Rumours Are A Flying

Last Edit: Sunday 9:36 PM
Check comments for recent trade news...1 credible hockey writer tweeted that the Tigers made a trade.

Rewrote this post

Thursday night on Brandon's Radio broadcast it was mentioned that Connor Hobbs from the Tigers had been traded.  Guy Flaming from the pipeline show on his twitter account confirmed that Hobbs has been dealt, but no other specifics were mentioned. Nothing was announced from the Tiger Camp either.

Yesterday the whl fans were abuzz with rumors that Morgan Klimchuk was also up for grabs and wasn't going to be a Regina Pat much longer.....   It seemed plausible for a couple hours that Hobbs and Klimchuk would be swapped, until yahoo's Kelly Friesen tweeted that Klimchuk had not been dealt to the Tigers, but would not remain a Regina Pat for much longer.

Edit: Kelly has since tweeted that the Tigers have indeed made a deal with the Tigers.

So people were putting 2+2 together, but in the wrong order.

Klimchuk To Brandon
Friday Morning Klimchuk was dealt to the Brandon Wheat Kings for 17-year old left-winger Jesse Gabrielle.

What About Hobbs?
Well this is still speculation, but Guy Flaming from the pipeline show has tweeted that Hobbs has been traded but the deal can't be announced yet https://twitter.com/tps_guy

So let the speculation continue....The Tourney ends Monday Night.

Trevor Cox Named CHL Player of the Month
http://www.whl.ca/article/tigers-cox-whl-player-of-the-month

Trevor had quite the Impressive December. He was moved to quarterback the powerplay and that helped powered him into the WHL Scoring Lead. He put up 28 points in just 10 games, which is just shy of a 3 Point Per Game pace.

  1. Another trade rumor to be soon announced Klimchuk to Brandon for Gabriel

    ReplyDelete
  2. One rumour says, the deal has been done for a couple days, the otherside says its not official yet, another side says HObbs has been for sure dealt, another says klimchuck is still in play, another one says he is coming here...

Now someone on the whiteboard says he has been sent to everett....

    ReplyDelete
  3. I personally don't think Klimchuck is coming here....after hearing he might be sent to Brandon..that confirms for me that it's probably not happening...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why do I get the sick feeling we are going to end up with nothing??

    ReplyDelete
  5. New rumour says Klimchuk has been traded to Spokane now.

Interesting to see if Hobbs has really been dealt or not?

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's the way trading works folks. The team trading the guy tries to up the ante by playing one team against the other until they get the best deal for their guy? There could be half a dozen or more teams bidding for Klimchuk's services and if that's the case I would agree that he most likely won't end up here. Let's face it, other than Hobbs the Tigers don't have any real high end guys to add to the mix. I for one wouldn't want to see them add Matt Bradley or Mason Shaw to the deal.

  7. Well Regina's Gm has an announcement to make at lunch time.

New reports say he has been traded to Brandon. Bruce Leubke's blog had a Klimchuk traded to Brandon post but since deleted....
    ----------

Still wondering about Hobbs....nothing has been announced about him yet...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well It's confirmed that Klimchuck went to Brandon, for Jesse Gabrielle.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I hear Hobbs has still been dealt, but details for where and who are still fuzzy.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm relieved for not getting Klimchuk. He will be in the league for half a year Hobbs is going to dominate this league for 2 1/2 potentially. They should get a tremendous package from teams for a player like him

    ReplyDelete
  11. So as it stands. What is confirmed is that Hobbs has been dealt..

Their is talk from reputable sources that the deal can't be announced until after the world juniors

Guy Flaming from the pipeline show has mentioned that Hobbs has left the Nipawin Hawks to be ready.

This sounds pretty exciting....Stay Tuned for Monday/Tuesday.

  12. I've said before and I'll say it again that I think Hobbs value is being over estimated by Tiger fans. Granted he looks like he has a good upside but he's unproven in this league and teams aren't going to give up blue chip players for a commodity they aren't sure about yet. Hope I'm wrong but I think he would have been dealt by now if this wasn't the case.

There is another rumor out there that he has been dealt but it can't be announced until next week when the world juniors are over which would make someone playing at that tournament involved.

  13. NHL scouts aren't underestimating him from what I've been told. When you are skilled everyone notices

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think Hobbs is going to be a stud in this league with his hip checks speed and determination, he will prove you wrong ltf, Hope we get someone to put us in the running for a title or it really isn't worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I also think Hobbs will be a stud in the league.

I think he is a very smart player. In his 16 yr old season he was standing up and throwing big legal hits, thats a sign of smarts/positioning being in the right place at the right time...

I think this year he showed some hesitations in the corners, the same type of hesitation Lewington showed in his 18 yr old year before he really took off in the playoffs that year...

I think that hesitation is a combination of off ice issues, and not having the drive to play, also feeling unfairly treated at the time from his point of view.

I see Hobbs as a defensive defenceman who has a great first pass. He will be a future #1 stay at home anchor who could develop a great 2 way game with experience.

Honestly I think he could step in as a 2nd line pairing on an average team.
(A championship team he should be a 3rd pairing guy, knocking on the 2nd lines door)
Next season (18yr) he will be a 2nd line guy knockin on the 1st line door.
19 yr old year he will be a 1st line guy.

  16. All of your comments may turn out to be right about Hobbs, all I'm saying is if this guy is going to be such a stud why in two months has no one made a move to acquire him. Is the asking price to high, problem with his family? Still think he got bad advice and should have stayed and played. His agents request to have him playing top four minutes was out of line.

  17. I'm in the mood to speculate, but if the player can't be named until the tourney is done..it leaves out 2 possible names that would make sense...

    Point or Lazar...

Find it hard to believe either would happen...will be an anxious couple days....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Just FYI if someone in the know comments on what happens it will not be posted...but you shouldn't risk it anyways and keep it to yourself, the anticipation is exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Could also be Theodore or Petan We have history trading with both Portland and Seattle. But Point would be a nice addition I must admit.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nick Petan, remember Portland has no first round picks due to sanctions levied against them. It is fun to speculate😊

    ReplyDelete
  21. IDK, Portland said recently they would be buyers this year, even with their above average record, and no draft picks...possible I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "I'm in the mood to speculate, but if the player can't be named until the tourney is done..it leaves out 2 possible names that would make sense...

    Point or Lazar..."

Just curious: could it be a player from a non-Canadian team at the World Jr.'s - or are all our import slots filled?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Could be from the USA but their are only 2 and 1 is an 18 yr old defenceman from Tri-City(Brandon Carlo). The other is Chase De Leo from Portland

Their was a news article after christmas stating Portland might be looking to buy, and the Tigers need some help up front, so it kinda rules both out.
    --------

I think the Tigers would keep both their current euros' so it rules out any other team in the World Juniors, unless Eisenschmid is on his way out.....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Logan Aasman a medicine hat native was scratched from the Everett game tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I just looked it up and Aasman has an indefinite upper body injury, so thats probably why.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So on the post game show Bob made the comment that Clouston would like to be a buyer this week but it depends on the asking price. He also made mention of an announcement possibly coming on Monday. Stay tuned.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Clouston pregame talked about saying for every big deal that works out 4-5 don't. They were also looking for the right character person. They made it known that they were looking to buy.

Ridley mentioned that they were close to a deal and something might be announced Monday...
    ------------

Reports saying Hobbs has left the Nipawin Hawks and did not play with them Friday Night. So that basically confirms the smoke.

Coach Frazer mentioned they were probably going to fly Eisenschmid to victoria to meet up on the Road Trip.
So you could take dealing eisenschmid out of the equation, if they were going to fly him to Victoria....

I highly doubt the Tigers are going for a defenceman.

  28. Please teach trevor cox not to give up breakaways every game!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Interesting Factoid. On this date 14 years ago Chris Osgood scored the first Tiger goal by a goalie against the Bronco's

    ReplyDelete
  30. How about Point to Med Hat? Not sure what you would have to give up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What was the deal with Stanton? Didn't play after the first? Rigby extra shot cause the injury?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Drisital now going to Kelowna as well, as reported by TSN. How can anyone compete with Kelowna? And how can they afford all these players? Tigers never sell out and I like that a lot, but how does Kelowna sell out and not be terrible for the next 3 years?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good management and coaching, Tigers would be a much better team if they didn't have players asking for trades every year

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anyone got any insight on the new Sanford/Cox crossed arms black power goal cele is about?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon 2:06, 12 straight years in the playoffs. Really don't think that coaching and team management has been a huge problem. As a side note both Hobbs and Jayden Hart have the same agent.

As far as I'm concerned Hobbs was given horrible advice. Save for a couple teams he wouldn't have been given top 4 minutes anywhere in this league until he earned it, which he didn't here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The X celebration is a take on Family Feud where they steal points from the opposing team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think its either Petan or Point from MJ who is not in it this year. KTN said they weren't sellers. Tigs have dealt with Portland before and move wouldn't hurt Port unless teams met in final.

    ReplyDelete
  38. well then keep up the X cele 3 per game!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. From Twitter and Kelly Friesen:

Source: Medicine Hat Tigers trade Connor Hobbs and draft picks to the Regina Pats for Dryden Hunt and Kyle Burroughs. #WHL

    ReplyDelete
  40. Why would this trade have to wait until after the tournament? If true, we would have something like 10-11 19 year olds next year.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What's strange is both of them played tonight against Calgary. Hunt with a goal and assist and Burroughs a +2

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'll write a post tomorrow, if this deal comes to fruition....

Must have been something else in the works...or a couple teams involved in the hobbs sweepstakes...hopefully that lowered his price.
    ---------------

If this is the case the Tigers defense is absolutely stacked.

    Lewington Burroughs
    Vannelli Becker
    Stanton Schultz
    Quenneville
    ------------------

Up front Hunt has been playing Left wing but listed as a centre....I don't know if they plan to play him at centre or wing.
    ------

    @catfan..

They have extra 19's but if they come back they have prime real-esate next age. If makes sense to load up on 19's if your going for it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I really don't understand what Regina is doing either!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. yea longtimefan I was thinking that too..

I'm thinking that their might have been a couple teams interested, maybe one of the teams had a player at the world juniors but regina sweetened the pot?

I guess we will find out soon.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Heard through rumblings that Regina wanted the draft picks as a big part of the deal. Do you think they will move for 1 more forward before the deadline?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hunt was playing the wing. I guess he is a bit of a bigger body at 6 feet 200 lbs. He performed well in last years playoffs.

Not 100% sure where they would put Hunt.

    Cox Owre Sanford
    Eisenschmid Hunt Butcher
    Ast Bradley Penner
    Staples Labelle Mowbray
    Fischer
    Rassal

Not sure if they will make another move. They have enough bodies now. Unless they go for an upgrade like an ast/penner. Don't think they will do that though.

    ReplyDelete
  47. They still need first line centre with Owre out for 6 weeks labelle is not the answer there

    ReplyDelete
  48. They could put themselves over the top. If they did that they would probably need to move bodies out though.

CLouston will have a busy summer with the 19's eligible to come back next season as overagers...Likely able to recoup part of whatever they trade out.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm hoping Mason Shaw isn't part of this deal. Think he's going to be a top player in this league when he's 18-19
