Tigers Defeat Warriors 3-2 OT

1st Period

Warriors get a couple lucky bounces. Morgan Rielly missed a shot from the point but the puck bounced off the boards behind the net over to Justin Kirsch. Kirsch would throw a puck on net from behind the goal line which bounced in off of Cam Lanigan's pads. 1-0 Warriors

The Tigers would get the equalizer very late in the period. Curtis Valk made a nice move in his own end and took off down the ice.  Valk would pass the puck over to Elgin Pearce at the Tigers blue-line. Then at the Warriors blueline Pearce threaded a perfect pass back to Valk as he got a step on the Moose Jaw Defender. Valk drove to the net, looked to be going for the far side, then slid the puck short side past Moose Jaw goalie Justin Paulic. 1-1 Tie

2nd period
No Scoring.

Both teams had some scoring chances. The Tigers generated quite a few prime scoring chances (including a couple short breakaways in close but could not close the deal. Lanigan also made a couple good saves including a breakaway save shorthanded.

I thought the Tigers did a really good job blocking shots.  Off the faceoff warriors big defenceman Joel Edmundson had room to lay into a slapshot from the high slot, and one of the smaller forwards went down and blocked it perfectly.

3rd Period
Just over 5 minutes in the Tigers would strike. Dylan Bredo and Jake Doty were both in a battle for the puck along the boards. Bredo would gain control walk out front, and his second shot found the five hole of Warriors Tender Justin Paulic. 2-1 Tigers

The momentum would change after Derek Ryckman tripped himself up and took out a warrior player causing the Tigers to go down shorthanded. The warriors wouldn't score but kept the play in the Tigers zone for a good chunk of time untill Tyler Lewington got called for roughing a couple minutes later.

On the Warriors powerplay they got another lucky break.  Justin Kirsch deked out Jayden Hart at the point. Walked to the middle and fired a pass through a maze of players. The pass would hit Sam Fioretti's skate and bounce into the net. 2-2 TIE

After this the Tigers picked up their game again.

Overtime
Some really good work by Boston Leier and Dylan Bredo.  Dylan Bredo was able to strip the puck off of Moose Jaw player Sam Fioretti. Bredo then found Derek Ryckman at the far side point.
Ryckman's shot would be blocked but Boston Leier who was in a battle for position in front was able to beat the warrior defenseman to the loose puck, then draw 3 warriors over to him behind the net. Leier threaded a nice pass through feet and sticks, over to a streaking Bredo. Bredo the lifted a high shot past the fallen Justin Paulic to seal the 3-2 Tigers Victory.

I thought Dylan Bredo and Boston Leier had incredible game tonight for the Tigers. Lanigan played very solid once again. 4 Game Winning Streak puts the Tigers back to .500

Next Action: Kale Kessy comes back to town as the Tigers take on the Vancouver Giants on a rare Thursday Night game. The giants have struggled as of late sporting a 3-10-0-0 record. However one of those 3 wins was a 6-1 Giants win over the Tigers.

Inside Scoop: fantastic weekend! That a boy fellas. Good to see some underachievers step to the plate this weekend. We need everyone pulling the rope in the same direction at the same time.

Doty has not been given much credit this year. But I have noticed him name on the score sheet quite a few times. And have also seen in replays him often driving to the net. He is doing a great job and filling a new role of not only a fighter but a guy who can chip in some offence. Nice work. I think he has pretty much already tied his point total from last year. Seattle must not have been using him to play hockey but only to fight. Glad to see him taking this opportunity!

Also, I have been critical of Bredo at times of not being able to score. I have always thought he was one of the best defensively but need to acknowledge that he is doing a great job of providing secondary scoring! Nice work kid!

3 wins in 3 nights, impressive. I think those that wanted Clouston fired have to be quiet for awhile, his pickup of Lanigan is looking like genius at this point. Unfortunately Shinkaruk was held off the scoresheet, which will shoot down his chances of being potw. Let's give it to Lanigan then, 3 wins and it would have been 4 no doubt if he had played the third period against the Pats.

Who gets credit for last nights win? Lanigan or Langhammer?

longtimefan said...

Great weekend for the whole team. Nice to see Bredo start to score. The changes the coaching staff made to the lines has paid huge dividends, nice to see.

The Tigers!!

Anonymous said...

Langhammer gets credit for the win as it shows on the WHL site under individual player stats. Usually the goalie finishing the game gets the credit regardless of many mins are played by them.

Its great we found a goalie for this year but its a short term fix for what could easily be a 3 year problem

It amazes me how so many people think Hunter is this amazing facts are facts this city highly underestimated Etem and how good he really is, we are talking this kid could easily be a 40 goal scorer in the NHL and he mad Hunter look good, lots of top players do it they are just so gifted they make their line mates look amazing as well, Brian Campbell Joe Thornton and Martin St. Louis are examples of that, im not saying Hunter is a bad hockey player its just he needs to expand his game and improve, you cant just be amazing and not be expected to grow before you are even drafted. The good news is he is starting to battle a lot more which is how you get going it comes shortly after, which is a relief because his effort of the beginning of the season was a joke for a Captain and arguably best offensive player.

HOW ABOUT BREDO THOUGH!! 3 Goal weekend and a winner and Doty has just been bringing it since he got here i guarantee Seattle is regretting letting him go for so little

People think Hunter is good because HUNTER IS REALLY, REALLY GOOD! He can fly down the wings, has great hands and amazing body control. This town loves to eat it's own, but whether you're a Shinkaruk fan or not, you can't dispute that he's a terrific hockey player. He does a lot of things extremely well, and his passion for the game is evident every time he's on the ice.

Maybe he's not a Sidney Crosby type...maybe he's a bit more Ovechkin or Jeff Skinner or something along those lines, but either way he's a hell of a player and I'm happy to watch him in our lineup every night.

Now, can you let it go and just enjoy the fact the team is on a win streak instead of trying to prove how smart you are about hockey? If you had the skill set Shinkaruk has, you'd be an NHL'er, not a comment-posting troll, so just sit back and soak up some wins!!!

Anonymous said...

Anon at 1:18 is right Etem was just that good

Anonymous said...

Anon at 1:18, I don't think anyone in this town underestimated how good Etem was!

Anonymous said...

Really?? In the same write up you are going to say that Hunter is so-so hockey player and rave about Bredo?? Bredo will never be the player Hunter is already. Why do you hate Hunter so much?? A guy who is still in the top 10 in scoring and he is still 17, why is that not good enough for you?

Don said...

Hunter will be a top line guy in the NHL and you will look silly having posted that. Go troll some other site! PLEASE!!!

Dan said...

Well, I am just going to throw this out there, Hunter has not been selected for U18 team Canada, for the Russia trip this summer, to play on team WHL for Canada-Russia series and being ranked in the top 15 for the upcoming NHL draft because he is not a completely awesome and elite player. But I guess, what do the pro scouts know right? Anon 1:18 must know more then all those guys in charge of all the previously mentioned things. In fact, Anon 1:18, they are probably looking for you to get your opinions right now. Keep your phone close!

Stix said...

We have all year and summer to worry about goaltending for next year. Lets just worry about playing this year with the good team that we have!

anonymous said "seattle must be regretting to let Doty go for so little" .That little is Riley Sheen who is their leading scorer, 11 points in 13 games.does not seem little to me.

Anonymous said...

I would never take Sheen back. Doty all the way. Don't care how much Sheen scores there.

Anonymous said...

I was unaware Sheen is doing that good (congrats to him) still equal trade off both players are good at their own craft, I guarantee Hunter will be the most unsafe pick in the draft coming up (for 1st round) he gets shut down by WHL dmen that will never play pro he is completely invisible 5 on 5, I wouldnt say i hate Hunter i just hate how people over looked Etem so much Etem is going to be a wrecking force in the NHL he has everything you want out of a prospect and Bredo and Hunters craft are completely different, Bredo is probably the best penalty killer and two way forward in the league but Medicine Hat fans are to ignorant to think outside of scoring and realize there are different elements, and the reason under is on the All-Star teams is because of his points last year not this year lets be honest.
I would say i know more than hockey experts Don and Dan but i surely know more than Tigers fans through my experience in the higher levels of hockey (no not pro)

"I guarantee Hunter will be the most unsafe pick in the draft coming up (for 1st round)"
So anon 10:30pm I'm guessing with that comment about Shinkaruk that you know all of the ins and outs of all the players rated in the top 30 of this upcoming draft to "guarantee" that he will be the most unsafe pick. I'm curious as to which nhl team you are the scouting director for to have all of that information available to you? As far as comparing Etem and Shinkaruk, yes etem was a better player but he was also 2 years older than Hunter as well and much stronger. Differnt type players as well, Etem was more of a power forward while Shinkaruk is more of a finesse guy. I think we should all be thankful that we get to see these types of players play year in and year out. And nothing against Bredo but if I'm a pro scout and I have a choice between him and Shinkaruk and him i know which guy I would be choosing.

Anonymous said...

FYI NHL scouting does not know much. Considering Langhamer was drafted by NHL. Tigers mgmt sure we're fooled with this one.

Anonymous said...

I do not think anon10:30pm said anything about "guarantee" but I think was it fact is that Hunter is ranked high. Higher then many of his competitors in the up coming draft. Bredo over Shinkaruk, that is a strange pick. Guys who are high scorers in the WHL often turn out to be 3rd line guys. Bredo can't score much and will be severely outplayed in the NHL. He is off to a Canadian University after WHL. Don't think a pro contract would come his way above an ECHL level. Even there he will be a 3 or 4th line guy.

Anonymous said...

So you are going to base that ALL NHL scouts know nothing because one decided to jump on Langhammer in a late round? And you know more??

Anonymous said...

If Etem is going to be a "wreaking force" why has he not scored or got a point in 6 games?? Maybe he needs Hunter to play with him! Why can't the argument go the other way?? What is missing for Etem?

HItman fan said...

So I am a Hitmen fan and I cant believe you guys complaining about this Shinkrak kid he is fantastic and exciting to watch and if you want to get rid of him I am pretty sure that any other team in this league would take him. Amazing how crappy you fans treat your players he would probably rather play in a city that woudl appreciate his skill as you guys do not seem to be able to see skill when it it right in front of you. Hitmen will take him anyday and would love to see him pot 4 goals in the back of your net as you fans deserve it for ragging on one of the best players in the league. Let's go HItmen!!!!

Anonymous said...

Uh - Hitman fan FYI it was Volk who put 4 goals in the back of your net - Shinkaruk only put 1 in but got 4 assists!

Anonymous said...

Inside Scoop: I would like to see our Tigers give up less goals against. Currently we are sitting with the 2nd most allowed against in the entire league.
Lanigan will help address that concern. But, he is going to need some help.

Anonymous said...

Yep Lanigan should help, clouston is not the genius, stopped the bleeding for now ? And yes most NHL scouts are no better than the money greedy teams, owners that locked us out. NHL can have Langhamer , no wonder they loose money , overpay what they have and overlook the real talent.
Ps , tigers also jumped on Langhamer , pretty expensive bench warmer in any league.
Play well Cam and take what can. You players deserve better. Go tigers go, but don't sell your soul. And Shinkaruk deserves better support than Tiger fans provide.

Hitmen fan said...

Shinkrak burt us. Valk was hand fed some of those goals. Shinkrak fed him one from his knees. Again, if you crappy fans keep crapping on him I hope you send him our way. We will take him. Even if he "only" pulls out one goal and 4 assists against you crappy complaining fans then I would love to watch it. Hitman fans are so much better we support our team not tear them down. Cant believe what you crappy fans say about Shinkrak. You dont know hockey or talent in the hicks.
Lets go Hitmen! Cant wait for our new #9 to roast his old team!

Stix said...

Sadly, today is a day that I agree with a hitman fan. Supporting a brilliant player on our team seems like a good idea!!
Go tigers go!! (we beat the Hitmen and don't forget it!)

Anonymous said...

Goals against are so high because of the 2 sieves in the net for the first 13 games. Give it time man!

Anonymous said...

Lanigan has a 1.80 GGA......... if you look you will see our goals against are high only because of the two horrible goalies at the beginning of the season. You may not like it but it will take time to undo the damage to our stats that they have done. At 1.80 GGA it would appear that all systems are working fine. He is second goalie in the league with GAA so chill with the stat worrying, think we have identified that was taken care of.

Hitman fan said...

anonymous 8:24......are you trying to justify why you rag on Shinkrak? Because he only got 5 point in a game? Med hat fans suck if that is the way you think. Med hat tigers move to a city where your fans will like you.
Lets go hitmen

Anonymous said...

I agree with HItman fan but also do not like Hitman fan here. Go troll elsewhere but yes we love Shinkaruk and probably you just see frustration from fans not use to being a below .500 team. Something that the HItman fans are use to. We do not want to trade Hunter, we know he is amazing, but Tiger fans are use to winning. Look at our banners...... it is just frustration. But that frustration was relieved a bit by a 10-1 romp of your Hitmen! So thanks for that!

Anonymous said...

using a seventh on Lanigan is them saying he has potential but its a long shot

Anonymous said...

Inside Scoop: Missed defensive assignments also played a huge part in those statistics!! Lets not kid ourselves.
The defensive pairings are all over the place. That's because their struggling to find cohesiveness.
But.... We will get the GA down for sure.

Anonymous said...

A 7th is basically all you get for a 20 year old these days. Don't think it had much to do with him having potential or not.

Anonymous said...

I love where Lany is sitting with 1.80 GAA. The most recent defensive lines looked a bit better, lets hope they can find some chemistry and help Lany keep that GAA so low!
Go tigers go! Lets how they bring it tomorrow! Show Kessy that he is missing out!
