His numbers are acceptable for the team he is playing on only.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I dont get it, Q is the tigers all time points leader. Overtaken Kris Russell, how can he just be acceptable?

On another note, really hoping Rassell can get another 2 goals, would love to see him get 50! Would have to think this guy will get a pro look at the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Any word is Nassen or Rubins will be back soon?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Rubins played yesterday. Nassen may be back for the weekend from what I hear.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Kristians Rubins, Linus Nassen, and hayden Ostir all returned from injury. Both Rubins and Ostir played last night.

    Craven - 2 weeks
    Hollett - 3 weeks
Shaw indefinite, but he has mentioned he plans to go to Minnesota in march to see what doctors say.

    -------------------------------

Quenneville is both a weapon that a team needs to win, and a potential weakness that another team can exploit. I think this is common knowledge to any hockey fan with any degree of hockey sense.

You need those guys to win as long as their weaknesses are minimized. (that's the coaches job)

IMO Quenneville is great junior player, but in terms of pro potential their is a barrier with his size/skating and defensive game.

Yes he needs significant improvement in that area if he wants to be a pro. I hope he gets signed, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen and he goes back into the draft.

    -----------------
I feel that Rassell has been trying extra hard lately to score goals, and I could see frustrations in his game prior to the Edmonton game, which is rare to see.

I hope he can enjoy the last 8 games and have fun rather than worrying about the potential stress of reaching 50 goals.
