Oil Kings Shutout Tigers 3-0
Very Brief
Thoughts
I thought the Tigers played a pretty good hockey game. The Oil Kings came out of the gate fast with Curtis Lazar scoring their first goal 32 seconds into the game
Lazar potted his second squeaking it through Lanigan's pads on a bad angle shot and completed his hat-trick with an empty netter.
I thought the Tigers got better as the game wore on and matched the Oil Kings chance for chance in the second and third periods. The difference was the play of Oil King netminder Laurent Brossoit, and the Tigers being unable to score on their powerplays.
The Oil Kings took 7 penalties against the Tigers, including a full 2 minute 5 on 3, but the Tigers couldn't solve Brossoit.
The Tigers played well in all 3 games this weekend, unfortunately they were only able to come up with 2 out of 6 points. The effort was their and that's what we as fans like to see.
Up Next
Their schedule doesn't get any easier as they play another 3 games in 3 nights Starting with a Rematch against the Oil Kings Friday in Edmonton and back home Saturday and Sunday against Calgary, and Red Deer.

Tigers Deflate Hurricanes 10-3
Won't be recapping the goals their were too many of them :)
Ty Stanton
Ty Stanton blocked a shot and was taken out of the game. Questionable for Tomorrow against the Oil Kings.
Game Summary
The game was pretty close for the first half of the game. The Tigers switched up their lines in the first period and the first shift after Lethbridge Scored.
Marek Langhamer stopped about 4 breakaways. Lethbridge took a bunch of undisciplined roughing/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after the whistle and weren't helping themselves out.
The momentum turned for good with a minute left in the second period. Curtis Valk and Miles Koules scored 2 goals in the last minute of play to suddenly take a 5-3 lead into the third period and they didn't stop their.
The third period was a slaughterfest as Lethbridge could barely get out of their own zone. It seemed like the play was slowed down half speed as 90% of the loose pucks were cleanly won by the Tigers forwards.
The Tigers gave a lot of icetime to the young lines of Butcher, Labelle, and Owre and the 4th line got 2 goals.
Thoughts
I liked how Clouston switched up his lines early into the first period. It seemed to create a lot of confusion for the Lethbridge coach. I also liked how they choose to play Langhamer tonight.
It seemed like every other whistle Lethbridge coaches would delay sending players on the ice. Their were probably half a dozen times times where the linesman had to sort out the players back to the bench after a ridiculously late change. Even on icing calls Preston would quickly try and get a guy to change to get at least one set of fresh legs on the ice.
Langhamer was brilliant on the breakaways but he had a tough time fending off rebounds that bounced in front after hitting the boards.
The 4th line looked absolutely dynamite tonight. If they keep playing like that their are going to keep scoring goals at will.
Jake Doty scored another goal tonight, that's 7 goals in his last 11 games. He has scored more goals in his last 11 games, than his previous 163 games combined....
I have liked what I have seen from this team ever since they got clobbered by Saskatoon 7 games ago on January 1st. They changed up their forecheck and have been more aggressive and it has worked for them.
Next Up: Edmonton comes calling Sunday at the Arena. It will be the 3rd game in 3 nights for both teams, however Edmonton will also have a 5+ hour drive

Kootenay Defeats Tigers 7-5
Kootenay Last in the Eastern Conference is on a 6 game winning streak.
First Period
Kootenay had the Tigers on their heels for the first 15 minutes of the period. 75% of the play was in the Tigers end. They would recover the puck then turn it over right away with lots of pressure from Kootenay.
Kootenay scored first after a Tiger crashed into the Kootenay goal, and two others went behind the net. It gave Kootenay a 4 on 2, which they turned into a 3 on 2. Sam Reinhart popped a shot about a foot and a half off the ice blocker side on Lanigan from the top of the circle. 1-0 Kootenay
Cole Sanford changed directions and attempted to go around a Kootenay defender who threw his arms up with a high bodycheck away from the puck. The ref gave Sanford an interference penalty. I didn't think it was a penalty.
On the powerplay the puck skittered towards the Tigers net after a few players clashed their sticks together for the puck. Lanigan would reach out to grab it, but Kootenay's Luke Philp would reach and just get the tip of his stick on it to poke it past Lanigan's pad. 2-0 Kootenay
The Tigers would start to get some pressure. Koules hit the crossbar, Shinkaruk and Pearce missed half open empty nets.
Kootenay would come back the other way and Joey Leach would put a wrist shot toward the goal but it would get deflected to the side of the net. Sam Reinhart was right their to put a shot on the half empty net. 3-0 Kootenay
The Tigers finally got on the board with a lucky shot. Logan McVeigh would attempt a pass from behind the goal-line and the puck would bounce in off a Kootenay Defender. 3-1 Kootenay
The Tigers were outshot 11-7. The Tigers didn't play horrible but they kept turning the puck over just inside their blueline, and it resulted in Kootenay getting some bounces.
2nd Period
Crazy Period of hockey
The Tigers would score 3 times in 4 minutes to take a 4-3 lead early in the second.
Boston Leier would strip Jagger Dirk of the puck near center and would walk in alone. Mackenzie Slapski would make a move to the wrong side of the net just as Boston Leier fired a low blocker side shot on net. 3-2 Kootenay
22 seconds later on the same shift Boston Leier would dig out a puck that Mackenzie Slapski misplayed behind the net. Leier passed it out front to Elgin Pearce who only had a defenceman blocking the front of the net. 3-3 TIE
2.5 minutes later Elgin would strike again. Jake Doty flattened an Ice DMAN in the corner and in the opposite corner Trevor Cox would flutter a half blocked back-hand pass in front of the net. Pearce would take a whack with the puck a few inches off the ice and ended Slapski's night with a goal.
4-3 Tigers
Kootenay would build some momentum and pressure after a dumb penalty by Tyler Lewington hitting a guy from behind away from the puck.
On the powerplay Sam Reinhart fed a pass cross the blueline to Joey Leach. Leach one-timed a low shot on net and Brock Montgomery would tip it passed Lanigan 4-4 TIE
Zach Hodder would blow a tire at the blueline and Kootenay would get a 2 on 1. Levi Cable would hesitate with the puck and somehow slid it underneath the Tigers defenceman who had sprawled out to block the pass. Brock Montgomery would squeak a shot past Lanigan's shoulder. 5-4 Kootenay
A really high paced game. The Tigers started out the period on fire, but late in the period Kootenay got their momentum back.
Tigers outshot Kootenay 17-13. Two Period total of 24 shots apiece.
3rd Period
The Tigers would tie up the game on the powerplay off another nice bounce. Curtis Valk went to pass the puck cross the ice and it hit a Kootenay defender and went into the net. 5-5 TIE
Tyler Lewington could get called for hooking on a scramble down low. Hi stick was held by one hand horizontally but right into the Kootenay players mid-section. The refs looks for these typ of infractions and Lewington heads to the box.
Shorthanded newcomer Zach Hodder looses his stick and it allows Brock Montgomery room to power past him. Montgomery would drive to the net and put the puck passed Lanigan along the ice completing his hat-trick 6-5 Kootenay
The Tigers would get a lot of pressure with the goalie pulled, but Kootenay would get a breakaway and Sam Reinhart would also complete a hat-trick. 7-5 Kootenay
Thoughts
Kootenay doesn't look like a last place team. Tyler Lewington took a couple Ill-timed penalties which completely swung the momentum after Kootenay scored on both. Zach Hodder also blew a tire, and lost his stick and both plays resulted in Kootenay Goals. Hunter Shinkaruk and Curtis Valk were very quiet, but the Tigers got a lot of production from the second and third lines.

Tigers Shutout Giants 4-0
Pre-Game
The Giants sat out 20 year old overager Trevor Cheek. Be interesting to see if he is on his way to Edmonton.
Newly aquired Rob Trzonkowski suffered an injury in his third game with the Giants Sunday Night.
They were missing their captain Wes Vannieuwenhuizen out with a long injury.
The Giants were also playing with 3 callups in their roster.
They traded Kale Kessy to kamloops last week.
Taylor Vickerman was out with a one game suspensions.
Tigers Had Derek Ryckman, and Kyle Becker out with injuries. The Tigers will evaluate Ryckman tomorrow, and Becker will be out sometime with cough "the flu"
I thought the Giants played really hard tonight and showed a good commitment to their defense for the first half of the game. I thought the Tigers played well enough to win, but I thought their were a couple players who had "off nights"
New Guys
Got our first real looks at Hodder and McVeigh. Hodder looks like he can skate with the wind, reminds me of former tiger Jace Coyle in some ways.
McVeigh took a couple penalties and didn't make a great first impression. But when your placed on the top line with Shinkaruk and Valk, for a new guy its hard to fit in because you don't want to mess up their chemistry....Give him some time and he will fit in nicely.
Game Thoughts
I thought Trevor Cox was playing better, he looked sharper and was more aggressive. Scored a goal on a nice screen shot.
I thought Tyler Lewington also had a really good game for himself on the blueline. Won a lot of small battles and played pretty aggressive. Miles Koules continued his streak of playing well and creating chances offensively, and Tiger sniper Jake Doty has made it 4 straight games with a goal, with 11 points in his last 11 games.
Gotta give props to the 4th line as they buried 2 goals. Broadhead got his second as a Tiger, and Blake Penner got his 1st whl regular season goal. Also gotta give props to Chad Labelle for another strong showing in his fight against Arvin Atwal. Cam Lanigan played well picking up his 1st shutout as a Tiger.
Ty Stanton had an off night and Boston Leier has been in a bit of a slump since coming back after Christmas.
Dylan Bredo
The coaches mentioned after the game that they are considering keeping him back their full time as he is turning some heads with his play. He made one booboo tonight but he does an awesome job at battling for loose pucks, and getting a quick pass up to the forwards.
Tomorrow I will be away from the computer for most of the day. So I won't be on top of breaking news if a trade happens.

Trade Deadline Thoughts
19's and 20
Preseason I had Valk, Bredo, and Leier as next year overager locks......In my opinion that has changed a little.
Right now the only total lock I see is Curtis Valk. I would probably be giving a near 2nd lock to Dylan Bredo. Jake Doty has all of a sudden started to score with 5 goals in his last 8 games, and he is showing an offensive flair to his game. A tough guy that can score goals isn't something you wanna give away for cheap.
I don't think the Tigers will be looking to trade any of these guys specifically, but If another team comes calling it will take a good price to get one of them and I think those players maybe more valuable to the Tigers than what another team can offer. I don't expect a move to be made but if one happened It wouldn't shock me.
Forwards
I think their is a decent chance Valk and Shinkaruk are back next season which means another deadly top line. Their are still questions on how well the depth will perform. Will they be slightly above average, or will they tear the league up?
Can Koules, Cox, become scoring threats every game rather than Intermittently? Koules is showing an increased offensive flair to his game. I think by next season he will be scoring threat.
How will McVeigh perform? Does Bredo remain a defenceman? he has played exceptional back their so far.Sanford has been giving an increased role on the road and has looked good doing so.
Youngsters
Broadhead, Penner, Labelle, Sanford, Butcher, Owre That's 2 lines of players.
Next season Pearce and likely 1 of (Bredo Leier Doty) will be gone. That leaves 2 spots which are filled by the young guys on this years team. Next season with new faces their could be an abundance of younger guys
The Tigers may have some trade bait here purely based on too many players. They may get better value now being a year younger than waiting till next season. I think eventually a move or two will need to be made based on numbers, but their is no pressure to move any of them immediately.
The 16 year olds need to play in 40 games. The Tigers have 3 of them on the roster and will be cutting it close with 21, 24, and 26 games so far.
Defense The defense are more setup for a peak in 2 years but my gut likes the core group of Lewington, Jensen, Becker, Stanton, but they are still young. If Bredo was to be changed back their permanently they could possibly be a strong point next season, but that would leave 8 guys on the back-end this year. If Bredo does stay on defense the Tigers can dress 1 more forward and get them closer to the 40 game marks.
Goaltending
Goaltending is still questionable for next season. I like Langhamers instincts, his angles are getting better. I don't like his consistency. Still its a concern for next year. They could possibly make a move for next season but to me it feels like they are a little stuck with what they have.
Euro
The Tigers do have a euro spot. I think its unlikely they would trade for a 1 year rental player.
Overall
The Tigers do have some potential pieces to tinker with. What do you want to see happen?

Tigers Defeat Brandon 4-2
First Period
Brandon gets on the board first at the 6:49 mark. Brandon's forwards crossed over down low and it momentarily confused Stanton, Koules, and Hodder.
Taylor Cooper fed a pass to an incoming Tim McGauley. McGauley fired a low shot glove side past Cam Lanigan. 1-0 Brandon
The Tigers would earn multiple high quality scoring chances through most of the period. They were finally able to solve COrbin Boes on a delayed Line Change from Brandon.
Logan McVeigh would break into the Tigers end, hesitate, and send a cross ice pass to a rushing Dylan Bredo. Bredo would fire a shot on net and Corbin Boes would kick out a big rebound.
Jake Doty would pick up the loose puck skating by and pop it into an empty net 1-1 TIE
The game is tied but the Tigers won that period. They outchanced Brandon by about a 4-1 ratio in the period, and outshot them 10-6.
2nd Period
Was a fairly even period. Both teams generated some lower quality chances.
Jake Doty's pass would be a hair too far ahead for Elgin Pearce at center ice and the wheaties rushed back up the ice on the turnover. Jason Swyripa would take a slapshot just inside the blueline and it would take the legs out of Dylan Bredo. The puck came right back to Swyripa who had a clear lane to the net and put the puck up high glove side on Lanigan.
2-1 Brandon
Dylan Bredo would take some time to get off the ice....Lets hope he is OK.
Well Bredo would get his revenge on his return to the ice. Elgin Pearce would enter the zone down low and circle back. He would find Bredo coming off the bench. Bredo would snap a wrist shot through traffic and it beat Corbin Boes. 2-2 TIE
Late in the Period Elgin Pearce took a high blindside hit from Tyler Yaworski. Elgin looked dazed after the hit. Their was no call on the play...Probably could have been a 5 minute major.
See if he returns to the game
Tigers Outshot Brandon 10-9 for a 2 period total of 20-15.
3rd Period
Pearce is back on the ice.
The Tigers would start the period with a bang. 41 seconds in Hunter Shinkaruk beat his man down low and poked the puck to Valk behind the net. Valk would do a quick wrap-around and the puck would slide underneath Corbin Boes. 3-2 Tigers
Brandon's Captain Ryan Pulock would take out Boston Leier and the Brandon net just as Dylan Bredo was left alone in front with the puck. Pulock would get called for interference and the Tigers would take their insurance goal on the powerplay.
Shinkaruk at the point would pass the puck to Curtis Valk down low, who then fed the puck back to a streaking Shinkaruk in the slot and he managed to put the puck under Corbin Boes. 4-2 Tigers
Tigers outshot Brandon 15-7 in the period and 35-22 Overall.
Thoughts
That's 3 road games in a row where the Tigers have played really well through the whole game. Even with the loss of Busenius the Tigers are still scoring on their powerplay.
Dylan Bredo has been a rock on defense and was playing first unit minutes tonight. I thought Miles Koules, and Cole Sanford are showing sparks of taking their game to the next level.
The Tigers are doing a good job at trying to take advantage of these early January points. As they play some very tough teams in the second half of this month.
Next Up
Vancouver comes calling Tuesday at the Arena
Poll
The GM/Coaching Poll has run its course, with a first half fan approval rating of 44% we'll see if that improves after the season is over.

Pats Defeat Tigers 3-2 SO
Bredo playing the point again on the second unit and playing forward on the penalty Kill
New guy Zach Hodder is seeing 3rd unit minutes alongside Ty Stanton
Spenser Jensen is back in the lineup.
1st Period
Ty Stanton took a Regina player hard into the boards and got called for tripping.
The pats would take advantage on the powerplay.
A Pats player would attempt a cross ice pass in front of the crease, but it would get blocked and the puck would lay in front of Lanigan. Lanigan dove to cover it up but Former Tiger Trent Oullete would pounce on the puck and roof it over a fallen Lanigan. 1-0 Regina
Some good work by Hunter Shinkaruk would lead to the tigers tieing up the game. Shinkaruk was able to whack away a loose puck in his own end and fall on it along the boards. Pats left Winger Dyson Stephenson would aggressively try to uncover the puck from a fallen Shinkaruk and the ref called him for slashing.
On the powerplay Shinkaruk came off the bench to receive a pass from Elgin Pearce. The pats had a couple guys standing around in the middle of the ice and it allowed Shinkaruk some room to the outside and he fed a cross ice feed to Pearce on a mini 2 on 1 down low. Pearce was able to beat an outstretched Matt Hewitt to tie the game.
1-1 TIE
Shot Total says 9-3. The pats came out really aggressive and had the Tigers a bit on their heels, however the Tigers were able to minimize the scoring chances Regina was able to create.
Notes: Trevor Cox and Chad Butcher went hard into the boards. I was unable to see if they returned to the game.
2nd Period
Cox is back on the ice
The Tigers would take the lead 7 minutes into the first period.
Zach Hodder would take a point shot, and 2 pats would fall near their net trying to knock away the shot and rebound. Boston Leier would pick up the puck and make a pass over to Jake Doty on the far side. Doty had all kinds of time with the goalies out and made no mistake. 2-1 Tigers Lead
The Tigers put on a lot of pressure on Regina early in the second period. Regina seemed to Bench their top line. The Regina broadcasters kept mentioning that they haven't been on the ice in a looog time and weren't on the powerplay.
This tactic seemed to work as Regina's second unit would score a goal just after a Cole Sanford tripping penalty would expire. Kyle Burroughs would take a long shot from the point and Jack Rodewald would get his stick on it and deflect it past Lanigan. They would go upstairs and review the play but quicky deemed it a goal. 2-2 TIE
Regina's Oomf finally died down and the TIgers had some pressure of their own. Regina got a bit of a lucky bounce near the end. Regina outshot the Tigers 9-8 in the period. The Tigers are playing a good road game, but have been juggling their lines up a little. I haven't seen Chad Butcher back on the ice yet.
3rd Period
No Scoring
I thought Regina got lucky on a few of the penalty calls. Tigers Doty got called for goaltender interference after getting driven into the net on a 2 on 1 and late in the game Elgin Pearce got called for boarding after bracing himself for a pats player who beat him to the puck along the boards. Both very questionable calls IMO.
The Tigers would also get a 1 minute 5 on 3, but couldn't gain much puck possesion time in Regina's zone. Regina Outshot the Tigers 12-11 in a very close period.
Overtime
The Tigers had sooo many chances to end it. Lewington was left alone in front. Shinkaruk had a couple chances.
Shoot Out
The only goal came from Morgan Klimchuck who made a very nice shootout move faking the shot, went to the otherside and stuffed the puck five-hole.
Thoughts
I thought the Tigers played a very good road game and faced a very feisty Regina Team at home. They generated a lot of odd man rushes and had numerous high quality chances, but Matt Hewitt played a very solid game and was promptly named the game first star. Can't fault them for their effort they played well.

Tigers Defeat Raiders 5-2
Kyle Becker is out with an injury suffered last night.
Dylan Bredo is playing defense
Blake Penner is off to the world under 17's
Prince Albert is playing their rarely used backup Andy Desautel.
They also have their top scorer Mark McNeil out with Team Canada.
New Lines
Shinkaruk McVeigh Valk
Leier Pearce Doty
Koules Cox Sanford
Broadhead Owre Butcher
First Period
A very strong start to the hockey game. The Tigers had 2 instances where they put a solid 3 shifts in a row together in the offensive end. They definitely won the period.
Jayden Hart and Elgin Pearce had a couple scuffles on the ice.
The only goal of the period came on a weird play. The Webcast was to slow to pick it up but the puck was in the corner, and it looked like Jacob Doty smacked at a loose puck and all of a sudden the puck was in the net. 1-0 Tigers.
The Tigers outshot P.A 8-4 in the first period.
New guy Zach Hodder made a bone crushing hit along the boards in his own end.
2nd Period
The Raiders come out with an early chance but after that it was all Tigers.
Derek Ryckman took a shot from the point. The puck would bounce off of Shinkaruk and into the net. 2-0 Tigers.
Ty Stanton was taken heavily into the boards resulting in a Tigers powerplay.
After the Raiders clear the puck down the ice the Tigers take it back up on the rush. Curtis Valk and Elgin Pearce would make a perfect give and go type play at the blueline, and Valk fed a streaking Shinkaruk at the far end. Shinkaruk on a bit of a bad angle would roof a shot with the goalie down and out. 3-0 Tigers.
P.A had a couple powerplays, but only managed one real good chance, and got caught with too many men on the ice to negate half of their second powerplay.
Late in the period the Tigers had numerous chances to score, the Raiders backup is keeping his team in the game. The Tigers outshot the Raiders 13-5 in the second period, and 23-9 overall. The raiders haven't come to play tonight.
3rd Period
Raiders get on the board and start getting some momentum. Dylan Busenius took a shot from the point and it was deflected by Jayden Hart. 3-1 Tigers
The Tigers would get the momentum back on their side with a shorthanded goal.
Hunter Shinkaruk knocked a loose puck past the Raiders defenceman and went off on a 2 on 1 with Curtis Valk.. Valk came down the far wing and fired a shot over the shoulder of Andy Desautels
4-1 Tigers. The Raiders Mike Winther would take a roughing penalty going after Tyler Lewington during the celebration and it would put the Tigers on the powerplay.
The Tigers would strike. Boston Leier took a heavy shot from the half-wall. Elgin Pearce would lay into the rebound from the high slot on a one-timer. 5-1 Tigers.
Prince Albert would pull within 3 again a minute and a half later. Dakota Conroy fed a streaking Anthony Bardaro down the middle who faked a shot which fooled lanigan down to his knees, and then Roofed the shot. 5-2 Tigers
Tigers outshot P.A 13-5, for a 3 period total 36-14.
Thoughts
Dylan Bredo filled in very well playing defence.
Miles Koules played really well.
Boston Leier had a bit of an off night.
Ty Stanton had a great night eating a lot of minutes.
The New Defenceman Zach Hodder is showing a good first pass and some good mobility on the back-end.
The Tigers were aggressive on their forecheck and had lots of chances, while greatly minimizing the Raiders chances.
Dylan Busenius played very well for the raiders and both former Tigers factored in on the scoring for P.A.
