Henrik Rybinksi Requests A Trade

Rybinksi Wants Out
http://tigershockey.com/article/press-release

The press release states Rybinksi wanted a top 2 Centreman Role. The Tigers were unwilling to meet that request. It's uncertain if Rybinksi will still dress for games while a trade is being negotiated.

Rybinksi had 12 points in 62 games in his 16yr old year and has 5 points in 14 games as a 17yr old.
Rybinski is in his draft year and this is a move to get more exposure.

Thoughts
Rybinksi was supposed to be a big part of this year and next years team. This is so incredibly depressing to see a consistent stream of players wanting out.

Since Rybinksi is 17 and their are trade rules against 17's it will be difficult to receive equal value back in trade. They may need to try and receive an 18yr old back.  Clouston has been excellent in the past in getting value returned, so we will see what happens.

I've lost track of everyone who has requested out....

I think a lot of it has to do with him being a 2 line coach and hoping for guys to show up. He should accept responsibility in developing his younger players. Everyone needs ice time to develop.

There is a lot of entitlement in young players nowadays. Kids are expecting to be handed a first two line role without earning it first, then they quit when they don’t get what they want.

Rybinski has nothing to complain about. Clouston has given him enough opportunity. He played lots of games last year and he was a 3rd line centre who received plenty of minutes this year.

Sounds like he won’t play this weekend so I’m assuming he’s left the team.
I believe there are only trade rules against 15s and 16s. I’ve noticed plenty of 17 year olds getting flipped and I don’t think the league ever officially mentioned 17 year olds can’t be moved.

I agree with anon 1:22, Clouston is a 2 line coach and has been since the day he got the head coaching job. This man DOES not develop the young guys and therefore that's why they rarely have high draft picks in the NHL.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:45, in your view who should have developed into a high NHL pick? It's also laughable that Rybinski thinks he should be playing ahead of both Hamblin and Chyzowski. He won't be the second center on any team in this league at this point in his career

Anon @ 3:03 I see 2 17's who've been traded. Eric Fawks an unsigned player who has committed to the NCAA and Alex Moar who must have requested a trade(played in only 4 games with everett).

The WHL trade rules: Signed 15&16's cannot be traded. 17yr olds can only be moved if they request a trade.

Side A) Kids entitlements/agents etc
Side B) Coach is mean, poor management of players, plays favorites etc

I feel that you can argue each side back and forth until your feet turn blue, IMO it's a combination of both. Debating which side has more merit doesn't interest me.

Players that Have Publicly Sat out and demanded Trades
Jayden Hart - December 2013
Connor Hobbs - November 2014
Spencer Jensen - January 2014
Cole Sanford January 2016
Zach Fischer October 2017
Gary Haden October 2018
Henrik Rybinski - November 2018

**IF my memory serves me correct. I grabbed this from an old post and added this years players.

Henry Rybinski nor his agent requested that he centre on of the top lines as reported on the Tigers website.

I saw that Vancouver just had their top scorer ask for a trade.... He got his wish - from division leading team to basement dweller... That worked out well.

Rybinski plays hard but had not demonstrated top 6 play making skills in my opinion. I think he has to show more to get that role io any team... Hope he fares well

David Quenneville on Twitter:
Extremely disappointing to see whiny players try to dismantle and tarnish the reputation of @ShaunClouston, staff and the ownership of the Medicine Hat Tigers. The tigers continue to be a winning and historic franchise because of these individuals that have led the way for years.

The entire staff works tirelessly to develop young/older players while continuing to put winning seasons together along with sending players to the next level in the most positive and professional matter. I would not be where I am today without those corresponding individuals.

Any other opinions/views are a farce. Medicine Hat is one of many organizations that sets the gold standard in the WHL and makes it what it is. #MHTForever

From coaches pet ..worst dman I have seen in years

Anon 5:51 I agree!

Enjoy your ECHL career

Mark Rassell echoed Quennville's comments.

Q better be careful when going into the corners against Kansas City ECHL team. I think Zach is going to hear about those comments.

Figures it's a wee little guy coming out in support of Clouston, LOL.

everyone knew we had 12 returning forwards this year. The team added another 19 year old in Christiansen. This is the 3rd forward that asked to be moved. Heathcote did as well but withdrew his request. I believe this is simply an issue of not enough room.

Regarding Quennville he is the guy that didn't stand up for Craven last year when he was visciously attacked and concussed. He was the closest player to the incident. Now he is slamming former teammates again. His opinion is pathetic.

Rybinski was good for us this year. Best of luck! I enjoyed watching you.

He didn't stand up against Barrett sheen because he didn’t want to take an instigator penalty. We went on to score on the powerplay and win the game. I’ll take that over seeing Quenneville get injured because sheen would have destroyed him.

I'd be more impressed if Quenneville hadn't tagged Clouston in the Tweet. He seemed to go overboard in his criticism. Came across as a bit of a sycophant (brown-noser). Who knows. Maybe he's on the way back to Med Hat.

If he does trade him

Anonymous said...

4 years of coaches pet is enough..getrid of him if he comes back

Anonymous said...

Good on Q for calling him out. He is not a top 6, he won’t be on a top 6 other then in a basement dweller team. He has a lot of potential and could end up a top 6 player. But an inflated sense of self is not a characteristic of a team player. Q and Russell were both good, put in the time and earned their minutes. Rybinski she price himself instead of having a pout and requesting a trade. He won’t be drafted, he is not talented enough. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Good ridence!

Anonymous said...

Q was drafted and all he can do is shoot the puck..can't defend or skate

Anonymous said...

LOL Cloustons step sons liking Marks comments.

Anonymous said...

Guess what he’s got an NHL contract and I doubt he cares what you think or I think. It’s common knowledge that he wasn’t a great defender in his own end but I’d still rather have him on my team than play against him.

Anonymous said...

Quenneville plays 4 years as a tiger and racks up a bunch of points and he says one thing and all the tiger fans come out and attack him. Classic Med hat fans. I hope you feel tough.

Anonymous said...

Ok Shaun or Mr quinville

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:13, you should fill your team with whiners and guys who quit on their team, enjoy that, I am sure that will lead to nothing but success. And I sure he could care less what you think as well.

Was just watching the highlights of the Flames game and Rybinski made me think of James Neal. Neal was a top guy for Vegas. One of the best each and every night. Now with the Flames he is second and third line. There is no whining. He is skating his butt off to earn the minutes to earn the respect of the coach and make a statement that he deserves more. It is too bad that Rybinski could not have taken this approach.

Anonymous said...

I think Rybinski played his butt off every time he was on the ice .He improved alot from last year. Could have maybe gave him a chance to prove himself.

Anonymous said...

I agree everyone should get a chance. But they have played 16 games. Surely one can not be so inpatient - 16 games, 16 games is what he has played this year. In 16 games he feels he is better then the other 2 centres. Honestly, 16 games? I do not see this as opportunity not given. 16 games is so short, Rybinski only put in 16 games of effort and wondered why he is not getting more. I just dont think 16 games is enough to think that you could replace someone on the top 2 lines. He does not have the numbers to back it up. But if he had some patience, like 25 or 30 games, then he might prove himself. 16 games is nothing. He is self important and not a team player, 16 games, geez.

Anonymous said...

True but sitting him when his parents come to watch him

Anonymous said...

So should we get a roll as to when parents come so that they can play big minutes? Come on. This is the WHL, you put in your time. He is not putting up huge numbers that are convincing that he should move up the line up. Good luck findings another team that will pop in him the top 2 lines with his 3 points so far this season. Entitlement and an inflated sense of self with a dash of lack of respect for his teammates. Better off on some other team as far as I am concerned.

Anonymous said...

No we should not but he was not playing bad...this coach is all about total control ...took many years run his brother out of coaching in the dub for the same reasons. Just a matter of time and his is getting near

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:04, he was listed as day to day with an upper body injury on the October 30th league report. I believe that's why he sat the last game.

I have to say, I enjoy this blog, I think the moderator puts a lot of work into every post and I find it very informative.

But some of the comments kill me.

As someone who coached youth soccer for many years, something I loved, I walked away from it because of parents being overly involved and complaining about playing time for U14 on the sidelines in front of players. That mixed with the difficulty of coaching the participation trophy generation who expect things to be handed to them, makes coaching young athletes these days a lot harder than it used to be.

I applaud Coach Clouston and the Tigers' owners for their thick skin because if I got roasted the way they do after every minor setback with the team, I couldn't handle it. Do any of you couch coaches play the game? Or know first hand what is going on behind the scenes for your fire the coach, get new owners song and dance to be even worth listening to?

he lives with a parent cause they take turns living in town every 2 weeks in a rented apartment. So a parent is here ALL the time. He does not live with other players or a billet. Samething was done with Shinkaruk.

There is no excuse for demanding to be on the top 2 lines as a 17 year old. You are going to take our top 2 scorers place for what reason exactly? Many of our star players in the past didn't really hit their prime until at least their 18 year old year. If Rubinski had put in the time this year he could very well have been top 6 next year. Most teams' top 6 players are 18 and 19 years old. I'm not necessarily a big fan of Clouston but I really feel this is a disturbing trend in sports and a sense of entitlement that players have now. Hopefully now Baxter Anderson will get more time, I really like this kid!

Anonymous said...

Has the player, the agent or the parents actually said anything publically? Or, all we know is what Clouston said again?

Anonymous said...

Have to disagree with you Catfan.

Chyzowski had 12 points as a 16 year old just like Rybinski. The Tigers had a lot of turnover last year so Chyzowski was given the chance to be the second line center at age 17. I'm guessing Rybinski understood that this team is set at forward for a few years and just wants a different opportunity. Its not about a kid feeling entitled. Everyone knows the team will continue with Hamblin and Chyzowski next year. They also have Brown, Christiansen and Andersen.

All this drama is really about the fact that 4 forwards have asked for a trade this fall.
Haden - wanted a change of scenery.

Heathcote - because he was stuck on 4th line as a 18 year old and at times a healthy scratch. I understood he withdrew the request but it was about the same issue of opportunity.

Price also had to ask for a trade to Everett. Like Rybinski he was 17 and its the only way he could be traded. We didn't make a lot of noise on that trade request because Rybinski had a lot more upside and because the Tigers didn't put out such a weird press release with a player's head missing.

For good young prospects I think you have to have room created by turnover or you have to make room. In this case we have a lot of forward depth so there isn't much room. Hopefully the Coach picks the right guys.

The Vancouver Giants showed class by thanking Malm and wishing him well. The Tigers took the lower road and tried to embarrass a kid with the most garbled press release ever. Don't think that was the right ting to do.

I think we might have other trade requests this year. Hopwo, Anderson, Steele and Heathcote are all older and aren't playing much. Adding a 19 year old Christiansen was bad for all of them. Also don't be surprised with Hollett either.

On another note, hope we win tonight

Anonymous said...

I disagree. The giants made the trade because there was a deal to be made.
I’m glad the tigers made this public. If a guy wants to walk out on his team and demand more ice time we deserve to hear about. Him walking out is a disrespect to all his teammates. We shouldn’t be left in the dark about this.

This team is so Groundhog. Every year, the same: Mediocre results, overly small teams that get exposed in playoffs, incessant inner turmoil and back-door bickering and Clouston and ownership at the centre of it all. It's actually surprising they haven't started a downward spiral. Maybe that's next.

Anonymous said...

I think it is about to start

Anonymous said...

So many players asking for a trade is just is not entitled players..

Anonymous said...

So the Rybinski camp is saying their player wants a top six forward spot and don't see it happening here. My question is, what ever happened to trying to earn the spot and not having it handed over. No guarantees it's going to happen somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

Agreed but why do so many players want out of here

Anonymous said...

There is one common denominator in it all...

Clouston - time to get new blood in there
