Kessy Suspended 12 Games

http://www.whl.ca/page/WHL-discipline

The WHL gives its reasoning as
The checking to the head penalty was for an elbow to the head of the opponent
The opponent was injured on the play
The player is a repeat offender

Yikes...That Means Kessy is next eligible to play in exactly 1 month.Friday October 26th against Calgary.

He is proving to be a slow learner of the new rules governing hockey..
OHL mimimum 20 for him..
Hope he gets it, he can be effective if he just chases the little black thing.

jeez thats a lot and didnt that player return to the game?

Our guys need to lay on the ice more and act like they have been shot so they can draw more suspensions. 12 is crazy agreed, especially when the kid who checked Hunter from behind got nothing. Hunter should have laid on the ice for 5 min, then the kid would at least have a couple games!

Not surprised as I thought 5 if no injury and 10 or more if there was one. Hopefully this will mean something to him and he gets his act together when he comes back.

AHL or NHL the play would have carried on. Great power forward! Will do great playing against men at the next level.

Kessy will never ever play AHL or NHL for over a year he is such a libaility on the ice and cost teams if we werent leading that game by as much as we were and it was 3-2 or 2-2 everyone would be pissed
He needs to hit like Hollweg just raw strength and power

God, horribly embarrassing if they starting pulling that garbage.

I agree. I thought Galbraith should have atleast got a game. I don't disagree with the Kessy suspension, he doesn't need elbows or headshots to lay a hard hit. If I had to defend him, he has this reputation around the league for running guys. So when a player sees him coming full speed at them, they have a tendency to try and avoid the hit and in some cases put themselves in more vulnerable positions which result in elbows, headshots or checks from behind.

Tigers should pick up another 20 year old till the deadline and make a decision or not to cut Kessy loose. He will have to change his style of play to avoid any reckless hits. If he does, he will become ineffective for his role on the team. He isn't a playmaker or goal scorer (although he has 2 in 2 games)...he is an intimidator and is supposed to bring energy to the team with his hard work and big, clean hits.

Just my opinion.

They will not cut him, period

I really like Kessy, he is an asset to the team. But has to adjust his hits. I do think he causes other guys to try to duck out of the way and does end up hitting guys awkwardly without the intention of doing so. I think 12 games is over the top. And am disappointed that the WHL chose to not hand out a suspension to the kid who hit Hunter. Seems a little unfair. Let's hope Kessy can alter is hitting without stopping hitting!!

Too bad for Kessy. The suspension reads that it was due to 'injury to the player'. Pilon missed his game on Wednesday -- that being the date the suspension was handed out. If he appears to be playing on the weekend, then i appears to be a staged injury to incur a longer suspension. Early reports say that he will be back on the weekend. Sad, very sad if one team can pull stunts that like to institute a longer suspension. I agree Kessy should have had a suspension but I am not sure it should have been double digits.

Younger players can not wait to get to the WHL and play at a higher and more intense level of hockey, but as soon as something happens, they blame the older and more experienced player. Kessy has history of suspensions and I agree a 6-8 game suspension would or should have been in order -- nothing more! Changing the penalty on the Hurricanes player to charging is unheard of.

When you watch replay and see that a goal was obviously there or not there, do they CHANGE the scoresheet? Ever in the history - has a goal allowed or disallowed ever been changed? Since when are penalties changed on scoresheets?

Horrible turn of events. Hope the Tigers can play a physical game, rack up the points and take it to the Hurricanes for the rest of the season.

I think 12 is a bit much but in no way think that Kessy did not deserve a suspension. I think the WHL is trying to make a point about hits like this and unfortunately picked on Kessy to make an example of him.
But what does bother me is the inconsistency with the handing out of suspensions. The kid who hit Hunter did so knowing that Hunter was in a compromised position and followed through on the hit anyways. The initial point of contact was not the head but by hitting him the way he did it made Hunters head hit the boards before any other body part. So I am at a loss as to how this is a less dangerous hit. It could have caused severe neck problems and a concussion. So are these hits allowed as long as someone is not out for days or weeks with an injury? One would think this given the WHL's comment in the paper. But then I would love to hear their comment on why the Lethbridge player who hit Hart last year just before playoffs which caused his concussion and he missed all of playoffs, why did he not get a suspension? It is this inconsistency with which the WHL operates that really bothers me. I wish they would be held responsible for their actions as well. As guys lose out because of them. They also, in the case of the kid who hit Hunter, encourage questionable play by not handing out appropriate suspensions.

Kessy at most will play 60 games this year, baring no injury and no suspension (which is very unlikely) the tigers must move on and do what is best for the team, Kessy is going to keep hurting this team at this point and a 20 year old that plays maybe 60 games is just stupid every hard hit kessy throws is going to be under review, i just see no way you can win if he keeps throw dirty hits
