Jensen Dealt to Moose Jaw

Medicine Hat, AB – Medicine Hat Tigers announce this afternoon they have traded 18-year-old defenseman Spenser Jensen to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Tigers will receive a third and a sixth round pick in the 2014 WHL bantam draft along with a conditional sixth round pick in 2016 from the Warriors.

Was hoping to get more than picks from Him. Or have him part of a package that sees a scoring winger in return.

  1. It's a lot harder to get a deal done when the player involved is siting at home on the couch. Thought they did quite well actually, interested to see what the conditional pick is. It's looking like Scott Allen will fill Jensens role quite nicely. Little rough around the edges still but he's improved a lot with the added ice time.

  2. Would have liked to see at least a 2nd, but I guess a 3rd plus a 6th aint to bad.

I like Allan. Still a bit jumpy getting rid of the puck very quicky, but in time could be very good.

  3. The Tigers are a quick team when they play well, but just don't have the finish.

  4. I think the Tigers did extremely well acquiring a 3rd and a 6th for a guy they could have scratched and not missed on most nights. And a conditional sixth to boot.

Jensen was a nice kid but never seemed to be able to reach the next level. His skating was okay but the puck seemed to roll off his stick whenever he was moving at high speed.

  5. I kinda wish they got a forward with size in return, or had him as part of a package. I guess jensen may not be quite worth a 2nd at this point in time, so its an alright deal.

    I think looking long-term...

I don't think the Tigers will make a move. They have those young kids who are 17: Butcher, Penner, Owre, followed by some good 18's cox, sanford, staples, stanton....

In two years that group will pack a very good scoring punch if they can surround them with good talent....

however the Tigers had guys like Hobbs, Bradley, schultz sent back down which if your building for that year it would make sense to keep at least one of them with the experience guys this year...so I thought they would be willing to make a deal because no one in this league has shown they are above what the Tigers could handle, but they are not quite their yet, and we saw last night their finish wasn't quite their.

They got an extra 2nd, and an extra 3rd.

  6. But it's always like that. Every year they have a good young core, and when they mature, they are not quite good enough to go father than the 2nd round, and they don't want to give up their young guys for next cycle.

For Once I'd like to see them go for it.

  7. From what I heard the Tigers tried to package Jensen with another player on the roster but the deal fell through.

  8. another game they outplayed the opposition, lots of shots, but no finish.

  9. asTigers played well this weekend as a hard working team, they came up against a couple hot goalies and our goalie struggling after sickness. They will find success no trades needed.

  10. WJC Stats

    Markus Eisenschmid 7 GP 1 goal, 6 PM, 14 shots, -4

Marek Langhamer 4 GP 2.95 GA, .906 Save percentage, 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 player of game award.

  11. Games are getting hard to watch. It is not for a lack of effort, they shoot and shoot and shoot. But we are missing Shinkaruk up front, someone with finish. Shinkaruk also made Valk better, who we can now see is not a guy who can do it alone.
I really hope we get a power forward prior to the trade deadline. Would possibly help the team a lot. And we have picks to use.
I hope Wapple is able to get back on track. A few goals he would like back. He has been carrying the load but will be good to share again when Langhammer gets back.

  12. Langhammer returning will be good to alleviate Wapple and give him time to recover. However, I still like Wapple in net aside from his shaky play in the last few games.
I heard the Tigers were still looking for a winger. Not all teams were interested in trading a winger for Jensen. Likely not a lot of teams impressed by Jensen so was a harder sell.

  13. The Tigers opportunities come from hard work and turnovers however they give the goalie ample time to get set.

Valk is probably your only guy that is capable of blowing regular shots past a set goalie.

The Tigers are not going to score if you don't make the goalie move, get traffic in front, or get in better rebound positions.

They don't seem to be able to get good wood on their close scoring chances.

  14. If this team is going to have success it's going to have to be with Langhammer in net. Wapple has been okay but won't be the go to guy down the stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed Langhamer is the better overall tender.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Will Langhammer be back for tonights game?

Also, I really expected the Tigers would make some sort of move. Even a small one to shake things up. They have a lot of picks and I am surprised that we have not heard anything yet. Regina has made a number of moves which makes me think they will be knocking at the door for the Tigers spot in the standings. I really think the TIgers need to add a bigger forward with some finish. I may look to trade McVeigh out as well, he is just not putting up points like he should be.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Barely beat the blades, when will the tigers make a move on the trade market? Any rumours of trades?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cox was out.
    McVeigh played well.
Tigers were finishing their checks which was different.

Another game where they had lots of shots on net, but no finish, or prime prime scoring chances.

Anyway the Tigers had a lot of pieces of the puzzle this year, but so far it hasn't quite fell into place for them.

I would consider anything less than a 3rd round playoff exit to be a disappointment from what they had going into the start of the season, and the moves they made last season.

They could still make it, they can compete with any team, but they are missing a game breaker and finishing touch around the net, and they are too small up front to effectively crash and bang. AHhk feel like this will be a wasted season..they had a ton of potential...I had visions preseason of something like this..would have been an awesome lineup.....

    Shinkaruk Valk Big Winger
    Leier Big Centre Koules
    Cox McVeigh Sanford
    Penner Owre Butcher

    Eisenschmid
    Broadhead/labelle

    Bredo Vanelli
    Lewington Becker
    Stanton Staples
    Allan

    Trade Bait
    Labelle/broadhead
    Mowbray
    Doty
    Jensen
    schultz
    2nd
    3rd
    possible 1st

    Langhamer
    Wapple

If the Tigers could make doty from a 7 point player into a 28+ point player...they could make any guy with size and speed and some smarts into a .5+ PPG player.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well maybe two guys in the top 6 would cost too much, but subtract one of them into the third line, and move one one of the third liners up.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would like to see Schultz as trade bait. From what I understand is that he is not that committed to hard work. I think he will be a bust. Hobbs was already a better player then him at camp. Trade him with a pick for a Lucic type player. That and trade McVeigh, Broadhead or Doty. Can get something in return for a combo of those guys.

    ReplyDelete
  21. People are making to big a deal about all the shots on goal as of late. Shots are good but when there isn't anyone around the net to capatalize on rebounds it makes the opposing goalies night a lot easier. Most goalies in this league are going to stop shots they see and the Tiger forwards seem unwilling to get to the dirty areas to score on most nights.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would like to see the Tigers trade Owre and Doty for a power forward with some size. Our forwards are so small and not able to crash the net.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon 1:00am, Lucic types of players are rare and hard to come buy. I don't really think teams that have one like him are likely to give it up with for an unproven 16 year old and a pick. You would most likely see teams wanting a good roster player along with Hobbs or Quenville plus picks going the other way and their is no chance of that happening. I can see the Tigers making a minor deal to add a depth defenceman and or a forward but nothing earth shattering.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tigers are building for a strong team when that new rink opens time to keep the team we have and develop the boys we have on our roster now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And darn, there's Lier over there with the Pats with 25 goals and closing in on 50 points.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tigers should be looking at US divison with how stacked Kelowma, Portland and Victoria are teams like Tri-City (McAndrews) and even Seattle could unload 18/19 year olds since Portland is looking like a NHL team again

  27. Was unable to make the game last night. Had to watch it on Shaw and have to say I was disgusted with the announcers. Could not say one decent thing about the Tigers. They talked about the Blades the whole time. They gave the Blades 2 stars and were having a hard time picking one from the Tigers......really? They won the game. Those yahoos should not be allowed on TV, disgusting to sports, disgusting to Shaw and disgusting to those who call themselves announcers. Guess we know why they are at the low level of Shaw. Anyway, Tigers, you deserved better then the sh$t they spoke of you!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would love to see McAndrews come over to the Tigers. Great player!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, Leier is having a good year in his 20 year old year, we all expected that. I do not think his numbers are a surprise. Dont forget what we got for him, I like that better. Plus, this banter is getting old *yawn*

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon 12:42 Leier is playing with Stephenson and Klimchuk in the softer Eastern division. Any player would thrive with those 2.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agree would like to see them acquire a big forward with some drive to the net. On the other hand, wish Doty would see the opportunity and be that guy. To the net man, to the net......look for garbage goals and take them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Does anyone have any idea what happened to Christopher Tai? He was with the team or 2 games and then what happened? It is a mystery to me and I would love to know what went on there.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Doty is the softest player we have on our team, so don't look for him to crash the net. Trade him back to Seattle!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Seriously? Are the Tigers not going to make one trade? Even a small one to shake things up a bit? I just think a fresh face in there may help. Disappointed is the trade deadline comes and goes. We have lost 2 players, would be good to get at least one new person in there!

    ReplyDelete
  35. And on the tiger trade front........... *crickets*

Something, get something, they have picks to use

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is bullshit.....the Tigers had a chance to go for it a few years ago with Vey, Etem, and Bunz, and never pulled the Trigger.

They had a chance this year, and never pulled the Trigger.

    Bring back Willie!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Calm down already. This is not the year to go for it. We are good but not great. We have a very good group of 17's and 18's to build around. I say if we trade we get rid of older players for some good younger ones and build for a run in 2016 when we get our new building. There are too many good teams ahead of us to think we can win it all this year.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Trade Deadline is at noon our time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would like to see a trade for a bit of a shake up. A young guy would be great, a 17 maybe who has some size. The tigers are a offensive team and adding a guy with size they could play him with the intent to go to the net, get dirty goals.
I like this team but goaltending and lack of snipers at this point makes us a non-contender but hopefully a playoff team, even if it is a first round exit.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe we can swing a deal for a few of those Canadian women from last night. Play with more grit and intensity than 90% of our team. Was a pleasure to watch hard work and determination. Been a while since we have seen that from the Tigers. Someone needs to be brought in to inject fight into this team. Our so called tough guy Doty was supposed to bring something to this team over Leier? Its not a physical presence...even a hit or stir anything up. Maybe he is intimidated since losing his last two fights. It's not just him, the whole team needs to step up and show an effort by doing the dirty work, being mean and hard to play against. 40+ shots on net don't mean squat if you don't score or win.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I heard from a reliable source that Daniel Wapple has been traded to Regina.

Leaves the Tigers down a backup tender......They do have christopher Tai, but he hasn't dressed for the last few games....

Robidoux can only play in 5 games untill his team is done...so unless Tai will be the backup, which seems unlikely....I guess we will wait until the trade is made official....

Everything will be released at once

    ReplyDelete
  42. But Robidoux is playing junior A in Manitoba. Even playing junior A can he still play in only 5 games?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't realize he was playing in Junoir A...then he can be called up.

I see on the website that Tai is not on the roster anymore and robidoux is....so I guess that solves that, unless another deal is made.
