Tigers Aquire Defenceman

Trade Details
Tigers Aquire Defenceman Nick Perna from Portland for a 4th round 2020 draft pick. Perna is in his 18yr old year. Last season he recorded 10 points in 40 games as a 17yr old.

Nick Perna

Thoughts
This is interesting as this brings the Tigers defensive group to 8 players. One wonders if someone like Damon Agyeman might be sent down as he has only dressed in 7 games, whereas Krebs has dressed in 22.

Nick Perna has also only dressed in 7 games with portland so this looks like Portland didn't have enough room in their lineup for him and the Tigers were looking for some slightly older depth.

Scouting Report
I've read that he is a tall rangy guy with a good stick. He is very calm and poised and will take a hit to make a play. A guy with a good first pass and noted as a puck-moving defenceman who needs to get stronger physically, but has a very intelligent and active stick.

Why another Dman? I thought these were interesting acquisitions as I thought we might try to grab a bit of talent.
Regardless, the boys are playing real well. Good hustle and no panic in their game. Have been really enjoying watching tiger hockey!

Wow! What a game tonight! Was nice to see the tigers really take it to the Hurricanes. Looking forward to the game in Lethbridge! Keep it rolling boys!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the Tigers win last night! They are playing a fast game, beautiful passing and adding some physicality they lacked before. I don't think Lethbridge was ready for the Tigers last night as it is a different team than when they last played. They've been desicively beating top teams this last few weeks... Wonder when anyone will notice and give them some recognition? I'm talking league, CHL and media...

The lines last night seemed to really mesh well! All 4 lines were playing great minutes which was awesome to see. I really like the combo of Brown, Lockner and Danielson - not sure if they were just testing it out last night but they play really well together. Also I have been so impressed with Kemp. Incredible talent! Hamblin continues to wow and I am really hoping he gets some more NHL attention! I am also impressed with the 2 new trades McNabb and Perna. It is nice to get some good size and speed out there. I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years now and this is one of the most exciting years I have seen. Would love to see the stands fuller but hopefully that comes. Also, I would buy a special 3rd jersey - would love to see one! Keep it up Tigers!!!

That was an amazing game! Tigers completely outworked them without Mads, longo, brinkman in the lineup. It could have been a double-digit game.

Gavlas threw some clean big hits, the 4th line was involved with 2 goals. The Chyz,Kemp, Sillinger line was outstanding. Hamblin was 13/15 in faceoffs with a lot of them coming against Dylan Cozens. The 3rd defensive unit of Krebs and Perna was a combined +6 with each scoring a goal. Their powerplay is clicking and sits clear as the #1 powerplay in the league.

The last handful of games I feel Van Impe has been one of the better defensemen on the team. Elijah Brown has seemed to find his stride as a pure playmaker type and his creativity is really shining lately, especially on the powerplay

Lethbridge made quite a few positional and overcommital mistakes that cost them dearly and the Tigers were recognizing and eating those up on the fly. The canes looked like they had no energy left at the end of the game and were showing signs of frustration as early as the first period.
------

When the Tigers were on that month-long road trip, towards the end they looked like they were coming down from a hot streak. They had that week off for practice and ever since they've been on fire.
----

They have a very tough schedule before the end of the Christmas break. They still play Lethbridge, Everett, Prince Albert, Edmonton. Throw in saskatoon who played them very hard last game and Red Deer who despite their record has 3 points in 3 games against them.

Then right after Christmas, they have 3 straight games with Calgary.

Tigers ranked 9th in the CHL this week.

Just PA and Everett ahead of them from the WHL.

Tigers looked good again in Lethbridge!! Not sure how Lethbridge got the goal where Bjorkland was clearly interferes with but regardless the tigers stayed focused and got the job done. The new acquisitions look better then their resumes suggested!

Holmstrom in the NHL was famous for that sort of play. Hard to move and a big distraction. Very tough for a goaltender to track the puck. They scored earlier in the season off a very similar play that is borderline interference.

I thought the Hurricanes were extremely amped to start the game. They were flying in the first period. They also had 5100 fans pack their rink which was their 2nd highest attended game this season. (Their most attended game was a military appreciation night)

I thought the puck luck was not on the Tigers side early in the game. Some of the calls were not going their way. Add to that 2 bench minors for too many men, and they spent a lot of time on special teams play and killing penalties. The Lockner fight saw the Tigers get penalized for an instigator even though Lockner was the guy who got cross-checked initially in the face.

A bit unlucky, but somehow they still found a way to win.

Saturday Night - The Two Top teams in the league faceoff.
Everett and the Tigers have the league's best-winning percentage.

Everett has the league's best defense and the Tigers have the league's best offense.

Must have been a helluva exciting game! Two fights! And what did Chyzowski do to get himself booted from the game?

Big trade with the Giants in the works it sounds like. Stay tuned....

To the tigers: Plouffe, Sjvesousky, 2 3rds. To Van: Prezizuo, Longo, 1st and 5th.
Well, guess the tigers have thrown their hat in the ring. We are going for it.

LOVE THIS MOVE!

Will miss Prezuso and Longo but this is going to be a great long term move for the team. Loading up for a run! Something we don't see often here!
