Tigers Trade Kessy to Vancouver

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers announced this afternoon they have traded 20-year-old forward Kale Kessy to the Vancouver Giants. The Tigers will receive a conditional 5th round pick in the 2015 WHL bantam draft.

“We would like to thank Kale for the time, effort and contribution he made over the last three seasons to our organization,” stated Tigers’ GM  Head Coach Shaun Clouston. “We wish Kale great success with the Giants.”

The move of Kessy to Vancouver brings the Tigers into line with the WHL’s 20-year-old limit of three players. The three 20-year-olds will be recently acquired Derek Ryckman and Elgin Pearce along with defenseman Alex Theriau who is now back in Medicine Hat finishing up rehab after off season surgery.

The Tigers embark on a busy weekend with three games in three nights beginning in Red Deer tonight prior to hosting Prince George tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.and Saskatoon on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

------------
I think their is a strong chance Kessy will be sent back to the whl from Portland Pirates (ahl)
With all of his suspensions it looked like Kessy wore out his welcome with the coaches. I think he is a player that fans either loved or hated. I thought that Kale improved a lot towards the end of last season and the playoffs before his concussion. Even at the start of this season he showed improvement untill the elbow that took out Ryan Pilon deflated everything. (Pilon is still out with an injury)

I think Kessy has November 1st circled on his calendar when the Giants next visit Medicine Hat. The giants focus a lot on their cycle down low and work ethic and I think Kessy will be able to play a big role within the giants system if he can keep his nose clean.

Also I wont be able to recap tonights game in Red Deer due to other commitments.

I did not see this coming, oddly. I thought Kessey was a big part of the team. I assumed that he was going to stick in Portland but never thought that we were going to trade him. Very sad to see him go! Especially to the Giants! Go luck Kale!

Sad about this trade. I liked Kessy in a tiger jersey, not another jersey. Tough loss. Lost a lot of character. Is there still a chance he could stick in Portland?

I agree Tiger Turf that Kessy will do very well with the Giants under the guidance of Don Hay who has coached a high level of hockey in his career. I dont think though he wore out his welcome with the coaches but wanted out along with other players in the furture if not now. Loved watching you Kessy Good Luck out west!

Inside Scoop : Kale Kessy signed a minimum 25 Game pro contract with Phoenix's AHL affiliate in Portland. I suspect Kessy could potentially stick in Poryland for the year. Hence the Conditional 5th round Draft Pick in 2015. Should Kess not return to the Dub. Then the Conditional Draft pick could be pulled. Good luck Kess. Your team mates loved you.

I heard Kale Kessy asked to be outright released like something like two weeks ago after his suspension?

Well, not sure about everyone else, I am finding this losing thing to be a real downer. Why can we not score a PP goal? Where can we find a goalie? I was expecting some ups and downs but I have to admit, now I feel like the Tigers can not win a game if their life depended on it. Not sure the right decisions were made for the team. Should Kenny be here? Should we have picked up Ty Rimmer? Not convinced about our goaltending. And would really like to see Theriau back in the line up. We need Theriau on D badly - hope having him back will stop the bleeding. We are now out of playoffs.

In losing depression. When is this madness going to stop?

Can we get Willie Desjardens back?

I heard the same thing about Kessy wanting a release from the team and also heard he is on his way back to Medicine Hat today before he got traded, as for goaltending they are new goalies so they need to get use to the pace Marek just needs to come out hotter he starts off cold a lot it just comes with time and the Tigers now are in the same spot they are every year with needing another bigger forward (i agree with Kessy going suspensions and being a marked man) could you imagine if Doty gets booted from a game or gets injured our forwards (especially that Hart is out too) will get bullied all game we have the smallest forwards in the league and its not benefiting us because we keep getting blown out or grinded out of games all in all i think moving Clouston to GM after a couple of years behind the bench of guys Willie brought and developed with the team he is not that great of a GM, we basically traded Kessy for Pierce which is a potential for a huge loss because Kessy can be such an impact player and Pierce is unproven and now that Theriau is back they cant seriously have a very good potential of losing 3 starting Dman after this year which it looks to be like we are almost in a restructure phase based on the youth through out the forwards, my best guess is Bus and maybe Broadhead are on there way out based on age and points generated. Bus becomes expendable because of Beckers emergence as an amazing point shot artist.
We need another big forward and then you could have a line of Doty Hart and the power forward that you could send out when you are down or want to cause momentum and get the fans into the game not to mention they could easily become the most intimidating line in the WHL with Dotys reputation. I would love a guy like Grayson (Everett) Rigby (Kelowna) Howorko (Swift) or my hope Carroll (Victoria), these are just some of the known impact players around the league but you could easily pick one off for a dman
just my thoughts sorry about the essay haha

Chill out people, it is still early. The team is not playing all that badly, just having some trouble scoring goals. As for goaltending I like Macauley, he was third star in the last game and only gave up 2 tonight.

There was mention that other players want out? I see this as strange. I am really surprised at this knowing a bunch of the guys. Even with losing this is not consistent with what I have be hearing from them.

clouston is clueless. Bring Willie back.

Vancouver stole Kale, what the tigers got in return is laffable. This reflects the respect, encouragement and committment he had for 34, none.
The coach/GM capabilities are starting to shine through as well, none.

Fire management and Coach....We need some size and grit up front along with our skilled forwards...Trading or releasing our bigger wingers lately..just don't make sense...and then bring in more slight/skilled players...They just don't see the bigger picture. You need size and grit to open up the ice..or to go deep into the playoffs.

Good for the team to get rid of that 7-time suspended poison. There is a big difference between "grit and toughness" and simple idiotic, reckless, and cowardly play that costs your team every time. Too bad. Obviously has skills, just needs more control.

Very happy with management that they let him go. He just wasn't getting the message. I hope he figures it out quickly before he racks up the same suspensions in the pros.

As for the season, no problem. Tenders and coaches will figure it out. JD

Seriously...9 games in and thinking of missing playoffs? PP problems are pretty simple, in many instances the first unit is doing too much stationary passing and making it too easy to cover shooting/passing lanes. Koules needs to be closer to the net and not on the half wall, as he has finish but does not create lanes or chances through pressure/movement like Shinkaruk can on the right half wall. If they continue to use this PP setup, then what the PP needs is a right handed shot on the left half wall which will create more chances and movement. My thought would be to have Pearce's passing/experience or Lewington's active skating on the left half wall with Koules and Valk down low (...and net front when they are weak side as there is no pressence there at all most of the time) and Shinkaruk and Busenius are fine in their current spots but need to use each other more.

Tigers are simply falling in the standings to where their talent level equates to. They are not a first or second place team, they are just not that skilled.

I disagree with the "not skilled" statement. I think we are extremely skilled. What we are not is experienced and we are young. The skill out there is awesome, we just need time. I think things will come together. I can not see how someone thinks there is no skill on the ice?!?!?!?! I think Becker, Lewington, Jensen and Staton have the ability to be top Dmen in the WHL. Hunter - no explanation needed - Koules, talented/skilled, Valk - no explanation needed, Cox - same, need I go on? We are lacking EXPERIENCE and that will come.

Anyone know what is up with Hart? I really think having him back would make a big difference!!! He has been out a while.

Inside Scoop: Hart has a Grade 1 MCL tear. He resumed skating today.
