Atlanta Thrashers walked away from a $2.4 million salary arbitration award to forward Clarke MacArthur. It means he is now a free agent. He made 1.4 million last year. Atlanta fans in general seem very angry toward MacArthur. Atlanta gave up a 3rd and 4th round pick for him, and he only ended up playing their for 2 months. Now the Thrashers get nothing for him.

I really liked his offensive hockey smarts when he played for Medicine Hat. He also had a bit of an aggressive retaliation streak in him. I've followed him a bit but haven't watched him enough to judge his progress. I do remember thinking that his offensive hockey smarts/and skill were above and beyond most players. Given the right situation he could be a diamond in the rough for the team that does sign him.
