The arena is on schedule to be ready for the first home game of the regular season, however the exhibition game against Swift Current will be played in the Kinplex.

Looking at the twitter feeds quite a few of the vets used Monday as a travel day to get back to Medicine Hat. The Tigers season gets underway in Lethbridge in exactly one month of this post.

Tigers Make a Small Trade

Medicine Hat Tigers announce this afternoon they have traded the playing rights of 20-year-old defenceman Garrett Haar to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Tigers will receive a conditional pick in 2014 bantam draft.
Haar, who was on the Tiger’s College List,- played the last two years for Western Michigan University Broncos.

This leaves the Tigers with five returning 20-year-olds including Dylan Bredo, Jake Doty, Zach Hodder, Boston Leier and Medicine Hat native Curtis Valk

“We are very excited about the talent and character of our returning 20-year-olds,” stated Tigers’ general manager and head coach Shaun Clouston.

The Tigers will take to the ice for rookie training camp on Friday, August 22nd at the Family Leisure Centre due to The Arena currently undergoing flood damage restoration.

Main camp will begin on the afternoon of Sunday, August 25 concluding Wednesday, August 28th with the annual black and white intra-squad game

The Tigers begin their exhibition season at the Edmonton Oil Kings tournament in St. Albert on Saturday, August 31st when they play Calgary Hitmen and follow up against the Prince George Cougars the next day.

----------------
Garret Harr was on the Tigers protected List, and decided to go through the WHL route after being declared academically ineligible for the first half of next season in the NCAA, and The Tigers held his rights. I don't know what kind of conditional pick this will turn out to be.

New Import Markus Eisenschmid

It's been a while, and yes and this is some old news but I dug up some info on the newest Tiger.
German Import Markus Eisenschmid

The MH News mentioned that Clouston was assured 100% that he is coming over, and I just read a german article where his former Team's Coaches have also stated that he will play in North America for his development.

Last year Markus played in the German Men's league and scored 7 points in 39 games as a 17 year old.
He also split time with ESV Kaufbeuren and put up 18 points in 19 games with 34 penalty minutes in their junoir league.

Eisenschmid is listed at 6 feet 172 lbs on Elite Prospects.com.

Markus was ranked as the 57th best prospect on NHL Central Scouting Final Euro List, and 53rd on the Mid-Term rankings, but went undrafted, as did ranked Tigers Spenser Jensen, Ty Stanton, and Curtis Valk.

Last year Markus suffered an early season injury and his Junoir team had to play in different Arena's as it had contructions issues and was shut down. He was used in a scorer role, but when he moved up to the German Men's league he was given a defensive shutdown 3rd/4th line type role.

For his overall potential it is too early to see if he can be a scorer, or more of a 3rd line grinder. Reports say he is a pretty all-around good offensive player. I did read that Eisenshmid has a feistyness/proud aspect to his game, but could get a little stronger. Markus does have a tendency of sometimes looking a bit lethargic on the ice and like all euro's it may take him some time to adjust to the quickness of the CHL game, but he has an offensive upside that hopefully the Tigers can get out of him.

At the under 18's he was a player that liked to pass the puck instead of shoot, and seemed to play better being a centreman.  He has been used on both the powerplay and penalty kill, so he has some flexibility to where he can play.  He will probably have a shot at playing with Germany for the WJC championship if he gets off to a good start.

With the depth the Tigers have, hopefully he can prove to put up some points on the second line.
Prior to the draft it sounded like he has made up his mind about crossing the ocean and is exciting about playing here.

Another Overager?

Their is a defenceman by the name of Garrett Harr who was drafted in the 7th round, 207th overall from the 2013 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. Last season he played for Western Michigan University but this year was deemed academically ineligible to play for the fall semester. Guess who holds his rights?

The Medicine Hat Tigers

Garret Harr would be a 20 year old overager next season. He is listed as 6'1 198 lbs. The Scouting report on Garrett says he is a good all-around defenceman. Smart in the D zone, has a good first pass, and can contribute on the rush. Garret was injured for much of last season.

Next years Overage Group consists of: Boston Leier, Curtis Valk, Jacob Doty, Dylan Bredo, Zach Hodder.

Garret Tweeted this on Friday: Have decided to leave Western Michigan and go play in the WHL. Medicine Hat tigers seems to be my destination but still not sure.

Interesting to see what comes of this!
