Players At NHL Camps
This will be a floating post that gets updated as announcements are made.

I will Update as more information is known. Quite a few NHL teams haven't released their training camp rosters or exact dates, but they should be coming soon.

Florida Panthers
Linus Nassen(20) - Defenceman
Dylan MacPherson(20) - Defenceman

Rookie Camp Opens: September 11th
Main Camp Opens: September 14th
AHL Camp Opens: Usually a couple days after the WHL season starts

Pre-Season games: Sept 17,19,22,25,27,29

Notes:
Dylan MacPherson is largely expected back, but hoping to make an impact with Florida.
Linus Nassen is drafted but remains un-signed with Florida. TigerTurf believes there is a good chance he could get sent back to Juniors.

New York Islanders
David Quenneville(20) - Defenceman

Rookie Camp Opens: September 7th
Main Camp Opens: September 13th
AHL Camp Opens: Usually a couple days after the WHL season starts

Pre-Season Games: Sept 16,17,18,20,21,22,26,28

Notes
Sean Clouston has mentioned they don't expect Quenneville back. There are MH news articles about him saying it's unlikely he returns.

TigerTurf thinks there is a good chance he gets sent back as a late return. He will probably be sent down to the AHL affiliate in Bridgeport first and spend a week or three there.  It is unlikely he will be here for the Season Opener and if he does return it may not be until a few weeks to a month into the season.

Minnesota Wild
Mason Shaw

Rookie Camp Opens: September 6th
Main Camp Opens: September 13th
AHL Camp Opens:

Pre-season games: Sept 16,18,20,22,24,28,30

Notes:
Shaw is primed for his first season as a pro. TigerTurf thinks it's unlikely that he returns as a Tiger.

Las Vegas Knights
Ryan Chyzowski

Rookie Opens: September 6th
Main Camp Opens: September 13th

Pre-Season Games: Sept 16,18,20,22,24,28,30

Notes:
Chyzowski is a free agent invite. He is still too young for pro's and will likely be sent back at the conclusion of rookie camp, or a few days into Main Camp.

Sept 16:
Chyzowski did not dress

Ottawa Senators
Jordan Hollett - Returned to Medicine Hat

Looks like the Tigers had a couple really good pre-season games. Lethbridge's roster had more of a veteran presence in their lineup and the Tigers came away with an OT loss and Win.

I only seen one pre season game but I was very impressed with Rybinski. He's looks a little stronger and he looks a lot faster. He was beating older players to pucks and he was really flying out there.
Really liked what I seen from Bjorklund as well. Good size, good mobility and just looks very confident in the net.
Jalen Price looks like he will be a good player for us down the road as well. Good size and skates pretty well.

I see that about the only signed player not on the preseason roster is Ryan Watson. Did he not have a good camp? Anyone know?

Anonymous said...

Defence is stacked probably fell behind.

What happened to Scout Truman?

TigerTurf said...

Didn't come to camp, Don't know the reasons why.

longtimefan said...

Watson is listed on the Tiger roster.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he had family commitments or something else come up and he couldn't make the pre season games. That's my guess

Anonymous said...

Is Truman going NCAA? Geez I hope not! He would be a star in this league. Has the potential to be an Ennis.

Anonymous said...

Hes playing in the AJHL for Drumheller this season with his brother, Roc. Who knows what happen with that situation.

Anonymous said...

The young goaltenders are outdueling the import. Both played tonight and got a combined shutout.

Anonymous said...

I agree, the young goalies are far outplaying Sogaad. I will be very disappointed if it is not one of the young guys as back up this year!!

Anonymous said...

Mason Shaw is likely to start the season south of the border.

Anonymous said...

It's the goaltending position, it's bound to get messed up!!!!!! Check the coaches history on this position.

longtimefan said...

It's foolish to make comments based on how many goals were scored against a goaltender. Watching the game highlights Soogard had little to no chance on any of the goals. Two deflections and three wide open nets for easy tap ins.

Anonymous said...

Sillger is going to be a star. Can nto wait to see him next year. He outplayed the vets in each game. He looks like he could have the potential to be an NHL first rounder.

Anonymous said...

I agree with longtime fan. Sogaard made 31 saves and let in 5 goals, 4 on the power play. I heard the whole team was struggling to move the puck and stay out of the box. Hard to blame the goalie for that, or to assumed base on scores that he isn't good

TigerTurf said...

That goaltending battle looks very interesting. Judging from the comments in the paper a week ago it sounds like their leaning towards Mads....It wouldn't make sense to draft him otherwise.

I haven't seen the goalies play yet, so I can't really comment. It does sound like the play of the two younger kids are making the decision difficult.
-------

Hollett & Ottawa - Looking at their goaltenders Ottawa has some turnover next season. Hollett could very well be in their plan for the AHL. I have heard they have been impressed with his improvements in this training camp. If they sign Hollett over the next month or two that would be a better indication they plan on moving him up vs, a very late signing before the draft to keep his rights.

Mitch Bach tweeted that Lane has been sent home

TigerTurf said...

Good Info, thanks...Although 1 bone to pick....I never liked the word "released" It implies they gave up his rights. I like the term sent down or re-assigned, as it implies they kept his rights.

Even if Lane comes back next season, the crease is still full. He faces the same challenge. Next year they likely have Sogaard 19, Bjorklund17, lane18 and Vanderkooi(16). I wouldn't be surprised to see Lane request a trade. If I'm the Tigers I don't want that to happen. If I'm a developing whl club I inquire into his availability as he can probably be added for cheap and there is good potential there. Low cost/high reward potential.

------
Anyways that leaves 16 forwards, 9 Defenceman, 3 goalies = 28 players
1-2 more cuts on Defence, 1-2 cuts at forward, 0-1 cuts at goalie.

Hollett made ottawa's Main Camp

Was having a peek at NYI defence situation, I would agree with TigerTurf, would seem crazy to eat up a year of a ELC in the ECHL. Especially on an undersized guy who can still grow defensively. Why not give someone who is smaller another year to mature and grow in the WHL. Especially when the alternative is likely burying him in the ECHL. I never think that works out for a player. Go back to junior, dominate and make your NHL team really excited to get you back and going the next year. I have always been a fan of Quen. I think he is an exciting player with upside. If I were him I would want to be seen as the best WHL defenceman this year. Get a huge humber of point, ensure my plus/minus is awesome and then go to camp next year with the view to challenge for a NHL job and at worst case scenario be considered for top 2 lines in the AHL and hope for call ups. I would not want to get buried.

Ryan Chysowski is listed on the main Vegas training camp roster as well.

All six Tigers made main camps and former Tigers Rassell and Rubins made their main camps too

Anonymous said...

Who will be requesting a trade ? And do u think they are looking to trade at this point ?? Just a question

TigerTurf said...

Looks like everybody made main camps. Florida's rookie camp started very late and I'm not sure if they've given out the 1st round of cuts yet, but nonetheless, nassen and MacPherson are still on their training camp lists.

Pre-season games start Sunday so we may see a couple Tigers playing NHL exhibition

Anonymous said...

According to the Panthers' site, they only invited 13 players to their rookie camp

longtimefan said...

From a very reliable source, David Quennville will play his 20 year old year in Medicine Hat.

Heathcote again wow

It appears Price and Fedyk have been cut according to the current roster. I’m not a fan of these two getting cut. I thought both had pretty much guaranteed a spot on the team.

TigerTurf said...

I see 15 forwards, 8 defense and 3 goalies on the list now. I don't see Ryden Fedyck on the Tigers website. I think Sillinger was the forward removed...

They are at 26 players, which is 1 above the 25 man limit, imposed by the OA deadline. List doesn't include Quenneville or nassen.

I haven't heard much about any of the players still away at camps. Florida has 2 exhibition games today and I would believe macpherson/nassen could be playing.

Anonymous said...

I’m not sure why they kept Watson over fedyck. Watson will be a good player but he’s only 16 so in my opinion they should have sent him back to midget for another year and fedyck should have been on he team this year.

Sorry, not sure why but there were a ton of comments caught in the automatic Blogspot spam filter. I just released them all. If you are a frequent visitor look up a few posts and a bunch of new comments are now visible.

Hollet is back from Ottawa

TigerTurf said...

Nasson or MacPherson did not play last night despite Florida playing 2 games.
Quenneville did not play for the Islanders. Shaw did not play for Minnesota
----

Vegas has Team A & Team B practices until Sunday 23rd. I'm curious if that means Chyzowski will not be here for the opening weekend.

Jalen Price to Everett for a 5th. I’m wondering if he requested a trade after not making the roster. I was hoping this guy would be on the team this year. Hopefully he does good over there.

Anonymous said...

Hope he does too.. Clownston likes little players.. trade a third round who played well in pre season and put up points

Anonymous said...

Just a minor pet peeve, why can't they keep their staff updated on the website or is there that much turnover they can't keep up with it
